NHS Camden CCG Digital Patient Engagement Initiatives
Electronic Prescription Service What is it? EPS is a national initiative across the NHS which enables prescribers (e.g. GPs and practice nurses) to be able to send prescriptions electronically to a dispenser (such as a pharmacy)of the patient s choice. It makes the process of prescribing and dispensing medications more convenient for staff and patients and removes the need for the green prescription forms.
Benefits to Patients You can collect your repeat prescription directly from the pharmacy without visiting your GP You won t have to remember a paper prescription or risk losing it You may spend less time waiting at the pharmacy as they will already have information about your prescription The service is reliable, secure and confidential
How we are doing.. Within Camden, 33 of our 35 GP surgeries are activated to produce electronic prescriptions. For Oct % of all Camden GP prescriptions were sent electronically The range per practice is between 20% up to 89% In the core GP Contract targets have been set for up to 80% of all prescriptions to be sent electronically by April 2017
Meeting the target! Work the CCG is doing to improve Camden CCG is working to support GP practices in reaching their targets and improving the prescription experience for Camden patients by: Offering training to GP surgeries on how to use the IT systems to make best use of EPS Running engagement events with local GPs and pharmacists to talk through common issues Providing monthly data on current achievement Attending London wide events hosted by NHS Digital to learn about best practice and sharing this information locally
Patient Online What is it? Patient Online is a national initiative across the NHS which allows patients registered with a GP in England to Book appointments online Request repeat prescriptions online View detailed information from your GP records online
Benefits to Patients Empower you to take greater control of your health and wellbeing by increasing online access to services Access services at home 24/7, 365 days a year Better experience in contacting your GP surgery not having to call your surgery repeatedly to get through Reduce practice visits check your information online
Benefits for GP Practices Freeing up staff time less calls to reception, reduced DNAs, saved consultations through patients accessing information online Better health outcomes to your patients through supporting patients to be better involved in their healthcare Improved audit trail capabilities
How we are doing All 35 Camden GP surgeries have the functionality enabled to allow patients to use all the Patient Online Services Utilisation amongst these is variable however 15% of Camden patients currently have a Patient Online account but this ranges from 0% to 49% per practice 4146 GP appointments were booked online in September Only 2% of repeat prescriptions were requested online Access to view detailed medical records is much lower
Continued Core GP Contract targets have been set for at least 10% of all patients to have a Patient Online account In London, the Healthy London Partnership has set targets for 20% of patients to have an online account 80% of routine GP appointments to be made available online
Meeting the target! Work the CCG is doing to improve Camden CCG is working to support GP practices in reaching their targets and improving patients experiences of online services by: Offering training to GP surgeries on how to use the IT systems to make best use of Patient Online Running engagement events with local GPs to talk through common issues Providing monthly data on current achievement Attending London wide events hosted by NHS England to learn about best practice and sharing this information locally
Camden Integrated Digital Record What is it? Online Portal linking together health and social care records for all Camden patients CIDR is a local initiative run by NHS Camden CCG using Orion Health technology. CIDR is a read-only (currently) web based portal which enables health and social care professionals in Camden to view information from multiple care providers in one place. CIDR links an individual s separate records, so that their care provider can view the information securely in one place. This means care providers can view the information they need to provide the best possible care.
Benefits Primary aims Higher Quality of Care Improved Safety of Care Improved Experience of Care Secondary aim is efficiency savings Reduces costs through e.g. decreased paperwork/phoning/ faxing(!) and a reduction of duplication of tests.
Information Governance Opt out Consent to view record Role Based Access Control (RBAC) Sensitive Information Coded vs Free Text information
