Give two examples of documents you might need to take to an interview. Explain why each document might be important for an interviewer to see. Example 1 is: OCR Entry Level Certificate in ICT.. The interviewer might need to see this because: he will have to check I do have the certificate and qualify for the course.. Example 2 is: my benefits forms.. The interviewer might need to see this because: these will prove I can have help with course fees.. What could happen if you failed to organise the documents needed for an interview? I might forget to take them with me and then wouldn t get accepted on to the course. I`d have to wait another year.... Explain how you confirmed your attendance at the interview. I replied by as I was told to in there In the table below describe the method you used to record the arrangements for the interview and explain why this was appropriate for you. The method I used was: I put the details up on the board in the kitchen at home This was appropriate for me because: that way my Mum would see it and remind me just in case I forgot 6

Task 3 Assessment Criteria: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 Use the table below to record key information on the organisation (employer, college or training provider) you are applying to. Identify the source of each piece of key information. The organisation is Hugh Baird College Key information The success rate on this type of course. Source of the information College library, posters I saw when I went for interview and the website Website addresses must be quoted Key information The facilities available for students. Source of the information I visited student services when I went for my interview also looked at posters around the campus and on the website ( Key information The dates of the different college terms.. Source of the information I asked student services when I went for my interview and they gave me a diary with all the dates in it. What might you have to consider when selecting and using different sources of information? I need to make sure the information is what I need and in a format I can easily get to. I need to make sure its from a good source i.e. the college website so I know its true.. 7

Select the appropriate table for your chosen job role or programme of learning. Complete the appropriate table with details of the job role or programme of learning you are applying for. EITHER Job role is: Description of my role and responsibilities I will be employed (circle the most appropriate) Part time Full time Seasonal/Temporary Permanent Voluntary Paid The days and hours of my work The terms and conditions of my employment Dress code or uniform It is important I know about these details because. 8

OR Programme of learning is: BTEC Introductory Diploma in I.T. at Work Describe the structure of the course Days and hours of my attendance Mode of delivery of my course Its made up of 8 units. Three core units, two personal skills units and three additional units. Full time over 35 weeks At college in class room sessions Method of assessment of my course Progression route Course work and a project set by the examination board Level 2 in ICT or BTEC First Diploma for IT Practitioner. It is important I know about these details because I need to know what is expected of me and that I have sufficient time to attend the course. Also that I can move in to other areas of IT if I like this course... 9

Tutors should refer to the glossary on OCR s website to ensure that the responses are correct for each of these areas. Candidates are often confused by the differences in types of skills and attributes. Complete the table below with a description of two skills, two personal attributes and one example of previous experience you can offer for the chosen job role or programme of learning. A sector specific skill I have to offer is: Be able to operate a computer This skill is useful because: I will have to use computers everyday as part of the course and different software A transferable skill I have to offer is: I m good at communicating in writing This skill is useful because: I will have to complete written course work and a project. The first personal attribute I have to offer is: I am patient and don t end up shouting at the computer This personal attribute is important because: I will be learning about new things and will sometimes be a bit slower than usual. The second personal attribute I have to offer is: I am thorough with things I do This personal attribute is important because: I ll have to make sure I get my source work and project right. So will need to check carefully. The previous experience I have to offer is: I have completed the OCR Entry Certificate in ICT This is useful because: I needed it to get on the course 10

Task 4 Assessment Criteria: 2.4, 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 These must relate to the job / programme the candidate is being interviewed for. Complete the table below by writing one likely interviewer question for each of the five topics listed and include your possible answer to the question. At least two answers must consist of two sentences or more. Interviewer question Topic 1. To check on the relevance of my qualifications The question is Tell me what course work you did for the OCR Entry Level Certificate?. My possible answer is I had to produce copies of making changes to word documents and spreadsheets. I had to write up answers to questions about safe use of equipment. Topic 2. To explore the suitability of my skills/personal attributes The question is Describe one personal attribute you have that will help you with this course? I am very patient when trying out new things. So if I get it wrong the first go I don t get upset or stressed. Topic 3. To identify my career aims The question is what do you want to do once you ve completed the course?. Topic 4. To confirm my availability (hours of work, attendance, length of course) The question is Do you have a part time job and will this affect your attendance?. I think I d like to do another course on how to programme computers. If not I can get work in an office and be a technician.. I work in the Blues Bar at a weekend and have done for a couple of years. It shouldn t stop me completing homework or my project... 11

Interviewer question Topic 5. To find out why I am interested in the job or programme of learning The question is why did you choose this course?. My possible answer is I really like computers and how they work. I m hoping the course will help me improve and get a job. 12

Identify two appropriate questions you could ask the interviewer about the job or programme of learning. Question 1 How long will the project take to complete?. It is important I ask this because I need to understand the commitment I am making... Question 2 What is covered in the additional units on Digital Devices?... It is important I ask this because I may need to buy some more equipment to use at home.. Identify two appropriate questions you could ask the interviewer about the organisation. Question 1 Will the college help me with the cost of materials and equipment?... It is important I ask this because if I have to pay for stuff myself I will need to start saving from my part time wages.. Question 2 Will the college help with a work placement? It is important I ask this because I d like to see how things happen with computers in offices to help with future jobs. 13

Describe two ways to make a positive first impression at an interview. First impression 1 By having my certificates ready in a folder. First impression 2 By being clean, tidy and well presented.... Describe two ways to make a confident introduction at an interview. Confident introduction 1 By walking in, saying Hi and offering to shake hands.. Confident introduction 2 By waiting to be asked to take a seat.... Identify two consequences of making an inappropriate introduction at an interview. Consequence 1. The interviewer may think I m rude and lose interest in what I m saying. Consequence 2. The interviewer could cut the interview short and I won t get a chance to cover all my questions. 14

Task 5 The interview may be simulated. Assessment Criteria: 3.1, 3.2 The witness only needs to indicate Yes/No. Comments are not expected unless NO has been indicated. Witness statement for interview (to be completed by a teacher/tutor or workplace supervisor) The interview was for (please specify the exact job role or programme of learning): A place on the BTEC Introductory Diploma in I.T. at Work Did the candidate create a positive first impression through consideration of the following paid attention to personal hygiene dressed appropriately given the interview context demonstrated appropriate body language switched off electronic equipment (e.g. mobile, MP3) Did the candidate make an appropriate introduction in the context of this interview? Did the candidate respond to at least four questions demonstrating they could listen carefully speak clearly to be heard provide appropriate and extended responses seek clarification of interview questions Did the candidate ask appropriate questions related to the job role or programme of learning? Yes/No Yes/No Yes/No Yes/No If you have indicated NO to any of the above you may wish to comment. Signature of witness: Damon Hirst Position within organisation: Hugh Baird College Date: 12/9/2011 If this date is not the same as the date in Task 2. the assessor should annotate with an explanation. 15

Task 6 Assessment Criteria: 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 Complete the table below giving two examples of things that went well during the interview. What went well during the interview? 1. I was able to answer all the questions from the interviewer 2. I got to ask my questions which helped in making my decision Why did it go well? I was well prepared and had thought about what could be asked. I was well prepared and listened carefully to what I was told.. Complete the table below giving two examples of improvements you could make for future interviews. What did not go well during the interview? 1. The start of the interview was not very good. 2. I forgot to ask at the end about how long before I heard if I was accepted. Why not? I arrived very early and got nervous waiting so I tried too hard to be positive and came across as over confident I had all the questions in my head and was so pleased with the course that I forgot I could improve for the future by: 1. Try to relax more while waiting. If I m very early I could find a café rather than sit round in the reception 2. Make a note in a jotter of the questions I want to ask and check before I leave that I have covered them 16

After the interview you have to decide if you still want the job or to attend the programme of learning. Your decision may be because of something that was said or happened during the interview. Complete the following to explain your decision. Do you still want the job or to attend the programme of learning? YES / NO (circle as appropriate) What was said or happened that influenced your decision? The interviewer gave me lots of information about the course and was very helpful about equipment. He told me the timescales for the project and I think he ll be an ace tutor. Identify one example of a training or development activity that might help your progression in the job role or programme of learning. The training or development activity I have identified is: I need to improve my team working as I m used to working on my own in most of my jobs so far..... This would help me progress because: If I move on to be an IT technician I will need to work with other people and to help others out who are not so used to
