2 1 Have mercy on me, O God, PSALM 51 according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin! 3 For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.

3 4 Against you, you only, have I sinned PSALM 51 and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me. 6 Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

4 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice. 9 Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. PSALM 51

5 11 Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you. 14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, PSALM 51

6 and my tongue will sing aloud PSALM 51 of your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. 16 For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.

7 17 The sacrifices of God PSALM 51 are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

8 How should we respond when we are found to be

11 2 It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king's house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful. 3 And David sent and inquired about the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite? 2 SAMUEL 11:1-5

12 4 So David sent messengers and took her, and she came to him, and he lay with her. Then she returned to her house. 5 And the woman conceived, and she sent and told David, I am pregnant. 2 SAMUEL 11:1-5

18 CONFESSION ADMIRE GOD S PERFECTION The LORD passed before [Moses] and proclaimed, The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation. EXODUS 34:6-7

23 CONFESSION APPEAL TO HIS SCANDALOUS GRACE All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. [Sinners] are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith ROMANS 3:23-26

24 CONFESSION APPEAL TO HIS SCANDALOUS GRACE This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. ROMANS 3:23-26

25 CONFESSION APPEAL TO HIS SCANDALOUS GRACE This was to show God's righteousness, Hide your face from my sins because in his divine forbearance and blot out all my iniquities he had passed over former sins. It was to show his righteousness PSALM at 51:9 the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. ROMANS 3:23-26

26 CONFESSION ACCEPT HIS MISSION Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit PSALM 51:10-15
