1 Nature-based Art Activities Paired with a guided tour of the Sculpture Garden, an art activity is the perfect way to get your group's creative juices flowing. Participants will create and take home their own work of art, using the sights, sounds, textures, and products of nature as sources for inspiration. Please discuss options with program staff at Caponi Art Park to make sure your group's unique needs are met. All fees include a hour-long park tour. If you have ideas for an outdoor activity or project that would be more appropriate for your group or wish to speak further about developing a project tied to your curriculum, please let us know. We are open to developing an activity to fit your needs. Ages 4-6: Egg Carton Bugs Bugs, creepy crawlers, spiders and caterpillars: kids are in love with bugs. This fun project will let kids explore their inner bug while creating their own cute bugs to take home. Students will use everyday objects and recycled materials to create their own unique bugs! Group size: Fee: $7 per participant Animal Story and Creation Connect with nature and your favorite native animals through a story, hands-on art activity, and a game. After listening to a short animal story, children will be able to create their own favorite animal from the story by tracing (or making their own) animal shapes and decorating with found objects and art supplies. Students will finish their animal activity with a fun animal game! Group size: Fee: $7 per participant Explore Art: Tree Collage (New This Year) In this project participants will focus on developing skills such as drawing shapes, using scissors and glue, and problem solving. Collage is the perfect activity for our youngest participants to engage in art and nature while and practicing the motor skills needed for the future! Participants will create their own

2 interpretation of a tree (real or imaginary) using various collage materials. This project provides the structure needed to keep little ones on track but allows for their imaginations to flourish in the creation of their very own collage tree! Group size: I Fee: $ 7 per participant Nature Viewers Ages 4-8: Can you see that spider spinning its web on the sculpture, or the tiny bits of moss growing at your feet? Using recycled tubing, art supplies, and a little creativity, you can create your own unique nature viewer. Your nature viewer will be put to use during the tour to help you and your friends focus on sculptures, plants, and small critters! Group size: Fee: $7 per participant Music with Nature Music is all around us, but sometimes you have to listen very closely to hear it. Discover what makes music at Caponi Art Park, and make your own music too! Using found objects and art materials you will be able to create a musical instrument and express yourself using sounds! Take turns creating expressive rhythms with your instruments in a call and response circle. Group size: Fee $7 per participant Nature Rubbings Journal (New This Year) Caponi Art Park offers an endless array of natural textures to be explored! Complex patterns and shapes from the natural world seem to appear magically when you make rubbings of those textures on paper. Use rubbings of leaves, branches, rocks, bark, grasses, or even park sculptures to create a collage image from the various textures and objects you experience. Your images will be kept safe in your very own accordion journal, where you can add notes and other pictures to share your story of your trip to the Art Park. Group size: Fee $8 per participant

3 Fabric Wall Hangings (New This Year) Ages 6-10: Be inspired by the nature and the art around you while you create your very own artistic wall hanging! Participants will create pictures out of fabric and natural materials and will take home their very own fabric creation. Come explore the cross between fibers and collage and be inspired to make your own one of a kind piece of art. Group size: I Fee $10 per participant Stained Glass Leaf Art Household supplies can be used to make exceptional works of art. You will collect leaves from oaks, birches, poplars, and maples along park pathways to create a natural collage. Leaves will be ironed (with supervision) and preserved between two pieces of wax paper. Watch how crayon flakes can add expressive bursts of color to your leaf art. Proudly display your art in a window at home! Group size: Fee: $7 per participant Seed Art Seeds come in all sorts of interesting shapes, colors, sizes and smells. You can create a marvelous mosaic with these wonderful gifts from nature. Students will be able to design their own unique composition using seeds and various art materials. Explore how something as simple as seeds can create a beautiful piece of art. Group size: Fee $8 per participant Nature Mandalas (New This Year) Mandalas are used in various traditions to focus attention and to aid in meditation. Mandalas use a geometric pattern to represent the universe and can be as simple or as complex as the

4 Ages 8-12: creator wants them to be. In this project, participants will learn about the creation of mandalas and will make their own using items found from nature, seeds and beans. Come explore learn about other cultures and explore the ancient art form of the mandala. Group size: I Fee $9 per participant Sun Catchers Mr. Caponi loves re-using discarded materials for his art in the park and you can too! Learn how to turn a simple paper towel roll into an intricate decoration. Using tissue paper and a little glue, you will be able to create a colorful ornament, reminiscent of stained glass. See how it filters the sunlight in a window at home! Group size: Fee: $7 per participant Nature Weavings (New This Year) Weaving is an ancient tradition that has been uniquely developed across all cultures. n this projects participants will learn about the unique art form of weaving and create their own weaving to take home. Using sticks, yarn, and natural objects, students will be able to learn the basic process of weaving from start to finish so that they can create even more pieces after their visit. Group size: (Firm) I Fee: $8 per participant Plaster Leaf Prints Artist frequently use molds or prints to create replicas of objects from nature. Discover how fun and easy it can be to create your own realistic leaf imprint. Learn about the unique properties of plaster, and create a one-of-a-kind dimensional print of a leaf from the Art Park. Add a splash of colorful paint to your plaster print for a life-like finishing touch.

5 Group size: Fee: $9 per participant Book Making: Nature Observations Using book board students will create a book that showcase their observations about the art and nature that they experience at Caponi Art Park. Students will use their pages to create drawings, write notes and observations, or create pockets to store the natural objects that are found at the park. Group size: Fee: $9 per participant Papermaking Old paper can be used to make new paper: experience recycling first hand by using paper scraps, newspapers, magazines, wrappers,and more. You will help select the ingredients for a new paper recipe! Students will blend their paper into pulp and use a screen to create a unique handmade sheet of paper. Students can add in various materials for decoration or even plant seeds so that they will be able to plant their handmade paper and watch as it grows into a beautiful new plant. Group size: (Firm) Fee: $10 per participant Ages 6 & Up Scavenger Hunt What could be more fun than a scavenger hunt along wooded pathways of Caponi Art Park's sculpture garden? Using creative descriptions, clues, and pictures, you'll discover and engage with natural objects and sculptures within the park. Scavenger hunts are available in several different formats to suit a variety of groups and ages. Ask about our photo scavenger hunt as well! Group size: Any size Fee: $6 per participant Printmaking In this activity participants will explore relief printing and will learn a new way to recycle styrofoam containers. Students will

6 Ages 10 & Up learn the basic technique of a relief print and will be able to use their prints to create frameable art or even greeting cards. Participants will go home with multiple prints inspired by Caponi Art Park to share with their friends and family. Group size: (Firm) Fee: $9 per participant Dream Catchers Today, dream catchers are popular ornaments, often used for decoration, and readily available in gift stores across the country. Did you know that dream catchers also served a more meaningful purpose? Discover the dream catcher's rich cultural heritage and its origins in Native American culture, then using a tree branch, yarn and other decorative objects, you will be able to weave your own. Group size: Fee: $9 per participant Sculpture Making: Plaster casting of natural and found objects After learning about Mr. Caponi's sculpture techniques, create a sculpture to call your own! You'll discover a new use for clay by creating a temporary mold. As wet plaster is poured into your mold, learn about its unique properties and watch it dry before your eyes. Shortly after, you'll be able to pop your sculpture out of its mold and take it home to display your one of a kind piece of art. Group size: (Firm) Fee: $10 per participant
