Bandura The aim of this publication is to indicate the possibility of acquiring and developing managerial competences through the effective management of self-motivation and action. The belief in self-efficacy is the regulatory mechanism securing the man fulfilling the personal supervision and dealing with life situations. The individual who masters competences in the behavior self control can point out the aims, plan the way of achieving them, exert an influence on the strength of the engagement with their realization and avoid the negative style of thinking. For the author of this concept, A. Bandura, the selfefficacy is the key factor explaining the man s performance and results of his actions. It seems that the concept established on the structure of the three-dimensional relation the human being, his environment and his behavior provides an ample theoretical material to design and analyse factors conditioning the professional effectiveness of individuals. 3
Mgr Katarzyna Dworzecka Manager s Competence Profile within Modern Organisation Radical transformations in environment show how institution has changed, how its model varies, as well as structure and functions. What is important this gives us deep and clear necessity of change of management s competence profile. The article shows changes in hard and soft manager skills and management roles in modern companies. Dr Małgorzata Adamska-Chudzińska Managers` Prosocial Attitudes and Tasks of Organization The article refers to an issue of prosocial attitudes as the essential competence of today`s manager. The fundamental range of social responsibility is included in the qualitative requirements for activity of an organization. The difficulty lies in revealing the interdependence between economic goals and social values and joining them in tasks of an organization. Formation of managers` prosocial attidues means caring of social subjects and, yet, gives an opportunity of reinforcing outcomes and moulding economic stability. Thus the formation is a reasonable proposal for a present-day manager. Dr Anna Tylikowska Social Competence and Personality Social competence is a set of complex skills determining social efficiency. The nature of these skills is behavioral and yet they are acquired, developed and used on the basis of personality. According to McAdams, personality is composed of three different levels: (1.) dispositional traits, (2.) personal concerns and (3.) individuality. At the level of dispositional traits, social competence is related to Big Five traits: extraversion (strongly and positively), neuroticism (strongly and negatively), openness to experience, conscientiousness and agreeableness (moderately and positively). At the level of personal concerns, social skills are related both to relatively lasting motives (the motive of achievement and affiliation) and to temporary personal projects. At the level of individuality, they are related to selfesteem, the locus of control and the degree of personality integration. The most important is probably the last factor the degree of personality integration which determines both the level of social competence and the level of personality maturity. Dr Jacek Miroński Role of Power in Management The article is dedicated to the role of power and politics in a managerial job. The author explains the potential causes for ambivalent views of power and politics in organization by academics and managers. The ambivalent attitude hinders the development of research in this field and reduces the role of concept of power in managerial education. The author concludes that power and politics should be understood as a means to achieve goals in interdependent systems such as organizations. Power and politics should be preceived mainly as managerial tools. 4
Mgr Justyna Stasieńko Personality Type Versus Information Reception This article is dedicated to the problem of manager personality and its influence on reception of the information provided from the outside. The proposed model of opposed values of the manager personality classifies managers into four major categories according to the personality. This classification effects on the growth of interpersonal relationships efficiency and in proper manner and in proper form helps to formulate information that is provided to the managers. Having classified manager category one knows what kind of relationship is preferred by a certain person, what kind of communication strategy should be chosen and how the information should be provided. Dr Maria Węgrzecka Educational Consequences of Educators` Competition The complex system of factors determining education of young people competes with teachers efficaciously (at schools and universities) and has become the environment devoided of indicators. By virtue of moulding hosts and organizers of social-economic life, properly prepared and socially supported educators are obliged to form social and moral attitudes of young people in a reliable, meticulous and tactical way. It means they should actively participate in a difficult contest against multimedia educator to have an influence. Consolidated influence of teachers is now a necessary condition to fulfil the professional competence appropriate to the profile of economist and manager with internal norms, standards of economic and psychoeducational proceedings that are ethically correct. It is demanded by social usefulness of their work. Mgr Agnieszka Wojtczuk-Turek, mgr Dariusz Turek Theoretical & Methodology Benchmark of Managerial Creativity Stimulation The article presents issues of creativity in the context of managers works. The article includes the problems concern circumstances to stimulate managers creativity, which is meaning as personality disposal. It displays in different aspects of functioning of professional manager. The authors indicated the role of enterprise and innovations to be major in development of company. The issue of internal conditions (personal) and external ones (organizational and environmental) influencing creative operation of managers is also mooted. The article also discusses the foundation of creativity training as methods of psychological interaction supporting creative attitude being an important element of competence of an individual in managerial post within an organization. Mgr Monika Eisenbardt, mgr Tomasz Eisenbardt Application of Modern Forms of Learning to Increasing Competence Level of Employees and Managers on Example of E-learning Education of economists and managers has become a new challenge for teachers. Nowadays, when the access to knowledge is a factor, deciding about progress and achieved results, a lot of colleges are 5
investing in e-learning. E-learning is a new form of the education, that is fastly expanding and fosters competence development. Presenting new form of instructing, based on information technology is the purpose of the article. There are those forms of instructing: e-learning instructing behind assistance of specialist platform assigned for publication of educational material and verification of knowledge earned by participants of training. These platforms are furnished with rich didactic instruments enabling activation and motivation of trained persons. blended-learning connection of instructing in the traditional form with e-learning. It fosters high results of adopting the knowledge. Besides, the article presents results of research for personal instructions. The trainings were led in the form of blended-learning. Research was realized by means of e-learning platform Moodle for students of specialization Finance and banking. Dr Anna Rokicka-Broniatowska Virtual Case as Competence Modelling Element The article discusses the interdependencies between pedagogical concepts and technological solutions in the context of distance learning systems. The article also presents an idea of preparing Intelligent Learning Environment Collaborative Learning. This environment includes embedded system for case study with competence confirmation. Dr Agnieszka Dziedziczak-Foltyn Management & Marketing Years of Grandeur In terms of the student numbers, there is no doubt that Management & Marketing studies have dominated at Polish universities in the past several years, which is supported with publicly available statistical data provided in the paper. Despite this conspicuous overproduction of managers (as, theoretically, this is the role of these departments), many young people still tend to choose Management & Marketing. This leads to questions about their motives and employment prospects in the future. The paper tries to deal with these questions and dilemmas basing on research carried out among students of these departments. Dr Beata Mzurek-Kucharska Competence of Manager: Polish and Australian Stereotype. Cross cultural Study The paper presents the results of intercultural psychological research concerning the subjective perception of competence and characteristics of the contemporary manager by culturally distinct environments of Polish and Australian students. The theoretical context for the research conducted was the perception of personal characteristics as stereotypes, constituting cultural products. The stereotype is perceived as a cognitive representation of categories (e.g. social roles, gender, professions), generalized cognitive schemata, seeped in value judgements and a hidden conviction about the unconditional similarity between all representatives of a given group (here: managers). The research employed a self-developed scaling method, which is based on the premises of C.E. Osgood s et al. Semantic Differential. The answer to the question what a typical manager is like was indicating the intensity of certain characteristics. These were assigned to seventeen bipolar scales whose extremes were on one end characteristics and their binary opposites, as in good/bad, active/passive. The analysis of the results revealed distinct stereotypes of the manager among the Poles and the Australians 6
tested. These distinctions concern to a lesser extent the stereotype of male managers; there is a greater divergence in the perception of stereotypical characteristics of women managers. Mgr BoŜena Katarzyna Ojrzyńska Perception of Students Organisation as Basis for Social Competence Training Social competences are the core issue in terms of career development. More and more employers check the competences in recruitment process and employees are trying to acquire them. Social competences are important also for students entering the job market. They can train these competences at university by taking part in special trainings or by working for students associations. Survey among 40 students revealed that students talking about their motives for activity in student associations do not mention the possibility of social competences training. Nevertheless, they are aware of effectiveness of the social training done while working on different projects and possibilities of many-sided development offered by involvement in associations. Students appreciate the after effects of such activity, especially in view of looking for the first job or an internship. Dr Piotr Bielecki Internal Quality Assurance System in Perspective of Quality Management Models (WSE Case) The article focuses on key facts and perceptions of internal quality assurance and management system at the Warsaw School of Economics which can be labeled as system still in the making. The article is intended to give the higher education senior management and academics researching the area in question clearer understanding of a usefulness of various quality measures and instruments for the purpose of institutional self-assessment and quality enhancement plan of action. In the final part, the article outlines a possible using of business/education quality/excellence models as points of reference that can provide conceptual and methodical framework for self-evaluation and defining quality assurance operational objectives. Moreover, it can be assumed that the topics addressed and recommendations suggested also have a potential for developing the school policies on strategic planning in the field of quality management, and valuing importance of strategic planning per se. Prof. dr hab. Marianna StrzyŜewska Influence of Economic studies on Student s Ethical Attitudes The aim of my paper is to answer the question on influence of economic (marketing) studies on student s ethical attitudes. To find out if education influences students ethical attitudes, I identify and compare attitudes toward ethical norm of Ethics Code of American Marketing Association and attitudes towards behavior of manager when he wanted to improve performance of enterprise. The respondents were students of WSE and WU. There is observed an influence of studying at WSE and marketing studies on ethical attitudes, however, it is not a strong one. I found that marketing studies influence positively attitudes to norms of the ethical code. But there is a difference between these attitudes and attitudes towards manager s behavior concerning these norms. The former are on the clearly lower level. I call this phenomenon erosion of attitudes. 7
