3 Monitor & Detect We detect liquid hydrocarbons hidden in the soil while they are still below ground and not visible to casual inspection Prevent long term damage to underground environment We detect roof leaks and surface spills of liquid hydrocarbons at their onset Early detection to prevent explosion and fire We monitor storm water accumulations and run-off to prevent accidental discharge of oily waste Prevent pollution of surface waters

4 1. Early detection above ground Fast Fuel Sensor fitted within the rain water gully. Sensor ignores rain water if there is no floating fuel Catastrophic leak and Overfills quickly detected

8 5. Detection of below ground pipes Sensing cables can be installed in slotted PVC conduit and buried alongside a pipeline. Leaks are detected while still very small and the system can report the leak location to an accuracy of +/- 1 meter.

10 6. Detection below fuel storage tanks Sensing cable installed under the tank base using slotted PVC conduit. Detects leaks from corroded floor plates or drain pipes.

11 6. Alternate method: tank bottom monitoring Used when the cost of horizontal drilling on existing tanks is sometimes too expensive e or too risky. Solution: Sensing cable buried in a trench around the tank perimeter. Or clipped around the tank bottom flange. Benefits: the tanks will be monitored 24h a day, 7 days a week all the leaks reaching the perimeter are detected.

12 Sensing cables Sensing Cable - has the ability to detect and locate liquid hydrocarbons at any point along its length from a few meter to many km s, with the same degree of sensitivity.

13 TT FFS - Fast Fuel Sensor Detects presence of hydrocarbon based fuels in seconds. Ignores water but will detect fuel floating on water. Reliable and Durable Can be easily tested, reset and re-used in most cases.

14 Monitoring Options Many instrumentation options: Hard wired to control room via Sensor Interface Modules TT-TAR for 4-20 ma status signal. TT-FLASHER is a low cost and simple solution for facilities willing to rely on walk-around inspection. LEDs flash to indicate leak Mesh Radios for wireless connection to Control room All systems approved for hazardous areas.

15 Summary Underground d leaks need to be detected d whilst the leak is small to prevent environmental damage TT5000 sensing cable is the solution for: Buried pipelines Tank bottoms (perimeter or whole floor plate) Above ground pipe can also be monitored in sensitive areas using TT5000-HUV (outdoor version) Tank overfills, pump leaks, valve leaks and similar surface spills in a predictable location --- use TT-FFS fast acting point probes Storm water runoff needs to be monitored to avoid discharge of hydrocarbons into surface water - Use TT-FFS to detect fuel floating on water with fast enough response to close drain valves.
