1 Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation Installation Instructions General Description Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation is part of a thermally efficient and tested exterior wall system. Tested systems include both CMU and steel stud back-up with exterior cladding varying from brick masonry, to stucco and metal panels. The systems have been tested according to NFPA 285 and are approved for exterior walls of any height. (See specific assemblies available from Firestone Building Products). The complete system includes alternate transition membranes to allow design flexibility and insure system compatibility with different roof membranes. Storage Recommendations Store Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation in a dry, elevated location at least 4 inches above the floor, ground, or standing water. If possible, store inside. Protect all insulation materials from moisture and direct sunlight during storage. Store intact pallets of Firestone Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation in the UV resistant polyethylene bag that they are shipped in. If stored outside, provide additional protection from weather such as breathable, waterproof, light colored tarps. Do not store in standing water. If wet, allow insulation to thoroughly air dry prior to installation. Insulation should be stored in a supported, horizontal position. Comply with all applicable codes and ordinances regarding the storage of flammable materials. Post Installation Exposure: Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation should not be exposed for more than 60 days without adequate protection from UV. Installation Preparation All workers must familiarize themselves with and observe all OSHA safety and construction guidelines and regulations during the installation of Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation. All workers must fully familiarize themselves with the installation instructions of Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation prior to starting any installation work. The design and detailing of the support structure and the location of air barrier, vapor retarder and water barrier are the responsibility of the project architect. Review adjacent air barrier components for compatibility, and proper transition membrane materials and detailing. For projects with masonry back-up walls, verify that: Masonry back-up walls are fully cured, structurally sound, and free of grease, dust, dirt, or flaking coatings. Masonry back-up wall moisture content is within the limits allowed by the adhesive manufacturer. Back-up walls are erected straight, plumb and square to within project specifications or 1/4 in 8, whichever is more restrictive. All masonry joints are struck flush, with no voids or protrusions extending from the face of the block. For projects with steel stud back-up walls, verify that:

2 The exterior steel stud framing is complete at the locations to receive the Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation. All exterior steel stud members have been installed true and plumb and are free of warps, dents, protruding fasteners or are otherwise damaged. All steel stud surfaces are smooth, clean, and free of irregularities that may affect the placement of the Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation. All steel studs are free of grease, dust, dirt, or debris. Application Install Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation with the long edge horizontal and either side to the exterior. Install in as large of pieces as possible to minimize joints. Abut wall insulation tightly together both horizontally and vertically, and at all openings. Do not install wet Enverge CI Foil. If insulation becomes wet, completely air dry before installation and sealing. For projects with masonry back-up walls use either adhesive or mechanical fastener installation: Apply a polyurethane construction adhesive such as Liquid Nails LN LN950 (or insulation manufacturer s approved equal) in a ¼ wide bead per the adhesive manufacturer s printed installation instructions. Mechanically brace or fasten the Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation in place until adhesive has set. Remove excess wet adhesive. Mechanical fastener installation: Fasten Firestone Enverge CI Glass Exterior Wall Insulation to masonry back up with unified plastic washer/fastener as selected from the fasteners listed in the table for Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation. Fasteners must be driven snug and flush to insulation surface. Do not overdrive screws or break the surface with the washers. Fasten at 12 o.c. on each edge and at 16 o.c. in the field in a pattern similar to the fastener pattern shown for stud framing as shown in (Figure 1). Use unified washer/fasteners to fasten adjacent boards at end joints, and a maximum of three boards at T intersections. All boards to be fastened securely and abutted tightly. Stagger board joints in successive courses a minimum of 16 horizontally. For projects with steel stud back-up walls: Center all end joints over the centerline of stud flanges. Fasten Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation to steel studs with a minimum 2-inch diameter plastic washer and corrosion resistant steel screw as selected from the fasteners listed in the table for Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation. Screws must be driven snug and flush to insulation surface. Do not overdrive screws or break the surface with the washers. Fasten at 12 o.c. on each edge where backed by framing and at 16 o.c. in the field. (Figure 1). Screws and washers may be used to fasten adjacent boards at end joints, and a maximum of three boards at T intersections. All boards to be fastened securely and abutted tightly. Stagger board joints in successive courses a minimum of one stud space.

3 For Installations where Enverge CI Foil will be part of the Air Barrier System Use 4 wide tape as selected from the Acceptable Accessories for Firestone Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation table to seal all board-to-board joints (Figure 1). o Follow sequential steps to apply tape in a ship lap fashion to properly seal the air barrier and shed moisture Step 1 Install horizontal tape to seal bottom edge of insulation to adjacent material Step 2 Install vertical tape over vertical board joints Step 3 Install horizontal row of tap at horizontal board joint Continue with this sequence up face of installation. Install 6 wide tape as selected from the Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation table to seal: o all end joints o all through wall penetrations such as windows, doors or pipe penetrations (Figures 2 and 3). Step 1 Install horizontal tape at window sill with turned up ends to lap under jamb tape Step 2 Install vertical tape over window jambs and lap over turned up ends at jambs Step 3 Install horizontal tape over jambs Install window and tape over nailing flange in similar sequence without taping over sill flange. Using the 6 tape, seal all joints between Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation and adjacent air barrier materials to provide continuity of the building s air barrier system. For Installations where Enverge CI Foil will be part of the Vapor Retarder System Use 4 wide tape as selected from the Acceptable Accessories for Firestone Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation table to seal all board-to-board joints. (Figure 1). o Follow steps for tape installation as outlined for an air barrier installation Install 6 wide tape as selected from the Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation table to seal: o all end joints o all through wall penetrations such as windows, doors or pipe penetrations. (Figures 2 and 3). Follow steps as outlined for an air barrier installation Using the 6 tape, seal all joints between Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation and adjacent vapor retarder materials to provide continuity of the building s vapor retarder system. For Water Resistive Barrier Installations Use 4 wide tape as selected from the table for Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation, to seal all board-to-board joints (Figure 1). o Follow steps for tape installation as outlined for an air barrier installation above all field fastener heads Install 6 wide tape as selected from the table for Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation, to seal the following areas: all end joints

4 all through wall penetrations such as window and door jambs, or pipe penetrations (Figures 2 and 3). o Follow steps for tape installation as outlined for an air barrier installation above Install Enverge Thru-wall flashing as selected from the Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation table and as compatible with adjacent air barrier materials at the base of all walls, and above all penetrations in the water barrier such as windows, doors, or duct penetrations. Install all flashing tape in a shiplap configuration to properly shed water that may come in contact with the exterior surface of the Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation. Lap all joints in the flashing tape a minimum 2. All veneer anchor penetrations, such as brick ties and metal panel fasteners must be fastened through the Firestone CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation to the back-up wall structure. Firestone Enverge CI Foil Exterior Wall Insulation is not structural and will not resist exterior cladding loads. All veneer anchor penetrations must be sealed with Firestone Enverge Sealer see Acceptable Accessories for Enverge CI Exterior Wall Insulation. Repairs Repair all small damage to the exterior foil surface with the aluminum foil tape, lapping tape a minimum of 2 on to sound foil coating in each direction. Repair damage to the foam core by replacing the damaged area. Replacement pieces must span at least one stud space horizontally and completely encompass the damaged area vertically and be properly fastened to the back-up with adhesive or screw fasteners and plate washers as appropriate. Tape all joints in the repaired area according to installation instructions above.
