2 Seton Hill University Post-Graduation First Destination Survey Introduction The Seton Hill University Class of 2013 includes the following graduates: August 2012, December 2012, and May A total of 426 students were contacted to complete the 2013 Post-Graduation First Destination Survey. Out of the 426 contacted students, 402 students responded. The students were surveyed using Qualtrics, the university s online assessment software. They were surveyed on topics including post-graduation employment, continuing education, and other developmental opportunities. The Seton Hill Career and Professional Development Center determined a 94% resolved rate for the class of The National Job Market for the Class of 2013 Information for the job market for the class of 2013 was obtained from the National Association of Colleges and Employers The Class of 2013 Student Survey Report. The overall job market was looking promising for recent college graduates at the start of Hiring students straight out of college was at an increasing rate since the recession of In fact, the rate was projected to be thirteen percent higher than Furthermore, the unemployment rate for current college graduates in any specific month appeared to be lower than the same month in the previous year. In February 2013, the unemployment rate for recent college graduates began to increase beyond the previous year s ratings. Additionally, the projected thirteen percent increase in recent college graduate hires turned out to only be approximately two percent. In conclusion, what appeared to be a promising job market at the beginning of the year, turned out to be an uphill battle for those seeking employment. College graduates of 2013 are more definite about their immediate plans after graduation than the 2012 graduates. Therefore, both the number of graduates comfortable stating that they are going into the work force or attending graduate or professional school increased marginally. The percentage of senior respondents stating that they were heading right into the work force was 60.6, while those expecting to go straight to graduate or professional school was 23.8.
