2 Education The Importance & Training of P20/Workforce Tomorrow s Jobs The Longitudinal Role of State Longitudinal Data Data Systems Early Childhood K-12 Postsecondary Workforce Which early childhood programs best prepare students for kindergarten and beyond? How many students complete high school and go on to do college or career-training level work? What is the capacity of the state s postsecondary education and workforce training system in a particular field or area? How many college or career-training program graduates are employed in the state? Is the state preparing students to successfully meet growing industry demand?

3 Education & Training for Tomorrow s Jobs The Role of State Longitudinal Data Systems Providing governors and state leaders with answers: Identify Key Policy Questions: Identify the state s critical policy questions and develop processes to answer them; Create the Right State Structure: Provide the authority and the urgency to securely link data across agencies and programs; Produce Relevant Products: Provide the information stakeholders need, in the format they need it, to improve programs and services.

4 43 States Have Established a Cross-Agency Data Governance Committee or Council States are increasingly recognizing the need to address concerns of turf, trust, technology, and time by establishing governance bodies. Forty states have established both state education agency and cross-agency data governance (up from 36 states in 2011).

Forty states have established both state education agency and cross-agency data governance (up from 36 states in 2011).

9 14 states link state K 12 data systems with early learning, postsecondary education, workforce, social services, and other critical agencies. 43 states link K 12 and postsecondary data systems, up from 38 states in states link postsecondary and workforce data systems, an increase from 11 states in 2011.

10 42 states produce reports using aggregate-level longitudinal data that are available on a state-owned public websites Forty-seven states produce reports about schools, districts, and groups of students using longitudinal data (an increase from 39 states in 2011).
