2 What is the PSAT/NMSQT? Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) A comprehensive assessment program that measures college readiness and provides valuable tools to help students start planning for the future Administered by high schools annually in October, the PSAT/NMSQT Measures skills in critical reading, mathematics and writing Helps put students on the path to college
3 Materials Testing department has ordered for district, please inventory upon receipt verify Oct 14 date Labels will arrive shortly, late additions will have to be hand-gridded If you need to increase order, me ASAP NO OVERAGE!! Be careful to only order what s needed
4 Reminders Testing plan is due to by Oct. 2 Materials need to ship back to College Board by Oct 15 - schedule a UPS pick-up or drop off at UPS location Keep ALL shipping documentation
5 Reminders There is no make up Oct 14 is only day! If immediate family member is testing, do not handle materials you are still responsible for coordinating the test PSAT Math scores (47 or higher) can substitute for the Algebra I EOC
6 PSAT Test Date Wednesday, October 14, 2015 ALL 10 th and 11 th grade students
7 Pre-Administration Page 8 The week before the test, schools have the option to have students fill in boxes 1-20 & 24 on their answer sheets under supervision. You can do this through English or other class. Students do not fill out their home address. Remove only answer sheets and flyers listing religion and college major codes, do not open test books until test day.
8 Pre-Administration minutes Post 6 digit code, address and optional codes. Distribute flyer of religion and college major codes and answer sheet to each student. Follow the script in green boxes (pages 8&9 in the Supervisor s Manual) to instruct students to fill in personal information in boxes 1-20&24. Organize answer sheets to ensure students receive their own on test day.
9 Testing Time Total test: 2 hours and 45 minutes Administrative Duties& Breaks: minutes CANNOT break for lunch and then resume testing
10 NO LATE START! Test must begin by 9:00 AM & Conclude by 12:00 Noon CANNOT break for lunch and then resume testing
11 Redesigned PSAT/NMSQT Order and length of tests have changed Math is divided into two parts: Math Test Calculator Math Test No Calculator
12 Administration Basics Reading Test: 60 minutes No dictionary allowed 5 minute break Writing and Language Test: 35 minutes Math Test No Calculator: 25 minutes 5 minute break Math Test Calculator: 45 minutes Collecting materials and dismissing students: 5 minutes Paper and pencil test

14 Before the Test Know your school s six digit High School Code You will need to post this code where the students can see it Schedule the test All students must test at the same time in the morning. You will not be able to take a lunch break and resume testing. Allow three hours for testing and related activities.
15 Before the Test Plan for Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) The College Board must approve all accommodations prior to testing with the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT or AP. All students requesting accommodations must submit a request to SSD. Visit for detailed information about the eligibility process. Submit requests for accommodations in the spring, as requests for accommodations must be received by August 28 to ensure a decision prior to the test date. Approved nonstandard test formats can be ordered with standard formats at
16 Before the Test Select and Train Staff Select Test Administrators to read instructions to students and monitor test rooms on test day. Adult-to-student ratio in any test room may not exceed 34:1. All staff in these roles may not be a member of the household or immediate family of a student testing that day, even in another school. Ensure that staff review the Supervisor s Manual prior to test day. Notify student and parents about PSAT/NMSQT and the benefits
17 Before the Test Distribute materials: To Students: The Student Guide with full practice test and test-taking tips To Staff: Copies of The Supervisor s Manual The Associate Supervisor/Proctor Checklist found in the Educator Guide
18 Before the Test Visit collegeboard.org/testright. Obtain helpful advice, forms and information to help you manage test day. Check your materials. Make sure you ve received the correct number of tests and verify that all answer sheets are for the correct test date. Store the tests securely. Prevent any student from gaining an unfair advantage.
19 Before the Test Choose test rooms. Administer tests in areas with adequate lighting, good writing surfaces, a visible clock, and away from noise and distraction Maintain distance of 4 feet between students (center of desk to center of desk). All students must face the same direction. No round tables
20 Use a seating chart and keep on campus for at least six months Back of manual
21 Before the Test Create a plan for distributing: Calculators for the Math Test Calculator (permissible calculators page 24 of manual) Pencils 2 per student
22 Before the Test Define student ID (local ID). Define optional codes, if desired. Complete the pre-administration option, if desired (Due to time constraints, pre-administration option is recommended). Students can complete Page 1-5 and page 8 of answer sheets Use manual provided with label shipment

24 On Test Day Home Schooled Students If you have any students who are Home-Schooled, they must use a specific code
25 On Test Day Irregularities Know what students should bring. Know testing protocol. Turn off classroom bells, and remove visual aids from testing rooms. Actively monitor test rooms, halls and restrooms to ensure policies are being followed. Know what materials are allowed and prohibited while students are testing. Keep control of test materials before and after student use.
26 On Test Day Administering the Test Read bold directions in the boxes aloud to students Testing Script begins on page 16 Do not deviate form the directions in the manual Do not answer questions that have to do with content Adhere to the time limits for each section
27 On Test Day Irregularities Review pages of Supervisor Manual Submit the Supervisor s Irregularity Report as instructed on the Irregularity Chart Immediately inform the PSAT/NMSQT if an irregularity occurs after answer sheets have been returned.
28 28 This form is filled out to report irregularities (if needed) and submitted with the shipment of answer sheets.
29 After the Test Collect and count answer sheets. Collect answer sheets from each student individually. Do not have them passed to you. Make sure students do not put their answer sheets inside the test books. Count answer sheets, and verify that you have one for each student. Check student gridding Collect and count test books. After accounting for the answer sheets, collect the test books from students individually in the same order in which you distributed them. Count used test books and verify that you have one for each student.
30 After the Test Complete the Supervisor s Irregularity Report, if applicable. (See guidelines and report in Supervisor s Manual.) Protect test materials after the test.. When all test materials have been accounted for, place them where they will not be accessible to the students. Keep test books (used & unused) in secure storage until score reports arrive in December for each student. Destroy all unused answer documents. Do not return to College Board
31 After the Test Return Materials for Scoring. Complete the Supervisor s Report Form. (Blue) Fill in all forms using a #2 pencil, NO INK! Be sure to sign form to certify test administered properly Scores will not be released unless Supervisor s Reports are completed, signed and returned with the answer sheets
32 After the Test Return Materials for Scoring. Return materials no later than the day after the administration. (October 15) Follow return instructions in the Supervisor s Manual. Use the original white shipping box provided. Arrange for package pickup with courier (usually UPS) or drop of at UPS location.

35 After the Test Complete the Online Remittance Report. Log on to collegeboard.org/school to generate your school s remittance report. Even if your district or state is paying for a grade, you should still fill this out and return it with your answer sheets.
