1 First Look TM Curriculum for Preschoolers We want preschoolers to take a first look at who God is and understand... God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Joshua 1:9, NLT Bible Story: God is with me when I m afraid. God Helps Moses Exodus 3:1 4:17 Make It Fun Prepare to offer one or more of the following activities as your 2-year-olds arrive. Let one or two teachers lead small groups of children in activities throughout the room while another teacher greets parents and kids at the door. At this age not all children will participate, but most will want to be part of the fun. 1. Ring of Fire What You Need: Hula-Hoops, red and orange crepe paper, and tape. What You Do: Instruct children to move over, under, around, and through the Hula-Hoops. What You Say: At the start of the activity: Let s pretend these Hula-Hoops are on fire and we need to go over, under, around, and through them. Don t be afraid. It s not real fire; just pretend. At the end of the activity: Great job going over, under, around and through the rings of fire. You weren t afraid because you knew this wasn t real fire, but in our story today we ll hear about how Moses talked to God through a bush that was on fire! Do you think he was afraid? I can t wait for you to hear more about Moses today! 2. Go! What You Need: No supplies are needed. What You Do: Give simple, fun action commands to the children, like the following: Do jumping jacks. Spin in a circle. Jump up and down. Wave your hands over your head. Wiggle your body. Clap your hands. Pat your legs. The actions should have lots of movement. Remember silly is fun! Each time you do an action, signal the children to begin doing the action by saying, Get ready. Get set. Go! (Do the actions with the children to encourage participation.) 3 What You Say: Ready to have some fun? I want you to spin in a circle when I say, Go! Get ready. Get set. Go! (Spin.) Okay, stop. Now I want you to jump up and down when I say, Go! Get ready. Get set. Go! (Jump up and down.) Okay, stop. (After a few commands) Freeze! (Look around and smile.) Okay, now sit down for a minute. Wow! You are doing everything I tell you to do. I say go, and you do it! In today s Bible story, we ll hear how God told Moses to go and do something too. Let s play some more! I want you to clap your hands when I say, Go! Get ready. Get set. Go! (Clap.) Okay, stop. (Continue playing as long as the children are having fun.) Make It True Led by the Preschool Storyteller After children have participated in Make It Fun, encourage the kids to have fun singing and listening to the Bible story. When sharing the Bible story, guide kids to gather around on the circle carpet in the middle of the floor. Some kids (especially the younger ones) may wander. That s okay. 4 Make It Stick Choose two or more of the following activities to help make the Bottom Line stick. Lead the activities with small groups of children. Encourage children to play on their own if they do not wish to take part in an activity. 1. Burning Bush What You Need: A Bible. What You Do: Retell the Bible story. What You Say: In our Bible story, we learned about a man named Moses. One day Moses saw something amazing. Do you remember what it was? (Pause.) It was a bush... and the bush was on fire! Wow! The amazing part was that, even though the bush was on fire, the bush didn t burn up! And then something even MORE amazing happened! What was it? (Pause.) That's right! God started talking to Moses from the middle of the burning bush! God asked Moses to do something very hard. He wanted Moses to go and tell the mean king to let God s special people go. How did Moses feel? (Pause.) Moses was so scared. (Make a scared face.) Can you make a scared face like Moses? Show me your scared faces. There you go! Those are some scared faces. Who was with Moses even though he was scared? (Pause.) Yep. God was. God promised Moses that He would be with him and help him the whole time, and that s what God did. God sent Moses brother to be with him. Moses brother was very good at talking in front of people. Now Moses could tell his brother what to say, and then his brother would tell the king and all the people. Moses and his brother weren t afraid anymore because they knew God was with them. God is always with you, too. Who is always with you? God is always with me. 2. Fire Handprint What You Need: Burning Bush Activity Page, red and orange inkpads, wet wipes, and a marker. What You Do: Give each child a copy of the Activity Page. Press a child s hand or fingertips in the inkpads. Then let the child stamp his hand or fingerprints onto his Activity Page, making the fire on the bush. Revisit the Bible story. Curriculum Materials for 2-year-olds 2012 Orange. 5 What You Say: At the start of the activity: God spoke to Moses through the bush that was on fire! Let s make some fire on the bush on our paper. At the end of the activity: God was always with Moses, and God is always with me. Who is always with you? God is always with me.
