1 Simple Set-up for SpeedTouch 580 Multi-user ADSL Gateway. Step 1 - Unpack and connect SpeedTouch 580 Unit to Power, ADSL line and PC. Step 2 - Establish connection between SpeedTouch 580 and your PC using either 2a. Wireless (WLAN) connection or 2b. Wired Ethernet connection or 2c. Wired USB connection. Step 3 - Run set-up wizard on SpeedTouch 580 to configure and establish ADSL internet connection Step 4 Secure your SpeedTouch 580 s WLAN interface to prevent unauthorised use. Step1 - Unpack and connect SpeedTouch 580 Unit. The cables supplied with your SpeedTouch 580 are colour-coded. The power-pack (BLACK) connects to the 15VAC socket next to the push-button power switch. Ethernet (YELLOW marked ports on rear of SpeedTouch 580) is the preferred wired connection to use. The USB connection is available if you do not have a spare ethernet port on your PC. The YELLOW cable is for an Ethernet connection. Connect one end to any of the 4 available ports on the rear of the 580 and the other end to the ethernet port on your PC The BLUE cable is for a USB connection. IMPORTANT: If using the USB cable, first read the USB section in step 2 below. Do NOT connect USB cable at this time! Every telephone device (except the SpeedTouch 580) connected to an ADSL-enabled telephone line must use an in-line filter to prevent the ADSL signal from being corrupted and possibly causing damage to that device. (eg Telephone, Fax or analogue modem). There are 2 basic types of in-line ADSL filter available (not supplied with the SpeedTouch 580) A Type A filter plugs into the wall socket and provides both a filtered socket for a telephone device and a non-filtered DSL socket for connection to your SpeedTouch 580. A Type B filter plugs into the wall socket and provides a single filtered connection for a telephone device only. Accordingly, there are two telephone line cords (GREY) supplied for use with the two filter types: The RJ-11 cable has a clear plastic (RJ-11) plug on both ends. The BT cable has a white (BT) plug on one end and a clear plastic (RJ-11) plug on the other end. Use the RJ-11 cable to connect the DSL socket on the rear of the SpeedTouch 580 to the DSL outlet of your type A in-line filter Use the BT cable to connect the DSL socket on the rear of the SpeedTouch 580 directly to the telephone wall socket. Type B filters are to be used on all other connected telephone devices. Simply plug in-line with each device.

2 Step2 - Establish connection between your Speedtouch 580 and your PC 2a Wireless Connection Ensure your PC s wireless client is correctly installed and enabled. You should have an icon in the System Tray at the bottom-right of the screen. Refer to your PC s user guide for machines with builtin WLAN, or the instructions supplied with your WLAN accessory (eg USB / WLAN adaptor or CardBus WLAN adaptor) Power-on the SpeedTouch 580 and wait a few seconds until the WLAN LED on the front panel stops blinking and is lit solid. Right-click the wireless client icon and select View available wireless networks. Select the SpeedTouch XXXXXX Unsecured Wireless Network and click on Connect. The SpeedTouch XXXXXX above refers to your SpeedTouch 580 s unique default SSID number (Network Name) which is also printed on the sticker attached to the inside back page of the supplied Quick Installation Guide. The DHCP server running in the SpeedTouch 580 will assign an IP address to your PC s WLAN interface. On your PC, open your Internet Browser (eg Windows Internet Explorer) and enter the default address of the SpeedTouch 580 in the Address Bar: The front screen of the SpeedTouch 580 will appear, with the Setup Wizard opening on top. If the Setup Wizard does not appear, your browser has blocked the Pop-Up. Allow the Pop-Up by clicking on the Pop-Up Alert Bar and proceed to Step 3 below to configure the ADSL connection 2b Ethernet Connection With the YELLOW Ethernet cable connected as described above, power-up your SpeedTouch 580 and your PC. The DHCP server running in the SpeedTouch 580 will assign an IP address to the PC s ethernet interface. On your PC, open your Internet Browser (eg Windows Internet Explorer) and enter the default address of the SpeedTouch 580 in the Address Bar: The front screen of the SpeedTouch 580 will appear, with the Setup Wizard opening on top. If the Setup Wizard does not appear, your browser has blocked the Pop-Up. Allow the Pop-Up by clicking on the Pop-Up Alert Bar and proceed to Step 3 below to configure the ADSL connection 2c USB Connection Do NOT connect the USB cable (BLUE) yet! Power-up your SpeedTouch 580 and your PC. Insert the CD-ROM supplied with your SpeedTouch 580 into your PC s CD-ROM drive. When the CD auto-plays, select English as the language. At the main SpeedTouch CD-Browser screen click Quit on the bottom left to close the window. Leaving the CD-ROM in the drive, connect the USB cable between your SpeedTouch 580 and a USB port on the PC.

3 The following screen will appear: Because the required driver is on the CD-ROM, click No, not at this time and then click Next>. On the following screen, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and then click Next>

4 On the following screen select both: Search for the best driver in these locations and Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM ) and then click Next> The Hardware Update Wizard searches the CD-ROM and installs the correct NDIS driver:

5 When completed the Wizard displays the following screen: Click Finish to close The DHCP server running in the SpeedTouch 580 will assign an IP address to your PC s USB interface. On your PC, open your Internet Browser (eg Windows Internet Explorer) and enter the default address of the SpeedTouch 580 in the Address Bar: The front screen of the SpeedTouch 580 will appear, with the Setup Wizard opening on top. If the Setup Wizard does not appear, your browser has blocked the Pop-Up. Allow the Pop-Up by clicking on the Pop-Up Alert Bar and proceed to Step 3 below to configure the ADSL connection

6 Step 3 - Run set-up wizard on SpeedTouch 580 to configure and establish ADSL connection When you have successfully completed the first two steps above, you will be looking at this Set-up wizard, which is running on the SpeedTouch 580: Click Next> On the following screen select Routed PPPoA DHCP NAPT then click Next>

7 On the following screen select 0,100 from the drop-down list and click Next> On the next screen enter the username and password provided by your Internet Service Provider then click Next>

8 The following screen asks for a security user name and password to protect the settings you have made on your SpeedTouch 580. You must enter a user name, but the password is optional. You can make these settings anything you like, but be aware that both the username and password are CASE SENSITIVE. We recommend you note them both down in your Quick Installation Guide for future reference. If forgotten, you will need to clear all settings to their defaults (see section 7.3 of the Full User Guide on the supplied CD- ROM) and start again from the beginning! When done click Next> The following screen displays a confirmation of all the settings entered into the Setup Wizard. Check all settings (using Back< if necessary to correct) and then click Start>

9 Because the SpeedTouch 580 is saving your settings, it will ask for a confirmation of the Security username and password you have entered above: If you would like your PC to remember the Security username and password, tick the Remember my password check-box. Click OK The following screen is then displayed. Click Finish The SpeedTouch 580 saves all settings, does a re-start and connects to your ISP via ADSL, using the stored ISP username and password. The DSL LED is lit solid when this connection is successful. You are now connected to the Internet!

10 Step 4 Secure your SpeedTouch 580 s WLAN interface to prevent unauthorised use This final step is recommended to prevent unauthorised access to your internet connection by unauthorised WLAN users eg: a neighbour who has a WLAN-enabled PC. There are two methods that can be used to achieve this: Method 1: Simply disable the WLAN interface on your SpeedTouch 580. Use this method if you are using a wired connection and do not need the WLAN interface. Browse to the front page of your SpeedTouch 580 using your Web Browser, address: (enter Security user name and password) Click on Wireless under Basic on the menu at the left of the main screen. Un-tick Wireless interface enabled check-box. Click on Apply at the bottom of the screen. IMPORTANT: Click Save All above menu on left to make this setting permanent. Failure to save will mean that the WLAN interface will be re-enabled when your SpeedTouch 580 is next re-started. Method 2: Enable security on the WLAN interface. Use this method if you will be using the WLAN interface. Browse to the front page of your SpeedTouch 580 using your Web Browser, address: (enter Security user name and password) Click on Wireless under Basic on the menu at the left of the main screen. Click on the Security tab Click on the > arrow to the left of Security level 1 WAP Your SpeedTouch 580 s default 64-bit WEP Encryption Key is displayed. (in 10 Hexadecimal characers). This default WEP key is also printed on the sticker attached to the inside back page of the supplied Quick Installation Guide. Click on Apply at the bottom of the screen. As the new security settings are applied immediately, your browser will lose connection to your SpeedTouch 580. It is important that the 580 remains powered on until you re-establish connection and are able to save the new security settings. Leave your Web Browser open. Right-click your wireless client icon (in the bottom right-hand corner of your PC screen) and select View available wireless networks, as in Step 2-a above. Select the SpeedTouch XXXXXX Security Enabled Wireless Network and click on Connect Enter the (HEX) WEP key (case insensitive), confirm and click Connect When connection is re-established, click refresh in your Web Browser. Click Save All above menu on left to make the new security settings permanent. Failure to save will mean that the WLAN interface will revert to Insecure when your SpeedTouch 580 is next re-started. If a higher level of security is desired (security level 2), read the Security instructions in section 5.1 of the Full User Guide supplied on the enclosed CD-ROM, or click on the Help link at the bottom of the Security Set-up page of your SpeedTouch 580 s Web interface.
