Develop patient and staff educational tools including booklets, pamphlets, clinical guidelines, and standards of care. Coordinate web development, including creating and designing. Develop script for risk benefit video. Provide education and educational materials to nursing and resident staff. Round on bariatric surgery inpatients Serve as resource to patients and inpatient nursing staff. Assist in patient selection and evaluation for bariatric surgery. Receive patient telephone calls related to health concerns, triage call, evaluate symptoms and collaborate with the physicians as needed to establish a treatment plan. Arrange for necessary tests, procedures or prescriptions, and follow up with patient. Assist physician during office visits and procedures. Counsel bariatric patients regarding pre-operative, post-operative and long term care. Conduct weekly education class for all bariatric surgery patients. Receive lab results and make recommendations for adjustments in vitamin supplements. Collect research data; coordinate research projects; recruit participants for current projects. Serve as advisor to Gastric Bypass Club, create monthly newsletter, recruit guest speakers for monthly meetings, facilitate monthly meeting. Provide comprehensive education to visiting nurses, dietitians, and physicians for VCU Health Systems Bariatric Mini-Fellowship program. Served as clinical coordinator of a multi-center FDA clinical trial: Lap-Band Adjustable Gastric Banding System for Treatment of Clinically Severe Obesity. Led successful effort for ASBS Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence application. April July 1994 Clinical Nurse IV Manager, Surgical/Trauma Stepdown Unit Assistant Nurse Manager and Unit Educator, Surgical/Trauma floor
2 Managed staff and daily function of the Surgical/Trauma Stepdown Unit. Responsibilities included personnel management, staff orientation, scheduling, and coordination of care. Served as Unit Educator; coordinated education of new staff members, organized educational events for unit. Provided direct patient care to General Surgery, Bariatric and Trauma patients.
