2 Introduction!"#$&'()*$+",,-",&.#$/&001+&-&2$$ The Sunday Schoolhouse series is a flexible Sunday School curriculum focusing on the priority of God s Word. The emphasis in the series is on teaching Bible stories, with multiple presentations of the story built into each lesson. The one room schoolhouse approach allows for children of varying ages and grade levels to meet together. The Sunday Schoolhouse curriculum is designed with the particular needs of small churches, mission congregations, and house churches in mind. /-)..0,,2$3#.,&0+#$4,,5$$ This book contains the core materials for leading a Sunday School class. Permission is granted to reproduce pages for local individual or congregational use. In keeping with the one room audience, the resources provided are suited to various age levels. In addition to the theme word for the lesson, three written versions of each story are provided. One is a traditional Bible story version of the Scripture text. The second is a simplified Bible rhyme version, prepared for use with younger children as simple song lyrics or to aid in remembering the basics of the story. The third is a Bible drama version of the story, allowing older children to read in parts or providing the teacher of younger students with a puppet script. A weekly theme word and simple Law and Gospel questions are meant to spark discussion. Teachers are encouraged to add activities and crafts to the foundation of the lesson. Refer to the Leader s Manual for ideas on additional activities and information on the overall program. )26-#$/-)..$7,02)8$ The following is a suggested class format, to be used for classes of all ages. Teachers are free to select the elements that work best for their own class setting. Green Year - Unit C1 9:$;#-+,2#$ Pass out name tags and record attendance on a classroom chart. Begin with a simple icebreaker game, prayer, or song. <:$41=-#$>#..,'$ Read the day s Bible Story or the Bible Rhyme or use both! Remember, the main purpose of Sunday School is to put children in contact with Bible stories.?:$@)'(,&8.$a$;,05."##8.$ Use the reproducible sheets from this book. The coloring page works well for younger children, the worksheet for older children. 3 Lesson 2: Noah and the Ark Genesis 6-7!! "#$!&'(! )*+!,-./0-#!! 1-2$3#(! 45-67$.358!!,9-0-(!,5:.!!! ;$<*-!1358!! As more and more people filled the earth, they forgot about God, and their hearts turned evil. Looking down, the Lord saw this and felt very, very sad. I m sorry I made human beings, he said. I will wipe them from the face of the earth, along with everything I have made. But God chose one man from among all the others. His name was Noah, and he was favored by God. One day, God said to Noah, Build an ark out of gopher wood. Give it three decks, and a roof. Find two animals of every kind a male and female of each. Make sure the ark is large enough to house all of them, as well as your own family. Be sure to gather plenty of food, too. Find some of each kind that grows, and store it up. For a huge flood is coming that will destroy the earth. But I will make a covenant with you, and will keep you safe. Even though the weather was dry, Noah trusted God. He built the giant boat and did everything God asked. When the large boat was finished, God said to Noah, In seven days, the rain will start. Go now, and bring in all the animals. It s time for you to get into the Ark. Once again, Noah obeyed God. He gathered the pairs of animals and ushered them into the ark. Then he brought his wife aboard, as well as their three sons and families, and God shut the door behind them. Soon, the rain began. After it started, it did not stop. For forty days and forty nights, it poured. Before long, water covered the face of the earth. Yet the ark stayed afloat. Through the days of rain and flood, God kept Noah and his family safe on the Ark, along with the animals that were with them.,5:.! =!<-*$->$#?!@9/!A3+!./8.!!"#$&'()&*+,"+#-+.(/0&#-#'12 *3*-&$"(4$/&5#)-6&*3*-'#/-/-47*&8! ;$<*-!B980-! God saw that people everywhere Had turned from him and did not care. But Noah was a faithful man; The only one in all the land. So God told Noah, Build a boat, And seal it well, so it will float. Collect some food, and also find Two animals of every kind. Well, Noah did what God had said, And feeling raindrops on his head, He brought those animals on board, To keep them safe while waters poured! C$.-#$#?!3!A3+D.!E35+! 45/8-5! What part of this story bothers you? Where do you hear a command from God? How does this story help you to trust in God? Where do you hear a promise from God? Lord God, thank you for watching over us and keeping us safe. Help us to trust you at all times, like Noah did. In Jesus name we pray. Amen. 5 Drama 2: Noah and the Ark Genesis 6-7 Dramatized Bible Story Character Parts: Narrators-4, God, Noah, Neighbors #1, #2, #3, and #4 Narrator 1: It was the worst of times. The people had forgotten God and had turned to their own wicked ways. All day long, they thought about doing terrible things. God: Oh, what a shame. I had such hopes for my people. Yet everything they do is evil! I wish I had never made them. I ll erase everything and start all over. Noah: Dear God, thank you for this beautiful, sunny day. I do love sunny days! God: Ah, there s old Noah. I like him. He is probably the only good guy left in this whole crowd of troublemakers. Hey Noah! Noah! Noah: Yes, God? God: I want you to build an ark a gigantic boat built from wood. Make it three stories tall, so you can fit a whole bunch of animals inside. You see, a flood is coming soon, for I am going to destroy the earth. But I have decided to save you and your family from the flood, along with many animals. So, start building! Noah: I m sorry, God, but my hearing isn t what it used to be. Did you just tell me to build an ark? That s quite a project for an old man like me! But if you want me to give it a try, I ll do it. God: Yes, I do. In fact, I want you to get to work right now. And don t forget about those animals! Find a male and female of every kind: birds, pigs, giraffes, camels, sheep, and snakes you get the picture. Narrator 2: Noah obeyed, and did everything that God asked. Day after day, he worked on the ark, even though his neighbors thought he was foolish. Neighbor #1: What are you doing, old man? Since when did you decide to open a zoo? Neighbor #2: A floating zoo, no less! That guy is actually building a boat for birds and wild animals! What a fool! Neighbor #3: Hey, since he s gone loopy, maybe we should take a bit of the grain he s storing up. He ll never notice anything missing! Neighbor #4: Not a raindrop in site, and that fool wastes all his time building a boat. Ridiculous! Narrator 3: But Noah kept to his task and didn t give up. When the rain began a week later, his boat was finished and ready to go. Narrator 4: It rained for 40 days and 40 nights, flooding the face of the land. But Noah, his family, and the noisy collection of animals he invited on board, stayed safe and dry in the ark, just as God had promised.!"#$#&'(#)!! "#$&'!
