2 Directions: For each student, place a check on the line representing their ability to perform that aspect of the skill correctly. If they do not perform that aspect of the skill correctly, leave it blank. When individual student assessment is complete, write the total number of checks. Volleyball: 1 Steps with opposite foot from striking arm 2 Understands location of the moment of strike in relation to ball trajectory 3 Contacts ball with the wrist, palm facing the target, while the ball is in mid air 4 Follows through with striking arm Forearm 1 Platform creates a flat surface for striking (wrists up, shoulders forward, elbows straight) 2 Ball is contacted in the mid line of the body 3 Feet are a little wider than shoulder width, knees slightly bent, allowing weight transfer 4 Platform remains at same angle when striking (arms do not swing) Overhead Set 1 Contact is made with the finger pads, not the palms 2 Elbows are pointed out 3 Ball is contacted directly above the forehead in the mid line of the body 4 Technique resembles a trampoline little sound is made at contact, not a slap 5 Follows through with elbows and fingers extended Spike 1 Striking arm is toward the back of the court 2 - A T is created with the striking, and non-striking arm 3 Ball is contacted at the highest possible point (jump, or not) with the palm--hit ball in downward trajectory 4 Ball is struck with an open palm, not caught and thrown, carried, or lifted; follow through 1 Understands timing, sequence, and direction of position rotation. 2 - Values the importance of setting up the best possible hit per possession (uses teammates) 3 Demonstrates proper sportsmanship, etiquette, and respect for equipment 4 - Grasps and displays understanding of proper volleyball rules Basketball: Jump Shot 1 Weight is evenly distributed on both feet--foot of shooting hand slightly ahead(b) 2 Elbow is directly under the ball (E) 3 Eyes and shoulders are square to the target (E) 4 Elbow is straight and wrist is flexed on follow through (F) 1 Ball is pushed and not slapped 2 Ball comes no higher than belly button 3 Ball is pushed in front of player when running 4 Player understands and avoids concepts of traveling and double dribbling ing (bounce and chest) 1 A W is made with the hands on the ball 2 Steps with one foot 3 Finishes with palms out and thumbs down Lay Up 1 Shoots with the hand on the outside of the basket (e.g. right side, uses right hand) 2 Lifts same leg in relation to shooting hand (e.g. right hand, lifts right leg) 3 Uses the backboard 4 Understands use of 2 step rule before a shot. 1 Demonstrates value of team concepts (ball movement, zone defense, etc) 2 Understands court dimensions and landmarks 4 Knows proper scoring procedures and violations of basketball
