2 ARAB Arabic Language I The objective of this course is to provide students with the important skills to communicate in Arabic; listening, speaking and reading, with attention to writing skills in relation to each. ARAB Arabic Language II The objective of this course is to enable students to master the skill of the Arabic writing, and scientific and professional communication. The course content combines the basics of the language and linguistic rules to regulate the methods of writing, and experience the skills of the Arabic writing. Prerequisite: ARAB 1301 ENGL Composition I A course devoted to improving the student s writing and critical reading. Writing essays for a variety of academic purposes, including the introduction to argumentation, critical analysis, and the use of sources. ENGL 0349, GUST 0342 ENGL Composition II A more extensive study of the skills introduced in ENGL 1301 with an emphasis on critical thinking, research and documentation techniques, and literary and rhetorical analysis. Prerequisite: ENGL 1301 ISLA Islamic Culture The objective of this course is to introduce students the foundations, manifestations and structures of Islamic Culture and to enlighten them about the challenges facing this culture. LAWC Introduction to Law This course deals with the general theory of law and the theory of rights. The course is divided into two parts: (1) the theory of law and (2) the theory of rights. The first part introduces the concept, philosophy, development, sources, classifications and scope of application and interpretation of law in general. The second part introduces the students to the theory of rights as known in the civil law systems. This part will deal with the concept, classification, subjects and persons of rights and other relevant issues. PHIL Introduction to Philosophy This course is a theoretically diverse introduction to the study of ideas, including arguments and investigations about abstract and real phenomena, particularly in the areas of knowledge, ethics, and religion. Prerequisite: ENGL 0349, GUST 0342 PHIL Introduction to Ethics A philosophical reflection of the basic principles of the moral life, including traditional and contemporary views concerning the nature of goodness, happiness, duty, and freedom as they apply to individual right, business, medicine, and community wellbeing. 3 MATH 1335 Statistics for Health Science General principles of health care statistics with emphasis in hospital statistics. Skill development and computation and calculation in health data. Prerequisite: ENGL 0347, GUST 0341, MATH 0309, MATH 0312 HIST History of Qatar This course outlines major political, social, and economic developments in Qatar from the mid-nineteenth to late twentieth century. It begins with a discussion of the physical environment and human settlement in the Gulf, and then proceeds to examine European incursion and its impact on the region; Ottoman and British rivalries; the rise of the local political leadership; the establishment of the British protectorate; the emergence of Qatar as an independent state; and the development of oil and its impact. PSYC Introduction to Psychology This course is an introduction to the science of psychology. The course presents you with a brief overview of the major areas of psychology so that as a student you will be exposed to the approaches, methods, and techniques within the field of psychology. Prerequisite: ENGL 0349, GUST 0342 SOCI Introduction to Sociology This course focuses on developing an appreciation: developing an appreciation of our culturally diverse world; understanding sociological theories through micro and macro sociology; helping students understand social control and society's influence on our behavior and attitudes; social inequality and the effect of social stratification on our lives and society; and social change. Prerequisite: ENGL 0349, GUST 0342 BUSI Introduction to Business Fundamental business principles including structure, functions, resources, and operational processes. Topics covered include economics, international business, marketing, finance and accounting in addition to management, ethics and social responsibility. 4 BIOL 2402 Human Anatomy and Physiology II (Lecture & Lab) Credit Hours: 4 Continuation of BIOL 2401 including the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, reproductive and endocrine systems with Laboratory based practical teaching on Human Anatomy & Physiology. Prerequisite: BIOL 2401 HIMA 1300 Health Information Management Studies This course focuses on the concepts and principles of health information management including records management, data and information management, risk and quality, accreditation, security, confidentiality, privacy, release of information, legal and ethical considerations in relation to managing health information, and operational workflows and processes of the various areas related to health information management. The objective of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the basic concepts of Health Information Management. Prerequisite: ENGL 0349, GUST 0342 HIMA 1301 Introduction to Healthcare Systems This course provides students with an overview of the health care system in Qatar along with international comparisons. The roles and responsibilities of key players within the health care network are discussed along with healthcare policy and strategies for provision of primary healthcare and the current and future challenges for the Qatar in the 21st century. Prerequisite: ENGL 0349, GUST 0342, HIMA 1300 MDCA 1313 Medical Terminology This course covers basic medical terminology incorporating the study of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations and symbols, surgical procedures, medical specialties and diagnostic procedures. Prerequisite: ENGL 0349, GUST 0342 HIMA Introduction to Clinical Classification This courses introduces students to clinical classification that teaches them about appropriate code application according to the International Classification of Diseases 10th revision Australian Modification Australian Classification of Health Interventions and Australian Coding Standards to classify conditions, and interventions at a basic level with an emphasis on accuracy, completeness, and sequencing. Prerequisite: BIOL 2402, HIMA 1300, MDCA 1313 HIMA Healthcare Information Systems This course introduces students to the concepts and practices of healthcare information systems. Topics include: (1) introduction to the health IT discipline; (2) major applications and commercial vendors; (3) decision support methods and technologies; (4) information systems design and engineering; and (5) new opportunities and emerging trends. 5 HIMA Health Economics, Reimbursement and Insurance This course introduces students to the health resource management frameworks and methodologies including health funding models and reimbursement schemes associated with the social health insurance program in Qatar. Prerequisite: HIMA 1303 HIMA Integrated Health Information Management This course provide students with the transversal skills and knowledge required to work in various roles within the Health Information Management industry. This course also covers other topics essential in the work environment including healthcare communication, medical law and ethics; health accreditation requirements, healthcare quality and risk principles.
