3 Preface Overview Avaya Unified Messenger is a voice messaging system that combines and voice messaging capabilities. Using Avaya Unified Messenger, all voice, , and fax messages are stored in the your unified mailbox and can be retrieved and sent using the telephone or personal computer (PC). The Avaya Unified Messenger 5.0 Client Installation Guide explains how to install the Unified Messenger client software. Important: This information applies only to the Microsoft Exchange version of the Avaya Unified Messenger client software. Audience This guide is intended for use by Avaya Unified Messenger - Microsoft Exchange version subscribers who install the Unified Messenger client software iii

7 Installing Avaya Unified Messenger Client software Introduction To install Avaya Unified Messenger client software, you only have to run the Setup program and specify where the files should be stored. The rest is done automatically. The Setup program installs the following three components: Unified Messenger Voice Form Unified Messenger Voice Recorder Unified Messenger Options After installation, you might want to configure Avaya Unified Messenger further, for example, to customize the call handling facilities. To do this, start Avaya Unified Messenger Options

8 Avaya Unified Messenger Client Installation Guide Before you begin You must Exit and Logoff from your application before starting the installation. Ensure that Microsoft Outlook is the default application: 1. Go into the Control Panel. 2. Double-click on Internet Options. 3. Select the Programs tab. 4. In the field, ensure that Microsoft Outlook is selected. For the voice player component of Avaya Unified Messenger to work, you must do the following: 1. Go into the Control Panel. 2. Double-click on Sounds and Multimedia. 3. Select the Audio tab. 4. Under Recording, check whether Use only preferred devices is selected. If it is selected, clear it

9 Installing Avaya Unified Messenger Client software Setting permissions Permissions requirements for Windows 2000 clients Your Windows 2000 client must log on to the domain to which the Avaya Unified Messenger voice server belongs, or to a domain that has a trust relationship with the domain to which the voice server belongs. You must have Local Administrator rights for the PC on which you are installing Avaya Unified Messenger. If your Windows client currently does not log on to the correct NT domain, do the following: 1. On the Desktop, right-click on My Computer and select Properties. 2. Select the Network Identification tab. 3. Click Network ID. 4. Use the Network Identification Wizard to enter the name of the correct Windows NT domain. You also need to enter a valid user name and password. Permissions requirements for NT4 clients Log on to the Windows NT domain to which the Avaya Unified Messenger voice server belongs. You must have Local Administrator rights for the PC on which you are installing Avaya Unified Messenger

10 Avaya Unified Messenger Client Installation Guide Hardware and software requirements This section lists the minimum client hardware and software requirements. Windows 2000 Professional Intel 133 MHz, single or dual processor. 64 MB of RAM. Windows 2000 Professional. Microsoft Outlook 2000 or MB of free disk space. Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 Intel MHz, single or dual processor. RAM: standard Microsoft recommendations. Windows 98 with the latest service pack or Windows NT 4.0 with the latest service pack. Microsoft Outlook 2000 or MB of free disk space

11 Installing Avaya Unified Messenger Client software Running the installation You can find the Unified Messenger Setup program in the Client subdirectory of the Unified Messenger directory on your network or on the CD-ROM where the Setup program is stored. Note: If you are running Windows NT4.0, it is recommended that the same user who performed the initial installation upgrades Avaya Unified Messenger. To install client software 1. Open Windows Explorer. 2. Select the drive and the Client subdirectory of the Unified Messenger directory on your network or the CD-ROM where the Setup program is stored. 3. Double-click the Setup icon. The Choose Setup Language dialog box (Figure 1-1) is displayed. Figure 1-1. Choose Setup Language

12 Avaya Unified Messenger Client Installation Guide 4. Select the display language for Unified Messenger Options, Unified Messenger Voice Form, and Unified Messenger Voice Recorder. Note: If you select a language that is not the same as the language installed on your system, some buttons and dialog boxes can be displayed in the system language instead of in the language that you select. InstallShield Wizard prepares for the installation (Figure 1-2). Figure 1-2. InstallShield Wizard 5. Read the information on the Welcome dialog box (Figure 1-3) and click one of the following: Next to continue with the installation. Cancel to cancel the installation. Figure 1-3. Welcome dialog box

13 Installing Avaya Unified Messenger Client software 6. Do one of the following: If you are upgrading Avaya Unified Messenger, go to Step 7. If you are installing Avaya Unified Messenger for the first time, go to Step Click Next in the Welcome dialog box (Figure 1-4) to proceed with the upgrade. Note: This screen is displayed only if a previous version of Avaya Unified Messenger is already installed on your system. Figure 1-4. Upgrade dialog box

14 Avaya Unified Messenger Client Installation Guide 8. In the Customer Information dialog box (Figure 1-5), enter your user name and the name of your organization. Figure 1-5. Customer Information dialog box 9. Click one of the following: Next to continue with the installation. Back to return to the License Agreement dialog box. Cancel to cancel the installation

15 Installing Avaya Unified Messenger Client software 10. If the Destination Folder dialog box (Figure 1-6) is displayed, click one of the following: Next to accept the default directory. All Unified Messenger files are put into this directory. Change... to select your own directory then click Next. Back to return to the Customer Information dialog box. 16 Avaya Unified Messenger Client Installation Guide 11. In the Ready to Install the Program dialog box (Figure 1-7), click one of the following: Install to continue with the installation. Back to return to the previous dialog box. Cancel to cancel the installation. Figure 1-7. Ready to Install the Program dialog box The Installing Unified Messenger dialog box (Figure 1-8) is displayed while the Unified Messenger components are being installed. Figure 1-8. 18 Avaya Unified Messenger Client Installation Guide Removing Avaya Unified Messenger Client software You can remove Avaya Unified Messenger client software permanently from your PC. Note: If you are running Windows NT4.0, it is recommended that the same user who performed the initial installation removes Avaya Unified Messenger To remove Unified Messenger client software 1. Exit and log out of Microsoft Exchange. 2. Open Control Panel and select Add/Remove Programs. 3. Select Unified Messenger Client and click Remove. 4. Click Yes, when asked if you want to remove the Unified Messenger Client. The system removes Unified Messenger Client software from your PC (Figure 1-10).
