3 Upgrades a Must All providers must upgrade to a 2014 certified EHR technology to attest for Meaningful Use (MU) next year This requirement applies regardless of your stage of MU 3

4 Getting Answers Can be a Struggle Be Persistent 4

5 The Numbers Tell The Story 1693 complete EHRs are certified to the 2011 standard but only 11 are certified to the 2014 standard. Only 2 of 16 EHR vendors surveyed by the HPREC in the Hawaii market are 2014 certified. 5

7 What is Your Vendor s 2014 Most vendor s have not provided specific rollout dates Rollout Schedule? The majority of vendor s are not yet 2014 certified We have concerns that the rollout schedules will leave very little time for practices to prepare for MU attestation We anticipate few EPs will be able to attest first quarter of

8 Don t Get Lost in The Shuffle Be Persistent Get an upgrade commitment date for your practice. Talk to Your Vendor What is the rollout plan? What are the procedures to get in queue for the upgrade? 8

9 Upgrades to Consider Obtain hardware software specifications Windows server and workstation operating systems may need upgrading Patient portal may need additional hardware New devices may need to be purchased, such as printers, and scanners 9

10 Stage 2 Hurdles Patient Access and Engagement Transfer of Care Public Health Reporting Results Integration 10

11 Patient Access and Engagement Stage 1 More than 50 percent of all unique patients seen by the EP during the EHR reporting period are provided timely online access to their health information. More than 5 percent of all unique patients seen by the EP during the EHR reporting period view, download, or transmit to a third party their health information. A secure message was sent using the electronic messaging function of CEHRT by more than 5 percent of unique patients seen by the EP during the EHR reporting period. 11

12 Patient Portal Vendor Questions: What will be the solution for a patient portal with the 2014 upgrade? How much time and effort will my staff need to devote to portal implementation and on going support? When will the 2014 patient portal be available? What type of support will my vendor offer to our practice and our patients? 12

13 Transfer of Care The EP who transitions or refers their patient to another setting of care or provider of care provides an electronic summary of care record for more than 10 percent of such transitions and referrals. Conducts one or more successful electronic exchanges of a summary of care document with a recipient who has EHR technology that was developed designed by a different EHR technology developer than the sender's.. 13

14 Electronic Summary of Care Vendor Questions: What are the existing mechanisms in place for electronic exchange of summary of care document? How will the process change from the existing mechanism? What mechanism will be in place to exchange data with other vendors? 14

15 Public Health Reporting Successful ongoing submission of electronic immunization data from CEHRT to the Hawaii immunization registry (HIR). Successful ongoing submission of cancer case information from CEHRT to a public health central cancer registry for the entire EHR reporting period. Successful ongoing submission of specific case information from CEHRT to a specialized registry for the entire EHR reporting period. 15

19 Results Integration More than 55 percent of all clinical lab tests results ordered by the EP during the EHR reporting period whose results are either in a positive/negative or numerical format are incorporated in Certified EHR Technology as structured data. More than 10 percent of all tests whose result is one or more images ordered by the EP during the EHR reporting period are accessible through CEHRT. 19
