5 Telephone Hybrids What is a Telephone Hybrid? What do the products offer? General Telephone Hybrids convert an incoming call into an Audio signal for the studio environment. The line echoes on analogue telephone interfaces which result from the 2-wire technology are eliminated by line echo cancellers. To achieve the best results for the elimination of the echoes, digital procedures with signal processors are used. However, during ISDN or VoIP connections, no line echoes will occur due to the use of the 4-wire technology. If analogue telephone calls are received by ISDN or IP telephone hybrids, echoes can also be detected because of the conversion from 2-wire to 4-wire technology in the analogue telephone unit. For clear communication digital line echo cancellers are also required. In comparison to POTS telephone hybrids, ISDN and VoIP telephone hybrids have several important advantages. When a caller disconnects the line connection, this is immediately recognised by the ISDN or IP hybrid. Therefore, the disturbing disconnect signal can be cancelled. Moreover, the Program Presenter always knows whether there is a caller waiting in line or whether the caller has already hung-up. A further important advantage is the transmission and the display of the calling number. Due to this feature the Program Presenter can see the caller s identity before he accepts the call. In this way, callers can be blocked or VIPs can be defined. 6 MAGIC TH2 Digital POTS, ISDN & VoIP Telephone Hybrids General The MAGIC TH2plus offers three functions in one system: There are two analogue a/b interfaces, one ISDN S 0 and one LAN interface. In this way, the system can be operated as double hybrid in the POTS, ISDN or IP mode. Functionality The MAGIC TH2plus has in all three operating modes the same functions e.g. automatic acceptance of incoming calls and conference function. Furthermore, the MAGIC TH2plus offers a Night Service function. If there is e.g. an unstaffed studio, incoming calls can be forwarded automatically to a preselected number. Another interesting feature is the Voice Disguise. It changes the voice so that it is impossible to identify the caller. With the integrated Black List certain callers can be blocked. They will only hear the busy tone. The MAGIC TH2plus provides two handset/headset interfaces to assign both callers to separate pretalk lines or to realize two pretalk locations. The system can be controlled via up to three PCs as well as two MAGIC TH2plus Keypads simultaneously. Digital Signal Processing Independent of the selected operating mode a digital Echo Canceller, an Automatic Gain Control (AGC) and an Expander are available for each caller line. The echo cancelling window is about 100 ms. System Operation The complete system can be configured and operated via the keypad and the graphical display with a resolution of 160 x 32 pixels. Furthermore, the GPIO interface with four configurable TTL inputs/outputs and two relays can also be used for the system operation. MAGIC TH2plus RM with coloured keypad The 19" version of MAGIC TH2plus - the so-called MAGIC TH2plus RM - offers a special front keypad with coloured buttons for PRETALK, HOLD, ON AIR, DROP and CALL FORWARDING for both caller lines. In this way, the user can operate the system via the front keypad almost as comfortably as with the PC Software. If necessary this function can also be deactivated in the configuration. PC Control Analogue and digital Audio interfaces Systems The MAGIC TH2plus incorporates two analogue and two digital Audio interfaces (switchable). The digital AES3 interface has a sample rate converter for the input to adjust the Audio clock to the line clock. The analogue input and output levels can be configured by the software. Besides, on the rear side there are two handset/headset interfaces and two telephone interfaces in order to connect analogue telephones for Pretalk (only in POTS operating mode). The MAGIC TH2plus Windows PC Software is included in the delivery. The software offers the opportunity to configure and control the system with a PC via LAN. Both caller lines are displayed with all relevant information. The caller levels can be adjusted manually if desired. Screening information can be stored in a database and will be immediately available when the system receives a call and the calling number is transmitted. 6

7 Hardware Options MAGIC TH2plus Keypad The MAGIC TH2plus Keypad allows to control the system remotely without a PC. The keypad supports the two caller lines. Both, the manual input of calling numbers and the dialling with the quick dial keys are possible. In maximum, two keypads can be connected with the MAGIC TH2plus. Analogue Telephone Via the PHONE interfaces up to two analogue telephones can be connected with the MAGIC TH2plus for dialling and Pretalk in the POTS operating mode. MAGIC TH2plus Dual 19" Mounting Kit A MAGIC TH2plus Dual 19" Mounting Kit is available in order to mount two MAGIC TH2plus systems next to each other in a 19" rack (1 U). 19" mounting brackets for the installation of a single unit in 1 U are included in the delivery. Hardware Options MAGIC TH2plus Telephone Handset For Pretalk up to two handsets can be connected with the system directly. MAGIC TH2plus Telephone Headset Alternatively to the handsets, up to two mono aural MAGIC THplus Headsets can be connected to the system. USB Headsets The USB Headsets (wired or wireless over DECT) can be directly connected to a PC and are used for workplaces that are connected to the hybrid via Pretalk Streaming (optional). 7 GSM Adapter (Dual or Quad Band) With the help of a GSM Adapter, the MAGIC TH2plus can be extended with up to two GSM interfaces. The GSM Adapter is connected to the POTS interface of the telephone hybrid. After activating the SIM card, all functionalities of MAGIC TH2plus are available in the GSM mode. Redundant power supply There is a redundant power supply with two interfaces for the external 12V power supply of MAGIC TH2plus. If the first power supply of a MAGIC TH2plus system fails, the box switches automatically to the second power supply.

8 Software Options MAGIC TH2plus Software for additional PC workplaces To control the system from additional PC workstations, like a Screener location, up to two further MAGIC TH2plus Software licenses can be used. The Software provides the same control functions as the MAGIC TH2plus Software at the first workstation. A caller line is automatically blocked for other users as soon as one user works with the line. Pretalk Streaming Upgrade HD Voice Upgrade If the systems are used in that Voice-over-IP mode, calls from telephones which are compatible to HD Voice, can be received in 7-kHz quality. Of course, outgoing calls to HD Voice compatible telephones are transmitted in the 7-kHz quality as well. DTMF Tone Generation & Analyzer Plug-In With this software option DTMF tones can be analyzed. There are three DTMF modes: Standard, Gameshow and Event. The DTMF analysis is particularly suitable for e.g. event signalling and game shows. With the Pretalk Streaming Upgrade up to three Pretalk workplaces can be realized whose Audio signals are transmitted via LAN. At the Pretalk workplace a PC with the MAGIC TH2plus Software is installed which is connected with a USB Headset. The Pretalk Streaming Upgrade is especially an advantage if there are not enough Audio lines available or if the Pretalk workplace is located far away from the telephone hybrid. Recording function With the Recording function a caller signal can be recorded live on a PC via the Pretalk Streaming Client. The optional Pretalk Streaming Upgrade is required for this function. Extension for Voice over IP The transmission of DTMF tones is already included in the delivery. Optionally, the MAGIC TH2plus can be extended to a Voice over IP telephone hybrid for two callers. 9 Applications with MAGIC TH2plus One PC and one Keypad workplace The MAGIC TH2plus is controlled with a PC connected via LAN and the MAGIC TH2plus PC Software. A second workplace can access the system via a MAGIC TH2plus Keypad that is directly connected to the telephone hybrid. Both users have their own Pretalk lines. The Screener uses a headset that is directly connected to the MAGIC TH2plus. The Presenter s Pretalk line is implemented via the mixing console. In the conference mode the ON AIR caller signals are available at the Audio output as a mixed signal. A recorded Audio signal or the On Air input Audio signal can be used as the Hold Signal. Three PC workplaces The MAGIC TH2plus is controlled via the three PC workplaces that are connected with the telephone hybrid over LAN. A caller line is automatically blocked for the other users if one user works with that line. A caller in the Hold status is available to all users. Each workplace has its own Pretalk line. Two Pretalk lines are implemented by connecting two headsets - one for the Producer and one for the Presenter - to the MAGIC TH2plus Telephone Hybrid. The Screener receives the Audio signals via Pretalk Streaming and uses an USB Headset. The On Air caller signals are available at two different On Air Audio lines (Two-Faders operating mode). Both, a recorded Audio signal or the On Air 1 Audio input signal can be configured as an Hold Signal. Applications 9

10 MAGIC TH6 Digital POTS/ISDN & VoIP Telephone Hybrids General The digital MAGIC TH6 Telephone Hybrid is available as POTS or ISDN version. Depending on the version the MAGIC TH6 has six POTS or three ISDN BRI line interfaces. It provides two analogue Audio interfaces and four digital Audio channels (available as two AES3 interfaces). Additionally, two handset/headset interfaces are available on the rear side of the unit. Optionally, the MAGIC TH6 can also operate as a Voice over IP telephone hybrid using the LAN interface. In the IP operating mode MAGIC TH6 offers the same functions as in the ISDN or POTS operating mode. The MAGIC TH6 can be controlled and configured with a Windows PC software via LAN. Furthermore, it provides six GPIO contacts as well as four relays. In combination with a MAGIC TH6 Keypad the system can be managed remotely without a PC. Optionally, the MAGIC TH6 Software can be installed at additional PC workplaces. In this case, the MAGIC TH6 can be controlled independently from up to four PC workplaces, e.g. for screener applications or for a two studios operation. Digital Signal Processing The MAGIC TH6 has a digital Echo Canceller for each caller line. An Automatic Gain Control (AGC) as well as an Expander can be used separately for each caller line. PC Operation The MAGIC TH6 Telephone Hybrid can be configured and controlled via the Windows PC Software which is included in the delivery. The PC is connected via the LAN interface to the MAGIC TH6. The MAGIC TH6 Software provides a graphical user interface that displays all six caller lines and their current line status. The PC software has been optimised for touch screen operation. Incoming calls are accepted by pressing the PRETALK, HOLD or ON AIR button. Screening information, such as e.g. the telephone number or the caller s name, are displayed in the corresponding information field. Via the level meter with level control the callers levels can be adapted individually. Functionality Systems The MAGIC TH6 offers three different operating modes: In the Six-Faders operation mode the six callers can be provided on separate Audio lines to the mixing console. Alternatively, in the One-Fader mode or in the Two-Faders mode the callers can be switched in Pretalk and On Air conferences and are available at one or two Audio outputs as a mixed signal. As Hold signal an external, a recorded or the On Air signal can be configured. MAGIC TH6 also offers a call forwarding function and allows the user to lock a single line or all caller lines. Furthermore, the MAGIC TH6 supports a Night Service function. If there is e.g. an unstaffed studio, incoming calls can be forwarded automatically to a pre-selected number. Another interesting feature is the Voice Disguise. It changes the voice so that it is impossible to identify the caller. With the integrated Black List certain callers can be blocked. 11 Rear view MAGIC TH6 POTS Hardware Options MAGIC TH6 Keypad The MAGIC TH6 Keypad allows you to control the system remotely without a PC. The Keypad supports all six caller lines. Calling numbers can be entered and dialling via the quick dial keys is also possible. In maximum, two Keypads can be used with MAGIC TH6. MAGIC TH6 Volume Adapter With the MAGIC TH6 Volume Adapter you can connect your MAGIC Headset to the MAGIC TH6 to control the sound level. The Volume Adapter incorporates a status indication, full volume adjustment and a mute button. It is powered via battery or an external power supply (included in the delivery). USB Headsets The USB Headsets (wired or wireless over DECT) can be directly connected to a PC. They are used for workplaces which are connected to the hybrid via Pretalk Streaming (optional). MAGIC TH6 Telephone Handset For Pretalk two handsets can be connected to the system. MAGIC TH6 Telephone Headset Hardware Options Alternatively, there can be two headsets connected to the handset interfaces. 12 Software Options MAGIC TH6 Software for additional PC workplaces To control the system from a second workstation, e.g. a Screener location, an additional MAGIC TH6 Software licence is needed. The MAGIC TH6 Software communicates via TCP/IP protocol with the MAGIC TH6 using a further Port address and provides the same control functions as the MAGIC TH6 Software at the first workstation. Up to three additional software licences can be installed. A caller line is automatically blocked for other users if one user works with the line. Pretalk Streaming Upgrade With the Pretalk Streaming Upgrade up to four Pretalk workplaces can be realized whose Audio signals are transmitted via LAN. At the Pretalk workplace a PC with the MAGIC TH6 Software is installed which is connected via an USB Headset. The Pretalk Streaming Upgrade is especially an advantage if there are not enough Audio lines available or if the Pretalk workplace is located far away from the telephone hybrid. Recording function With the Recording function a caller signal can be recorded live on a PC via the Pretalk Streaming Client. The optional Pretalk Streaming Upgrade is required for this function. Extension for Voice over IP Optionally, an extension for the MAGIC TH6 Telephone Hybrid is available with which the system can operate as a Voice over IP telephone hybrid. Up to six callers can be handled with the system e.g. in the POTS or ISDN mode. All described functions are available in the IP mode, too. HD Voice Upgrade Using the system with this release in the Voice-over-IP mode, calls from HD-Voice compatible telephones can be received in a 7- khz quality. Of course, outgoing calls to telephones which are HD Voice compatible are transmitted in a 7- khz quality as well. DTMF Generator & Analyzer Plug-In This software extension enables the MAGIC TH6 to analyze DTMF tones. This function is particularly suitable for e.g. game shows. The system highlights the caller who sent the right answer first via DTMF. Additionally, the DTMF extension can also be used for event signalling at e.g. sports broadcastings. For this application DTMF event labels are defined in the software configuration, so can the telephone key 0 be allocated to the word goal. If one of the reporters in the stadiums presses 0, the information goal appears in green letters on the Presenter s screen and he can immediately switch the reporter of the relevant game ON AIR. 13 Applications with MAGIC TH6 One studio: Two-Faders mode The MAGIC TH6 Telephone Hybrid is used for one studio. The Studio Presenter works with the MAGIC TH6 Software. In the Two-Faders operation mode two On Air Audio lines, On Air 1 and On Air 2 are available. Conferences between callers are possible if they are switched to the same On Air Audio line. The Presenter can talk to the callers in Pretalk via a handset or headset that is directly connected with the hybrid. When the callers are on HOLD, they hear the On Air signal, a recorded or an external Audio signal. Two further workplaces for the Producer and the Screener can be established with additional MAGIC TH6 Software licenses. The Producer uses a MAGIC TH6 Headset that is directly connected to the telephone hybrid. The Screener receives his Audio signals via Pretalk Streaming and works with a USB Headset which is connected to his client PC. One studio: Six-Faders mode The MAGIC TH6 Telephone Hybrid is used for one studio. All six callers are available on separate On Air Audio interfaces to the mixing console. The Presenter can talk to the callers via a headset in Pretalk. Both, a recorded signal or the On Air programme can be configured as the Hold signal. Applications 13

14 Two studios with Screening PCs: Two-Faders mode The MAGIC TH6 is used for two studios, both with their own Screeners. The MAGIC TH6 Software is used at all workplaces. The Screener talks to the callers in Pretalk via a headset that is directly connected with the MAGIC TH6. The Presenters of both studios can each use two On Air lines (Two-Faders mode). The studios have no access to the On Air lines of the other studio. Additionally, a separate Pretalk Audio line can be reserved for each Presenter. A recorded signal or the On Air programme can be configured as the Hold signal. If one of the Pretalk lines for the Presenters is not required or if the One-Fader mode is used, an external Hold signal is also possible. Applications 14

15 MAGIC TH Digital POTS, ISDN & VoIP Telephone Hybrids General MAGIC THipPro is available in three basic versions (POTS, ISDN or VoIP). In the POTS version, maximum eight caller lines can be provided. In the ISDN and VoIP version, systems for eight lines as well as for sixteen lines are available. Via the two LAN interfaces on the rear side of the unit system control and VoIP connections are realised. Independent from the type of the line interfaces the MAGIC THipPro provides eight digital Audio lines (four AES/EBU interfaces) as well as two analogue Audio inputs and outputs. Additionally, two handset/headset interfaces can be used for Pretalk. The MAGIC THipPro has an illuminated graphical display with a resolution of 160 x 32 pixels and a front keypad, which can be used for basic settings and status indications. Digital Signal Processing To optimize the Audio quality a digital Echo Canceller, an Automatic Gain Control and an Expander for noise suppression are available for each caller line. System Control The system is controlled via the integrated LAN interface with the Windows PC Software modules MAGIC THipPro LAN and/or MAGIC THipPro Screener. Overall up to 20 control and screener places can be installed. Via the MAGIC THipPro Admin Upgrade the resources of the system can be shared/split for up to six studios. Further control possibilities are provided by the GPIO contacts (8 x TTL input/output, 8 x relay). System Upgrades The MAGIC THipPro POTS and ISDN Telephone Hybrids can be extended later on so that they can be used as Voice over IP telephone hybrids as well. Depending on the upgrade there are eight or sixteen caller lines over IP available. All described functions are also provided in the VoIP mode. Besides, an upgrade to sixteen VoIP caller lines is available for the eight channels MAGIC THipPro VoIP system. Likewise, the MAGIC THipPro 8 ISDN can be upgraded to sixteen ISDN caller lines. Mixed Mode If Voice-over-IP is activated in a MAGIC THipPro ISDN/POTS, the caller lines can be splitted in the socalled Mixed Mode. In this case a simultaneously working with ISDN respectively POTS and VoIP lines is posible. Systems 15

16 Hardware Options Hardware Options MAGIC THipPro Telephone Handset The MAGIC THipPro provides two handset/headset interfaces for Pretalk. By using both handset interfaces separate pretalk lines can be established for a Presenter and for a Screener. The control software prevents operating errors between Presenter and Screener by locking the line for the other one, if it is used by one of them. The distance between the handset and the hybrid system can be up to 20 m since the handset Audio interface in the system is realised as electronically symmetrical interface. MAGIC THipPro Headset Mono Aural The MAGIC THipPro Headset Mono Aural is a practical and elegant solution for calling without an headband, that s why it is particularly suitable for frequent callers. An extra headband is also included in the delivery so that you can choose between two optional ways of wearing the headset: With the earloop the headset is always in the right place and it weighs only 32 g Easy plugging allows to use the headset with the flexible headband The headset is simply connected directly to the MAGIC THipPro. With the quick assembly connectors it is possible to leave the desk without taking off the headset. Equipped with a flexible microphone bail and the noise-cancelling microphone the MAGIC Hybrid Headset provides an optimal wearing comfort and a high intelligibility. The use of the broadband frequency spectrum provides a clear and natural sound and in this way a high listening comfort and improved intelligibility of the callers. 18 Software Options Software Options MAGIC THipPro LAN Software The MAGIC THipPro does not require a server software. All control PC clients are equal and independent from each other. The MAGIC THipPro LAN Software is optimised for the use with a touch screen and all callers can be displayed clearly. Receiving an incoming call, the program presenter can accept the call by pressing the PRETALK, HOLD or ON AIR button. If Pretalk is used to talk to the callers first, an operation mode can be selected where all the other callers are automatically switched on Hold. Also, it is possible to drop the caller or forward him/her e.g. to the editorial office. In the Two-Faders mode two ON AIR buttons are displayed per line so that the callers can be switched directly to both Audio lines. Via the individual levelmeter and level control for each caller an optimal volume can be adjusted manually or automatically with the AGC. If the calling number is transmitted, it will be displayed on the information button or - if configured in the software - it will be automatically replaced with the caller s location. Using the optional database (Microsoft SQL), additional caller information such as name, location, date of the last call, etc. is displayed - provided that the calling number has already been added to the database. Due to the calling number identification function it is also very easy to block certain callers if desired. The DROP ALL button drops all established connections simultaneously (except VIP lines). With LOCK it is possible to lock the system till a certain point of time so that incoming calls are not allowed. Outgoing calls are always possible, even in the locked status. Additionally, it is also possible to lock single lines. For the Call Forwarding function, two different calling numbers can be pre-defined. In this way the Program Presenter can choose between two different call forwarding locations. If no call forwarding number is defined, the number can be entered manually. There are two ways of call forwarding available: the intrasystem call forwarding or call forwarding via ECT (Explicit Call Transfer). The advantage of the intrasystem forwarding is that the Presenter can switch the caller back to PRETALK, HOLD or ON AIR at any time. However, this call forwarding method blocks a caller line, which is not the case when ECT is used. If the Program Presenter would like to establish a call, the telephone number can be entered directly or he can use quick dial keys. Using the optional database a comfortable selection of a caller from the telephone book can also be made. The Next mode was specially developed for telephone games: The callers are automatically accepted and switched on HOLD and can be put ON AIR just by pressing a single key. If the answer to the question of the Program Presenters was wrong, the Presenter only needs to press the NEXT button and the current On Air caller will be dropped while the next caller automatically is switched ON AIR. In this mode the system checks the time each caller has been on Hold and selects the caller with the longest waiting time. Single lines of the system can be configured as VIP 1 lines. Only callers who are defined as VIPs in the database can call these lines. Furthermore, the MAGIC THipPro offers a Night Service function. If there is e.g. an unstaffed studio, incoming calls can be forwarded automatically to a pre-selected number. Another interesting feature is the Voice Disguise. It changes the voice so that it is impossible to identify the caller. With the integrated Black List certain callers can be blocked. They will only hear the busy tone. All settings can be stored as presets and can be used for the system configuration when the software is started. 1 VIPs are identified via number identification 18

19 MAGIC THipPro Screener Software The MAGIC THipPro Screener Software allows a comfortable screening and management of all callers using a Microsoft SQL database. With the Screener Software the MAGIC THipPro can also be controlled remotely, calls can be accepted or the caller status (PRETALK, HOLD, ON AIR etc.) of single lines can be changed. The connection between the system and the MAGIC THipPro Screener Software is established via the local network with the TCP/IP protocol. The caller information is stored in a central database which can be accessed by all users. A multiple installation of MAGIC THipPro Screener in the local network is possible which allows a screening from several pretalk locations at the same time. The software supports four modes with different user interfaces: 1. Screener In addition to the line status an input mask with all relevant caller information is displayed. This mode provides the screening functionality for callers. Furthermore, special lists for call-backs can be generated as desired. 2. Presenter This mode is optimised for the Program Presenter. All relevant caller information are displayed in adjustable font size together with the status of the telephone hybrid. 3. Presenter ON AIR Only the data of the caller who is currently ON AIR is displayed. The Presenter can neither change the caller status, e.g. switch him on HOLD, nor modify the caller data. 4. Only Data Input This mask is only for data editing and statistical evaluation of the caller data. When receiving the telephone number of a caller, the corresponding stored data will appear. If no number is transmitted, the caller can be found easily in the database by using different search functions. The various statistics and history functions show immediately how often the caller has called so far, how long the caller had been ON AIR or in the HOLD status, which topics the caller has discussed and whether the caller has already won in a gameshow. Integrated queries such as "Age of the callers?" or "Time of call?" are implemented and can be displayed separately for male and female callers. Important callers can be marked as VIPs and are therefore allowed to call the VIP lines of the MAGIC THipPro Telephone Hybrid. Likewise, certain callers can be blocked. That means if the calling number is received, the caller is automatically rejected and hears the busy signal. If the calling number is not transmitted, the caller information in the database shows that the caller is blocked and he/she cannot be screened. Further highlights are: automatic birthday calculation, export of the telephone book to Microsoft EXCEL, serial letters with MS WORD, label printing, automatic clearing of unknown callers, automatic analysis of area code to display the caller s location, etc. Software Options MAGIC THipPro Screener Software in Screener mode 19

20 MAGIC THipPro Admin Upgrade The MAGIC THipPro Admin Software allows to split the system resources for up to six studios. A profile is assigned to each studio which defines the number of the caller lines and the Audio interfaces in use. In each studio only the caller lines allocated to the studio are displayed on the MAGIC THipPro LAN and MAGIC THipPro Screener user interface. The big advantage of this solution is the flexible assignment of a studio: A programme can be broadcasted from any studio without complex changes in the PABX or in the Audio cabling. Of course, user rights and different configurations can be managed for each studio with the MAGIC THipPro Admin Upgrade. Pretalk Streaming Upgrade With the Pretalk Streaming Upgrade up to six Pretalk workplaces can be realized whose Audio signals are transmitted via LAN. At the Pretalk workplace a PC with the MAGIC THipPro LAN or Screener Software is installed which is connected with a USB Headset. The Pretalk Streaming Upgrade is especially an advantage if there are not enough Audio lines available or if the Pretalk workplace is located far away from the telephone hybrid. HD Voice Upgrade Using the system with this release in the Voice-over-IP mode, calls from HD-Voice compatible telephones can be received in a 7- khz quality. Of course, outgoing calls to telephones which are HD-Voice compatible are transmitted in a 7- khz quality as well. DTMF Generator & Analyzer Plug-In This software extension enables MAGIC THipPro to analyse DTMF tones. This function is particularly suitable for e.g. game shows. The system highlights the caller who sent the right answer first via DTMF. Additionally, the DTMF extension can also be used for event signalling at e.g. sports broadcasting. For this application DTMF event labels are defined in the software configuration, e.g. the telephone key 0 can be allocated to the word goal. If one of the reporters in the stadiums presses the key 0, the information goal appears on the Presenter s screen in green letters and he can immediately switch the reporter of the relevant game ON AIR. Recording function With the Recording function a caller signal can be recorded live on a PC via the Pretalk Streaming Client. The optional Pretalk Streaming Upgrade is required for this function. 21 Applications with MAGIC THipPro Two studios with presenter and one screener location If MAGIC THipPro 8 is used, eight common caller lines are available for both studios. In each studio all eight lines are displayed. The MAGIC THipPro LAN Software is installed for the workplaces in the studios. The Screener works with the MAGIC THipPro Screener Software. Each Presenter has his own Pretalk line and two On Air lines to realize a Two-Faders operation mode. The Screener uses a headset for Pretalk which is directly connected to the telephone hybrid. Additionally, an external signal can be fed in as Hold signal. Alternatively, the On Air or a recorded signal can be used for Hold. Two studios in redundancy operation Two identical studios are equipped with two MAGIC THipPro ISDN or VoIP systems. Studio A is used as the active studio whereas Studio B is used as the backup one. To each studio a block of eight caller lines is allocated. The Presenter and the Producer use the MAGIC THipPro LAN Software in the studios. The Screener workplace is connected via Pretalk Streaming and works with a USB Headset that is directly connected to the Screener PC. In this way and in case of a backup the Screener can access to Studio B just by activating a Preset. The caller lines can be switched via a TTL contact (switch "Active Studio"). Applications 21

22 MAGIC THipPro with MAGIC Admin Upgrade With the optional MAGIC THipPro Admin Upgrade, the MAGIC THipPro Telephone Hybrid can be used for up to six studios. The caller lines can be assigned to the individual studios or they can be used by several studios together. In each studio only the allocated caller lines are displayed. In our example a main studio and a backup studio are established. Both can access the shared ten caller lines and every studio has two On Air lines for a Two-Faders mode. If the main studio fails, the backup studio can go immediately ON AIR. The Screener talks to the callers in Pretalk via a headset using the MAGIC THip- Pro Screener Software for control. Furthermore, a workplace where caller data are collected/updated and where also a headset and the MAGIC THipPro Screener Software are in use is installed (Hotline Service). Among the main and the backup studio, there are two Pre-Productions and two News Studios. Each of the four studios works with its own ON AIR line and uses the MAGIC THipPro LAN Software. Due to the MAGIC THipPro Admin Upgrade two different Hold signals, which can be allocated to the individual studios, are possible. Alternatively, the On Air signal or a recorded Hold signal can be used. Applications 22

23 MAGIC VoIP Hybrid Manager Central VoIP Telephone Hybrid Management Software General The MAGIC VoIP Hybrid Manager is a central management software for all AVT VoIP Telephone Hybrids (MAGIC TH2plus, MAGIC TH6 & MAGIC THipPro). With this software a certain number of caller lines (SIP accounts) can be assigned to the telephone hybrids in the individual studios. The assignment can be saved as a preset and with the scheduler it can be loaded automatically for different productions at a pre-defined time. In this way, a dynamic allocation of the available caller lines can be realized very easily. The big advantage of the MAGIC VoIP Hybrid Manager is the simple routing of the VoIP accounts without accessing the SIP Server or PABX. All MAGIC Telephone Hybrids in the studios work independently but can be configured via the central MAGIC VoIP Hybrid Manager Software. Even if the software fails, the telephone hybrids continue working without any restrictions. Example A possible application for the MAGIC VoIP Hybrid Manager is depicted in the drawing above. In the ON AIR Studios A and B and the News Studio the MAGIC TH6 Telephone Hybrids are used which allow the assignment of up to six caller lines for each studio. For Production 1 and 2 each MAGIC TH2plus Telephone Hybrid provides up to two caller lines. All studios work with an individual telephone hybrid and the telephone hybrids are connected to the IP network. In total, a pool of VoIP caller lines is available. Depending on the studios requirements the available SIP accounts of the VoIP PABX can be allocated to the individual hybrids via the MAGIC VoIP Hybrid Manager which is installed on a PC in the Master Control Room.
