These suggestions will help you create a space that will bring you pleasure and work with your lifestyle. Use this information as a solid base onto which you can add your own touches. The most important thing to keep in mind is to have fun creating your environment. Feel free to mix and match. 2 fresheye DESIGN, LLC LIVING SPACE CLIENTS RICHARD & AMY PROJECT DETAILS MARCH 1, 20 Richard and Amy are home owners looking to redefine and update their living room. The living room is a 1 x 18 foot space with 9 foot ceilings. The couple indicated they liked a subtle color palette and their tastes reflect a traditional/transitional style. This space is used for entertaining and as a quiet place for the family to relax without television or computers. CONCEPT ONE SUMMARY: traditional style Concept One focuses on your traditional style preference, creating a space that is very soothing using a subtle color palette and a mix of materials for a modern feel. Starting with a beige wall and a muted rug we built a room that allows the special details in traditional interiors to shine. We have combined fabric, wood, glass, metal and porcelain in a way that is cohesive, not detracting from each other, but enhancing, by using just the right balance of these materials strategically positioned in the space. Artwork is very important to a traditional setting. Providing interest and color, I have chosen artwork of a more traditional subject matter in colors that work with your palette. Large scale canvases above the sofa and pair of chairs are as important as a piece of furniture when creating a space that has complete attention to detail. A small framed abstract print in compatible colors above the pedestal table adds mix to the artwork.

4 1 7 8 This design calls for a natural wall as shown below. I suggest a soft oriental area rug placed on top of the neutral carpeting to add dimension and interest to the space. Since the home is located in a private setting window treatments are not required, however, I would recommend natural linen drapery to the floor for this traditional space (see inspiration room images). 1 WALL COLOR FLOORING TREATMENT STEP Add an oriental area rug on top of the existing carpeting to add a layer of color and create depth in the room. full natural drapery panels or no window treatments at all Anchor your living room with a soft area rug placed on top of the existing neutral carpet. This provides another layer to your room, adding color, texture, and defines the seating area. 2This glass and metal coffee table anchors the seating area. Glass is light so not to overtake the center of the space. The metal base adds an unexpected design element to the space. COFFEE TABLE ACCESSORY SUGGESTIONS An orchid in a blue and white Asian pot ties in the Asian porcelain used on the other end of the space. Add a set of candle sticks and some beautiful books.

5 1 Hang a framed piece of art above the pedestal table and add a plant or flowers to complete the look. This traditional sofa in a natural fabric provides a soft, quiet backdrop for the art and accessories in the space. It s design detail creates enough interest on its own. Use your existing pedestal accent table. 7 A pair of canvases hung above the sofa will provide visual impact and add color to the space. I chose something soft to meet the clients preferences and also to not overtake the space. A gold or gold and black frame is appropriate for the traditional formality of the space. 8A chest on the other side of the sofa creates a good mix in the room. Since you have a pedestal table on the opposite side of the sofa it is appropriate to do something other than another table in this area. A pair of matching lamps on either side of the sofa provide ambient lighting. The soft green porcelain works with the rug and artwork. 9 This corner is a perfect spot to set up a small bar. Glassware, a beautiful ice bucket, and silver barware add a luxurious touch to a space. I placed a gilded mirror above the bar. This brings light reflection into the room and the finish works well with the coffee table and traditional style. Drape a soft throw blanket over the arm of the sofa and add a mix of luxurious pillows for color, pattern and texture.

6 1 12 A pair of chairs in the same fabric as the sofa complete the main seating area around the coffee table. I chose an arm that is similar to the arm of the sofa, not a rolled arm. This floor lamp will provide illumination for the chair seating and that corner. This pair of display cases flank the window adding height to the space. The blue and white porcelain adds a crisp, traditional element to the room. Add beautiful books and some simple sculptural elements that are complimentary, not distracting, as shown to the right. 1 An Use your existing library table in front of the large window. Add books, more Asian porcelain, and a white orchid. accent table between the chairs 18 I chose a sculptural lamp to finish the tablescape. 1 A large canvas or a grouping of artwork above the pair of chairs will complete the wall. A gold or gold and black frame is appropriate for the traditional formality of the space. 1 This spooled accent chair positioned by the library table adds a bit of pattern and interest while providing additional seating.

CONCEPT TWO SUMMARY: transitional style Concept Two focuses on your transitional style preference, creating a space that bridges traditional and contemporary styles resulting in a space that is visually interesting, mixing styles and materials. A transitional space must be well thought out and designed so that all the elements work together to create a harmonic environment, not chaos. The color palette is again subtle with splashes of color to keep the space fresh. Starting with a beige wall and a muted rug we built a room that is comfortable and relaxed. We have combined fabric, wood, glass, and metal in a way that is cohesive, not detracting from each other, but enhancing, by using just the right balance of these materials strategically positioned in the space. The art work is very important as it provides interest and color. I have chosen more contemporary artwork in colors that work with your palette. Large scale canvases above the sofas add interest and keep the walls uncluttered. A small framed abstract print above the round table and another art piece next to the large window complete those areas.

The metal base adds an interesting design element to the space.

10 2 A matching pair of lamps that pick up an accent color, a framed abstract art piece and small green plant complete this corner. 9 overtaking This large canvas above the sofa adds soft color to the space without the room. This metal and glass table breaks away from the other wood pieces to create an interesting material mix. A pair of matching sofas face each other creating a symmetry in the space. The neutral fabric does not overwhelm the room and the style leans more to the modern. I chose an open wood end table in a very transitional style to anchor this end of the sofa. Accessorize with stacked books on the shelf, a lamp, an interesting small dish or framed photograph. A more abstract painting above the other sofa provides visual mix and works with our transitional style. 7 This contemporary end table adds alot of interest to the space. I added a small sculpture and fresh flowers. The sculptural base of this floor lamp adds a beautiful design element while maintaining simplicity. 8 Use a mix of pillows and a luxurious throw to add color and interest to the sofas. I chose accessories that pulled in the color of the chairs, the artwork and lamps.

11 2 A pair of chairs covered in a soft color complete the main seating area around the coffee table. I chose a style that is similar to the sofa. Place matching pillows in a geometric pattern on each chair. I chose a large fig tree with big leaves for drama. Great in the corner, bringing some of the nature outside into the space. Select a modern, large container. The style and graphite color of the container below compliments the furniture and the rug. 12 This standing floor lamp provides task lighting. 1 Add a pop of color to the wall at the end of the room. I like this abstract subject matter, it is bold and can hold its own in the room even though it is smaller in scale. 1 The sculptural base of this lamp combines art and lighting and stands out as a focal point at the end of the space. 1 A console table finishes the space behind the pair of chairs. It provides a backdrop of ambient light in the evening from the beautiful lamp and candles. Use your existing display shelf for objects of art, books, woven materials. This piece adds an element of height to the space.
