1 Page 1/ INS250 BAVARIAN AUTOSPORT Angel Eye Kit Installation Instructions NOTE: This kit may be used on the HID or standard headlight systems. However these instructions are written specifically for the standard headlights. The installation on HID headlight will be similar. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read these instructions completely and make note of the cautions, before beginning installation. CAUTION: The Angel Eye light tubes are very fragile. The light tubes are glass and can not be twisted or flexed. Be very careful handling the Angel Eye rings during assembly. 3 Series 99 on PART NUMBERS: AE KIT PROCEDURE: 1. Open the engine hood and prepare to remove the headlights and parking lights. 2. Remove the parking lights by the following procedures: All except 2002 on 4-door, and 3/2003 on 2-door models: A) Note the small oval shaped hole in the inner fender edge, just a few inches to the rear of the front edge (see figure 1). Insert a long screwdriver (flat or phillips does not matter) into the access hole. The screwdriver must reach into the hole at least 3". Angle the tip of the screwdriver toward the inside of the vehicle and gently push down on the tip of the parking light securing tab (see Figure 2). At the same time, push the tip of the screwdriver toward the front on the vehicle in order to push the light assembly forward so it can be pulled out (see Figure 3). B) Remove the harness plug from the bulb holder socket at the back of the parking light assembly on 4-door: A) Note the small hole in the inner fender edge, just a few inches to the rear of the front edge (the hole may be covered by a black plastic plug). Insert a long phillips screwdriver into the access hole. The screwdriver must reach into the hole at least 3". Engage the screwdriver with the phillips retaining screw and loosen the screw a few turns (see Figure 4). Pull the parking light lens forward. B) Remove the harness plug from the bulb holder socket at the back of the parking light assembly. 3. Remove the headlight assemblies by the following procedures: A) Remove the four 8mm hex screws securing the headlight assembly into the vehicle (see Figure 5 for screw locations). B) Gently pull the headlight assembly forward. Unplug the headlight bulb harness connectors. The lower painted trim is attached to the headlight and has a snap clip securing it to the fender at its outer end. Use a screwdriver to release the snap clip, then pull the complete headlight assembly from the vehicle (see Figure 6). 4. Remove the painted trim strip from the headlight assembly by releasing the clips along the lower edge and at the inboard end (see Figure 7). 5. Remove the headlight outer lens cover by releasing the upper and lower snap clips and pulling the cover from the housing (see Figure 8). 6. Unsnap and remove the plastic headlight bezel trim (see Figure 9).

2 7. Disconnect the two Angel Eye light harnesses from the transformer. 8. Pull back the rubber boot at the back of the headlight assembly and insert the Angel Eye ring s wires through the front of the headlight assembly at the top of the reflector (see Figure 10) and out the rear of the headlight bucket, past the rear rubber seal (see Figure 11). 9. Clip the Angel Eye rings onto the top edges of the chrome reflector housing (see Figures 12 & 13). 10. Plug the Angel Eye connectors, for both the high and low beams, into the transformer units (see Figure 14). 11. Locate a spot on the back of the headlight housing to mount the transformer box. Clean the mounting spot and secure the box with the supplied double sided tape. Secure the loose wiring with zip-ties. 12. Install the plastic bezel trim and the clear outer lens. 13. Attach the upper seal trim and the painted trim strip to the headlight assembly. 14. Install the headlights into the vehicle while carefully guiding the ballast input wires into the engine compartment. 15. You have various options on how your Angel Eyes will function. You can choose to have the Angel Eyes turn on whenever the engine is running (key in run position), when the headlights are on or when the parking lights and headlights are on (most popular). Of course, you can also run the lights from a separate switch. The black wires are ground and can be connected to any chassis or wiring ground source. If you would like the Angel Eyes to turn on when the parking lights are on, then the red wires should be crimped to the parking light wiring at the headlight switch or fuse box (see Bentley repair manual). If you would like the Angel Eyes to turn on whenever the engine is running, then locate an ignition power source (see Bentley repair manual) to jumper the red wires to. If you would like to control the Angel Eyes from a separate switch, run the red wires to the location of your powered auxiliary switch. 16. Once you have determined your wiring points and routing, route the wires into position and secure with wire ties. Mount the headlights into the vehicle if they were previously removed. Complete the power and ground wiring. 17. Test the operation of the Angel Eye lights.
