The E550 Series 2 meters equipped with a powered RS232 port support the use of ETM MSM modems. These are meters with the.07 or the.37 options of the meter. The modem fits under a transparent terminal cover with the part number P This meter terminal cover can be ordered separately if the ETM MSM modem is being added to a pre-installed meter. It may be larger than the terminal cover that was originally equipped with the meter and free space must be available. The E550 Series 1 meters can be equipped with a RS232 port that can be used by the ETM MSM modems. These are meters with the.02,.42 or.62 options of the meter. The E650 meters can be used with the ETM MSM modems provided that it has a RS232 port in channel 1. This is accomplished by equipping the meter with a choice of CU-A5/+, CU-B1/+ or CU-B4/+. The modem is fitted to a terminal cover adapted for the CU-ADP2 attachment. These meter terminal covers can be ordered separately if the ETM MSM modem is being added to a pre-installed meter. It may be larger than the terminal cover that was originally equipped with the meter and free space must be available to use this solution. The modem is mounted on the terminal cover as opposed to the case where the E550 Series 2 where it sits under the terminal cover. Landis+Gyr D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note

SIM card installation 7/34 3 SIM card installation This section deals with installing the SIM card (see also section 7 "SIM cards") into the modem which is always done while the unit is not powered up. For an UMTS network, the SIM card is often referred to as an USIM card. SIM card must provide GSM service The SIM card must include a GSM CSD (Circuit Switched Data) service as a minimum. CSD service is required to update the firmware, if necessary. SIM cards that provide only a GPRS service are not supported. Not having a CSD service releases Landis+Gyr from support costs associated with software issues. SIM card must support SMS receiving and sending The SIM card must support SMS receiving and sending in order to support remote programming and other features. Keep SIM card contacts clean The SIM card is an electronic component. As such, the metallic contacts must be clean from oils and other contaminants when installed into the modem. Failure to keep the contacts clean may lead to the long term corrosion of the contacts between the SIM card and the modem. This can result in the intermittent or permanent interruption of the modem's operation. D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

8/34 SIM card installation 3.1 SIM card installation for ETM and ETM Dangerous voltage at the terminals Dangerous voltage exists at the terminals and the proper safety procedures must be followed. Please refer to the E550 User Manual for the proper safety procedures. 1. Open the terminal cover of the E550 meter to install or change the SIM card in the ETM modem. 2. Disconnect the RS232 cable from the meter. Do not proceed further without removing the cable. Failure to do so can cause damage to the modem or the SIM card. If there is an antenna, this should also be detached from the modem. 3. Check that signal strength of the modem is sufficient (observe signal strength LEDs on the ETM MSM modem, which are visible through the transparent cover of the CU-ADP2). This completes the installation of the SIM card. D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

12/34 MSM solution features 4 MSM solution features 4.1 Choosing between MSM modems Currently there are two MSM modem suppliers (see section 1 "Background") and there will be new suppliers being brought into the supply chain. This document only contains information about the ETM modem. Landis+Gyr recommends that customers evaluate each MSM modem individually to ensure that it has the specific features that the customer requires. Furthermore, Landis+Gyr recommends that customers use only the features that are part of the MSM modem feature set as much as possible to ensure compatibility to future MSM modem solutions. Vendor specific features should be avoided whenever possible and Landis+Gyr will make every effort to increase the feature set from time to time. Some features are vendor specific. Although these features are often useful, the use of these vendor specific features will generally cause an inherent incompatibility between MSM modem suppliers. For example, if the a vendor specific feature is used, the user will no longer be able to use another MSM modem that lacks this feature. Multiple sources reduce the risk of being locked into a single supplier and users need to be aware of this. The following table provides an overview of supported features sets: Feature MSM ETM ASL Electromagnetic compatibility of meter and modem Under terminal cover mounting RS232 with flow control Powered RS232 RJ45 interface Unpowered RS232 RJ12 interface 1 Above terminal cover mounting option 1 DIN rail or wall mount option 1 GPRS service CSD service UMTS HSPA service 2 SMS modem configuration SMS modem queries Dual band 900/1800 GSM Transparent mode operation E550 RSSI on meter display Signal level indication LED SMS alerts 3 All phase failure SMS alert 4 Dynamic IP addressing Receive CSD call while listening to socket (class B) GPRS/CSD windowing Converge/MAP tools tested PIN code support Graphical user interface for modem configuration Landis+Gyr D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note

MSM solution features 13/34 Notes: 4.2 MSM modem features Mounting Only with ETM and ETM Only with ETM and ETM SMS Alert not possible with CU-Ax or CU-Bx Only when meter equipped with auxiliary power supply and for ETM and Landis+Gyr intends to support a core set of features that will always be part of the MSM feature set. These are described in this section. Features that are not part of the MSM features are indicated as vendor specific features. The ETM modems are available in four configurations (see table "Modem variants" in section 2 "Meters supporting ETM MSM"). Under the meter terminal cover In an adapter CU-ADP2 The MSM modems ETM and ETM are designed to be mounted under the terminal cover of E550 meters and get power from the powered RS232 connector of the E550 meter. The modem fits under the terminal cover and is protected under the utility seal. The MSM modems ETM and ETM are designed to be mounted in an adapter CU-ADP2 fitted to a terminal adapted for the attachment of the CU-ADP2. These MSM modems get power from the CU-ADP2. The CU-ADP2 is protected by a utility seal and can be wall mounted, DIN rail mounted or terminal cover mounted. This is a vendor specific feature Power supply Via powered RS232 interface Via adapter CU-ADP2 The E550 meter supplies the power to the MSM modems ETM and ETM via the powered RS232 interface (pin 4 and 8 of the RJ45 connector, see figure 6). The supply to the modem is enabled when either of these conditions is met: one phase has more than 100 V applied two phases have more than 58 V applied with a phase angle of at least 90 degrees between the phases In addition, if the modem draws more than approximately 250 ma average, the supply to the modem will be interrupted and polled periodically. The CU-ADP2 supplies the power to the MSM modems ETM and ETM via its 10-pin plug. The maximum current is 450 ma. The use of an external power supply is a vendor specific feature Flow controlled RS232 connection to meter The MSM modems ETM and ETM use pin 2 of the RJ45 connector as a CTS (Clear To Send) flow control signal, the MSM modems ETM and ETM use pin 1 of the RJ12 connector (see figure 6 below). The flow control ensures reliable communications between the meter and the modem when there is congestion between the network and the modem. This prevents the overflow of buffers. 14 14/34 MSM solution features RJ45 connector for powered RS232 (E550) RJ12 connector for RS232 (E650) Telecommunication services NC CTS 2 CTS 2 TxD 3 TxD 4 GND 5 NC 6 RxD 3 GND 4 DTR 5 RxD 6 DSR 7 NC 8 V+ ( V) Figure 6 Pin assignment RS232 connector The use of an RJ12 connector is a vendor specific feature. The CU must be a variant that supports flow control in order to be used with the ETM modem. Such modules are designated with the plus (+) option at the end of the name. The CU-B4+ is suitable while the CU-B4 is not. GSM CSD Fixed IP GPRS 3G UMTS SMS All MSM modems support a circuit switched data (CSD) service that emulates a traditional analog phone line modem connection. All MSM modems support a TCP based service operating over an IP based network. The MSM modems ETM8120-2/3 support GPRS multislot class 12, the MSM modems ETM8130-2/3 GPRS multislot class 10. The user can configure the APN (access point name), user ID and password and other GPRS parameters. The implementation includes a programmable ping gateway address. When this gateway does not respond after a number of tries, the modem is assumed offline and any current IP contexts are reset and a new GPRS session is started. This ping packet is only sent when there is no active data transmission for an extended period of time. The MSM modems ETM8130-2/3 support 3G UMTS (download and upload max. 384 kbit/s) and HSDPA (high speed downlink packet access with enhanced download capacity of max. 3.6 Mbit/s). This is a vendor specific feature. The ETM modems support the use of SMS messages to accomplish different commands. This may include simple configuration, diagnostic commands or control commands. This is a vendor specific feature Frequency bands Quad band Dual band The MSM modems ETM8120-2/3 are quad band modems and designed to operate and switch automatically to use the frequency band 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz depending on the mobile network. The MSM modems ETM8130-2/3 are dual band modems and designed to operate and switch automatically to use the frequency band 900 and 1800 MHz for GSM/GPRS or the frequency band 900 and 2100 MHz for UMTS depending on the mobile network Transparent modem All MSM modems are transparent modems meaning that they are protocol independent. They do not respond to dlms or IEC commands but rather transparently send the data from end to end over a non-transparent channel. Remote commands to configure the modems or to take modems offline is done through escape sequences and AT commands specific to the modem supplier. Landis+Gyr D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note

MSM solution features 15/ Received signal strength indication E550 meter E650 meter SMS alerts E550 meter E650 meter All MSM modem software is integrated with the E550 meter to enable the measurement and indication of the GSM network signal strength on meter display during installation. In order to have this function enabled, the E550 meter must be configured to display the "Antenna Field Strength on/off" in the service menu. MAP tools can also be used to read the signal strength using an optical head. The E650 meter does not support this feature. With the MSM modem ETM used with E650 meters the signal strength is only indicated on the green LEDs (see section 6 "LED display"). All MSM modems software is integrated with the meter to send SMS messages. When the modem is busy with other activity such as during an actual data transmission, the SMS message has a lower priority and retransmissions will be repeated. The E550 meter's powered RS232 interface is the only interface that can generate SMS alert messages. E650 meters ZxD300/400xR with an integral RS232 interface must be connected to the ETM MSM modem via this interface to send SMS messages. This is available starting with firmware release version B32. E650 meters ZxD300/400xT with a CU-Ax or CU-Bx with RS232 interface cannot be used to send SMS alerts. Because the modem uses a single phase power supply even when the meter is equipped with an auxiliary power supply option SMS transmission may be unreliable. The CU-ADP2 power supply has sufficient charge to power the modem for up to 8 seconds. This is a vendor specific feature GSM/GPRS time window support Dynamic IP mode Fixed IP mode Class B UMTS limitation Only the dynamic IP mode requires a dedicated time window for IP communication and a separate time window for GSM CSD communication. The ETM modems do not support dynamic IP mode. When operating in fixed IP GPRS mode and when there is no active IP communication session, the ETM modems are capable of answering a CSD call that comes in. This means that GSM/GPRS time windows have no real meaning for this mode other than to limit the time registered on a network. The E550 meter is able to define a time window when it is disconnected from the ISP. The E650 does not support a GSM time window. The MSM modem based on the TC63i modem is capable of answering a CSD call while in GPRS mode when listening but not during an active data transfer. The MSM modem based on the EU3-E is not capable of answering a CSD call while in GPRS mode when listening.. In all cases, during an active GPRS transfer, an incoming CSD call will cause an ongoing GPRS communication to fail. The MSM modem based on the EU3-E modem cannot answer a CSD call while it is logged onto the UMTS network. In some networks, SMS services are not available while logged into the UMTS network. 16 16/34 MSM solution features Converge and MAP tools tested All MSM modems have been tested with Landis+Gyr MAP tools and head end systems (HES) such as Converge to ensure correct operation Remote maintenance and configuration Modem initialization The MSM modems can be configured remotely. For example, if a parameter that affects GPRS operation needs to be changed due to network conditions, the ETM MSM modem can be contacted remotely, taken offline and then reconfigured and re-started. In addition, should it become necessary to download new firmware to the meter either to provide additional functionality or to correct bugs, the ETM modem firmware updates can be downloaded. Carrier charges for data volume or connection times will apply. The meters initialize the modems into a known state that is appropriate for the proper operation of the modem. This configuration is the same configuration tested by Landis+Gyr during our internal testing of the system Robust against incorrect configuration Local programming application All ETM MSM modems will revert to GSM CSD operation in the event that GPRS (UMTS) operation is incorrectly configured or GPRS (UMTS) service is not available after approximately 10 minutes. Each modem will tend to have its own programming interface. This is proprietary and highly particular to a specific implementation. This is outside the scope of the MSM specification. The ETM modem features a configuration tool using a serial port. Please see ETM configuration tool user manual for more information. The configuration tool allows the user to: Read a configuration from a modem and save it. Write a configuration to a modem. Execute AT or ET commands using the terminal program. Select modem options using a graphical user interface. Enter PIN codes for SIM cards Labelling Labelling is in general outside the scope other than that a specific set of information will definitely be provided. This includes: 1. Bar code of the serial number 2. Manufacturer name and contact information 3. Product name 4. Applicable warnings and declarations Beyond this, any other form of labelling is vendor specific. 17 Workflow 17/34 5 Workflow 5.1 Installing the SIM card 5.2 Configuring the modem Local configuration The workflow defines the steps that the user of the ETM MSM modems must do to configure, install and operate the ETM MSM modems. All MSM modems have a factory default mode that defaults to the GSM mode. If the modem will only be used in GSM mode, the SIM card can be installed on-site during the installation or at the utility. The installation procedure is described in section 3 "SIM card installation". If the modems will be used in GPRS/UMTS mode, further configuration must be done to configure the GPRS/UMTS parameters. The configuration of the GPRS/UMTS parameters can be done locally or remotely. To configure the modem locally, an ETM programming kit must be available. This ETM programming kit connects a Windows computer with the ETM MSM modem without using a mobile network. The advantages include: the user can see the modem during the configuration the connection between the PC and the modem is faster than calling up a modem to configure it only a single user needs to know how to configure the modems SIM card installation can be done in a controlled environment and this reduces the risk of ESD damage. The disadvantage is that the modems have to be taken out of the packaging in order to perform this programming and resources are needed to program. The followings steps describe how the modems can be configured once the ETM configuration software has been installed on a Windows XP or Windows 7 computer: 1. For MSM modems ETM and ETM detach the modem from the terminal cover by pressing on the tabs on the side of the modem holder preferably with a small screw driver. Please refer to figure 7. For MSM modems ETM and ETM unscrew and open the cover of the adapter CU-ADP2 mounted on the meter terminal cover. Electro-static discharge can damage the modem When the modem is detached from the terminal cover or when the cover of the adapter CU-ADP2 has been removed, the electronic components are exposed. The printed circuit board is susceptible to electro-static discharge and this can lead to latent damage to the modem. Always handle the modem by the plastic holder and avoid touching any of the electronic components. Failure to do so will void your warranty. 18 18/34 Workflow Tabs Figure 7 Detaching modem from terminal cover 2. For MSM modems ETM and ETM replace the RS232 cable connected to the ETM MSM modem with the customised cable RJ45 to RJ12 of the ETM programming kit. 3. Make sure that a SIM card is installed (installation procedure see section 3 "SIM card installation"). 4. Connect the ETM programming kit to a serial port and as well, connect the USB port of the ETM programming kit to an USB port of the computer. Click on COMx: CLOSED (where x = selected port number). The serial port will open and the button will be labelled COMx (9600): OPEN. Maximum supply voltage for CU-ADP2 is 240 V (phase to neutral) Do not connect phase to phase voltage to the CU-ADP2 WAGO connector, this would damage the CU-ADP2 circuits. 9. This next step starts the boot process of the modem and requires that you enter a key stroke within 3 seconds and so the computer must be prepared. For the ETM and ETM8130-2, connect the RJ45 to the ETM programming kit. For the ETM and ETM8130-3, connect the RJ45 to the ETM programming kit and then apply power to the CU-ADP2 WAGO connector. 10. Press the escape key a few times. The boot process stops and modem communicates over the serial port at 9600 baud, 8 bit, no parity and one stop bit. D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

Enter an "ISP User Name" and "ISP Password", if necessary. In the "Local Server" area Enter the "Port Address". D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

22/34 Workflow In the "Transparency" area Set the value "Delay before data send" to 10. Activate checkbox Use Delay from last byte received. In the "Connected to ISP or Server" area Activate checkbox "Connect to ISP at startup", if GPRS mode is wanted. Set the value "Disconnect Socket if inactive" to 5 min. 16. Click WRITE MEMORY. The changed data will be written into the memory of the ETM MSM modem. A progress bar indicates the progress. If the write process is successful, OK is indicated. 17. Click on COMx (9600): OPEN (where x = selected port number). The serial port will be closed and the button will be labelled COMx: CLOSED. 18. Exit the ETM configuration software tool. 19. Unplug the ETM programming kit from the RS232 socket and the USB socket of the Windows computer. If applicable, disconnect the supply to the adapter CU-ADP For MSM modems ETM and ETM replace the custommised cable RJ45 to RJ12 of the ETM programming kit again with the original RS232 cable and close the cover of the adapter CU-ADP For MSM modems ETM and ETM re-install the modem back into the terminal cover. 22. Install the ETM MSM modem on the meter and apply power to the meter. This completes the local configuration of the ETM MSM modem. Landis+Gyr D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note

Workflow 23/ Remote configuration To configure the ETM MSM modem remotely, it must be properly installed and powered. The modem must be at least logged onto the GSM or UMTS network and ready to receive SMS messages, CSD calls or UDP packets. There are two supported methods for configuring the modems remotely using a CSD call or using SMS messages. Please note that in some networks remote configuration is not possible using CSD when the modem is logged into the UMTS network. Using SMS messages The sequence of SMS messages to be sent to configure for GPRS mode are: ET-ILP=Port (Set the TCP port to Port.) ET-ISP=Your_Username,Your_Password ET-IAPN=+CGDCONT=1,"IP","APN_Name" (Set the APN name to APN_Name.) ET-IRC=1 (Set the modem to login to GPRS network.) ET&SR (Reboot the modem.) To get the signal strength from the modem by SMS: ETI or ETSEND=AT+CSQ Each message must be in a separate SMS and the commands are processed within 5 minutes. Using a CSD call Establish a connection using a CSD call with a terminal program such as Hyperterminal. The commands to configure for GPRS mode are: ET-ILP=Port (Set the TCP port to Port.) ET-ISP=Your_Username,Your_Password ET-IAPN=+CGDCONT=1,"IP","APN_Name" (Set the APN name to APN_Name.) ET-IRC=1 (Set the modem to login to GPRS network.) ET&SR (Reboot the modem) The command to request signal strength is: ETSEND=AT+CSQ D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

24/34 Workflow 5.3 Configuring the E550 meter RS232 port configuration MAP120 tree position The following E550 meter configuration is required when used together with an ETM MSM modem. The configuration can be set using the MAP120 Parameter Editor (make the settings and then download to the meter). ETM MSM modems are shipped with a default transmission rate of 9600 bit/s and so meter transmission rate should be set the same. If changes to baud rate is needed, this must be changed in both the modem and the meter. Communication Electrical Interface Electrical Interface 1 (Powered RS232) Modem reset configuration MAP120 tree position The transmission rate of the serial interface is configurable but all system validation has been performed at 9600 Baud. We do not recommend changing the transmission rate. It is possible for the meter and modem to operate at baud and baud. The modems are configured to be reset on a periodic basis. Landis+Gyr recommend a value of 24 hours. A value of 0 is not recommended for reliable operation of the modem. The reset occurs at 5:00 in the morning and is repeated based on this configuration parameter. Communication External Modem Configuration Modem Reset every Landis+Gyr D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note

Workflow 25/ Meter SMS configuration MAP120 tree position The meter can be configured to send SMS messages in certain product variants. During the meter factory configuration process, the Short Message System option must be selected. The AT command is AT+CMGS. Note that the phone number format may use an international format depending on SIM card configuration. SMS messages are not transmitted if the trigger occurs during a data transfer and because of this it is recommended that the number of repetitions be set to a value greater than 1 with repeat interval larger than the longest duration of data acquisition. Alerts Short Message System Antenna field strength measurement configuration MAP120 tree position In order for the antenna field strength to be available in the service menu of E550 meters, it has to be configured accordingly and thereafter the field strength can be checked using the display push button or the MAP110 Service Tool. Display and IEC Readout List Service List Entry "AntFStr Antenna Field Strength" must be selected under "General Display Object". D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

26/34 Workflow GPRS/CSD switching configuration MAP120 tree position The command needed to switch from GPRS to CSD (disconnecting from ISP) is ET-IDC. Switching from CSD to GPRS (connecting to ISP) is done by setting "with Reset". In addition, the GSM time window needs to be configured. 27 Workflow 27/ Configuring the CU of E650 meters The following CU configuration is required when using an E650 meter with CU-A5/+, CU-B1/+ or CU-B4/+ together with an ETM MSM modem. CU with + option The communication units must be ordered with the + option to provide flow control to ensure reliable operation RS232 port configuration MAP120 tree position The general configuration can be set using the MAP120 Parameter Editor (make the settings and then download to the CU). The following configuration of the CU works for both IEC and dlms. This has been tested with GPRS and GSM with the MSM modem ETM and ETM The RS232 port must be configured for DTE direct. This mode is designed for intelligent modem operation where the modem is responsible for handling incoming calls and maintaining an IP context. No further configuration for the port is required. The Clear To Send (CTS) option must be enabled to allow the modem to flow control the data. Data Terminal Ready (DTR) is not used. Channel 1: RS232 (optional: support of external modem) D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

28/34 Workflow It is also possible to use a RS232 port without flow control available on a RJ12 connector but it is only possible to do this for dlms communications. IEC protocol data readouts are not possible. Landis+Gyr D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note

Workflow 29/ Using the ETM MSM modem Modes of operation PIN code support The ETM MSM modem is ready to use when the SIM card is inserted and the configuration and installation (connection) is finished. The ETM MSM modem has two modes of operation: GSM CSD only (factory default) Fixed IP GPRS/UMTS and GSM CSD If the PIN code of the SIM is needed, the three green signal strength LEDs (see section 6 "LED display" will blink and the boot process is stopped. Enter AT+CPIN= 1234 (e.g. in the terminal section of ETM configuration software tool). As an alternative, the PIN can also be entered in the graphical user interface on tab "Main Init", "Miscellaneous" area, entry field "SIM PIN" (highlighted red in the screenshot below) is and then written back to the modem Checking the signal strength using the display push button (E550 only) The signal strength is displayed under the "Service Menu". A detailed description of the operation is included in the E550 User Manual. A summary is provided here. From the operating display, press the push button for less than two seconds to get the "display check" where all the LCD segments are lit. Press the reset key, labelled R, to enter the service menu. Press repeatedly the push button for less than 2 seconds until "AntFS" menu comes up. The ETM MSM modem must be powered up for at least three minutes until any attempts should be made to read the signal strength. This gives enough time for the modem to log into the mobile network. At the "AntFS" menu, it will display "AntFS Reading" while it measures the field strength. When value is determined, it will display the value which can range from 1 to 31, with 31 indicating a very strong signal. The "AntFS Reading" indication may last for up to one minute before a measured value is determined. D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

30/34 Workflow This translates to units of dbm according to the table below: Signal strength on display Signal strength in dbm 0 < -113 dbm dbm < Signal < -111 dbm dbm < Signal < -53 dbm dbm < Signal 99 Unknown or data not ready Measuring the signal strength remotely The signal strength can be read remotely by issuing an ETI command or ETSEND=AT+CSQ. This will give the reading in dbm or as displayed on the meter display. The command may be sent using an SMS message Measuring the signal strength using MAP110 The signal strength can be read using the optical head and the MAP110 tool. This is done using the diagnostic command called "GSM Installation Support". The resulting MAP110 output is shown below and the signal strength is shown in units of dbm (only information about the logged in cell is shown). 31 LED display 31/34 6 LED display The ETM MSM modems have six LEDs, arranged as follows on the modem board and visible through the transparent terminal cover or the CU-APD2 cover, respectively: Figure 8 Arrangement of LEDs (view through transparent terminal cover) 1-3 Green signal strength LEDs 4 Blue status LED 5 Yellow status LED 6 Green status LED Signal strength LEDs The 3 green signal strength LEDs indicate the current signal strength. The more LEDs are on, the higher the signal strength: All 3 LEDs dark = no signal or unknown signal strength One LED lit = weak signal strength Two LEDs lit = medium signal strength Three LEDs lit = strong signal strength Three LEDs blinking = system is waiting for user input, e.g. for PIN. Status LEDs All 3 LEDs dark = Class B CSD call connected Blue LED double blink = 3G, fixed IP Blue LED single blink = 3G but not logged onto ISP Yellow LED alight = GPRS connection established Green LED single blink every 3 seconds = CSD only mode Green LED double blink = 2G GPRS logged onto ISP Green LED flickering (and yellow LED alight) = data transmitted D en a Using E55C ETM MSM Modems Application Note Landis+Gyr

32/34 SIM cards 7 SIM cards The following is general information about the SIM cards and network services that are recommended for use with ETM MSM modems: SIM cards should be wide temperature range devices suitable for the operating environment for the life of the product. This will typically be temperature range between -25 C to +75 C operation and devices that are capable of at least 10 years of service life or 200K write cycles. Do not use SIM cards intended for consumer use. SIM cards for MSM modems ETM8120-2/3 should be activated for GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 and GSM 1900 operation. SIM cards for MSM modems ETM8130-2/3 should be activated for GSM 900 and GSM 1800 operation. For 3G networks, UMTS 900 and UMTS 2100 should also be enabled. Roaming should be disabled especially for deployments near the country or network borders. PIN should be disabled for easy deployment. GSM CSD (Circuit Switched Data) must be provisioned. This is needed for remote configuration and maintenance for firmware. SIM cards that provide only a GPRS service are not supported. Voice service must NOT be provisioned to deter theft of SIM cards. SMS sending and receiving services must be enabled. Private IP address space must be provisioned for the customer specific Access Point Name (APN).
