EMPOWER. MOTIVATE. INSPIRE. Professional Coach Certification Program
PROFESSIONAL COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM GREATER expectations Coaching is both art and science. Professional coaches understand how to communicate with clients in a way that gets real results. An effective coach guides, inspires and empowers others to help them reach their potential even if that potential has been hidden. Make a Difference We all hear what others say, but professional coaches know how to actively listen to clients, searching to identify barriers that hinder their success, and, in partnership, find practical solutions and strategies to put obstacles behind them. By building on the strengths and values, the coach seeks to support and encourage that individual to pursue paths that show the most promise. Coaching is a rewarding career that often leads to ongoing partnerships that help clients find the enrichment that has eluded them and enhance the quality of their personal and professional lives. Is Coaching for You? The Professional Coach Certification Program is designed in partnership with the International Coach Federation (ICF) for: managers and professionals hoping to enhance their organizational effectiveness and leadership skills internal trainers and organizational development professionals charged with training other managers and sharing their coaching expertise individuals, including near-retirees, seeking a new and rewarding career practicing coaches who want to earn or renew ICF certification or take their career to a higher level This program has helped to develop me into the leader that I wanted to be aware, inclusive, and empowering. I am using my coaching skills to be a better mom, wife, co-worker, and leader. Rebecca Lamperski Tri-State Senior Director of Sales, Comcast Spotlight
The Duquesne University Professional Coach Certification Program Duquesne University s School of Leadership and Professional Advancement has partnered with the International Coach Federation (ICF), the largest association of professional coaches, for this exciting program. It is the only university-based program in Pennsylvania accredited by the ICF. About the Coaching Profession Coaching is a growing career field. In 1998, when the profession was in its infancy, the ICF had fewer than 2,000 members, but its membership now exceeds 21,000 coaches representing over 92 countries. And as the profession grows in size, so does its stature. Coaches establishing a private practice help clients recognize the barriers to their success and help those clients systematically surmount the barriers. Whether the specialty is executive, health and fitness, time management, nonprofit, emotional intelligence, personal finance or other developmental areas, a certified coach can make a big difference in someone s life. And in return, the coach receives financial compensation and enormous satisfaction. It s a rewarding collaboration for client and coach alike. In a corporate setting, coaching is an essential executive skill that is recognized as one of the fundamental competencies that top leaders need to manage effectively. Coaching skills are key in today s multicultural and multigenerational organizations.
PROFESSIONAL COACH CERTIFICATION PROGRAM What Can You Expect? The skills learned in this program will enable you to coach people within your organization (internal coaching) or set up a private practice to help individuals seeking guidance (external coaching). In this program, students will: Understand and articulate the unique purpose of coaching and the coaching relationship; Understand and apply the Duquesne coaching model and the core assumptions of coaching; Demonstrate competency in the primary coaching skills; Demonstrate proficiency in developing trust and intimacy in a coaching relationship; Be skillful in maintaining professional ethics and standards; Be practiced in applying self-awareness and self-knowledge in the context of the coaching process; Develop a vision and plan for putting coaching skills into practice and growing as a professional coach; Explore current coaching research and professional development opportunities Upon successful completion, students earn a certification from Duquesne (PC). They also have the option of earning an ICF ACC or PCC credential depending on the number of coaching clients and accrued coaching hours. Program Format This program is accredited by the ICF as an Approved Coach Training Program (ACTP) for 144 hours. The program includes: Module Two: Discovery In Module Two, you will further the selfawareness you began in Module One and explore the myriad ways to build the selfawareness of your clients. You will learn how to be present with emotions (your clients and your own), how to incorporate assessments into your coaching, and help your clients identify what motivates them. You will build on the foundation of specific coaching skills as you learn to move your clients powerfully toward their most authentic, resonant, and fulfilling lives. Module Three: Possibilities In this Module, you will coach your clients to expand the possibilities before them, by examining and widening their perspectives, attitudes, and options. As you engage with your clients and they learn more about themselves and their deeply held desires and dreams, roadblocks will also appear. You will learn how to recognize the voices behind the roadblocks and how to honor them. And you ll learn many ways to cut through, tear down, and reduce the impact of limiting beliefs that want you to stay right where you are. Module Four: Action The Action Module focuses on the essential component of coaching what occurs in the lives of clients between coaching sessions. In this Module, you will move your clients forward by coaching them to set goals, take actions, and assume accountability. At the same time, in this learning-by-doing Module, you will personally engage with your instructors and colleagues about your own values, strengths, and visions for how to move forward in your life and the actions you Module One: Context In Module One, you ll learn the Duquesne Coaching Model, discover new aspects of yourself and your skills, set personal goals, and create a vision for yourself. You ll begin to practice applying your new-found skills immediately in the classroom, with your colleagues, and with practice clients.
If your interest is to become a coach and to have a powerful coaching experience, this is the best option you have. In addition to the high-quality education, you will have an experience that will inspire you to achieve a more resonant life. Antonio F. Calaf, Director of Quality & Sterility Assurance Medical Device Manufacturer choose as you offer your gift of coaching in the world, whether by building a business, using your coaching skills in your current position, or simply incorporating coaching skills into your most important relationships. Module Five: Expansion In Module Five, we arrive back at the purpose of coaching: an authentic, resonant, and fulfilling life. In this Module you will learn to choose among all the skills, strategies, ways of being, and beliefs you have learned and uncovered, to create truly transformative growth in your clients. While fine-tuning the application and integration of your coaching skills, you will explore what is next to foster your own learning and inspire your own personal action. We will examine the current state of the coaching profession, explore multiple coaching resources, and contemplate the potential power of coaching to change the world. Module Six: Supervision The Supervision Module is perhaps the most powerful part of the Duquesne Coaching Program. It all comes together in this module, in which you coach real clients, record your coaching, and receive direct and specific feedback from your instructors. These sessions are where your excellence shines through as you polish your coaching and truly create your own unique style. Module Seven: Electives Module Seven provides you with opportunities to learn some specific aspects of coaching, more about a specific niche, or more about building a coaching business. You ll pick and choose which electives will complete your learning in the program. Module Eight: Capstone In Capstone, you will celebrate your journey and display your developing skills! You will complete a written exam and an oral exam, and share your personal plan for using your coaching skills out in the world. While there are tests in this module, we know you will be ready, and it truly will be a celebration of how far you have come during the program. Read more detailed program information at Going Further in Your Coaching Career The International Coach Federation (ICF) is the foremost accrediting body and professional networking organization for career coaches. It is the largest worldwide resource for professional coaches, and the source for those who are seeking a coach. The ICF is a nonprofit, individual membership organization formed by professionals worldwide who practice as professional coaches. Participants completing the program are certified to enter the field of professional coaching. Additionally, because you will have completed this Approved Coach Training Program (ACTP), you will have sufficient training hours to apply for an optional credential through the ICF (ACC or PCC). The level of credential will depend on the number of coaching clients and how many documented coaching hours have been accumulated. For details concerning the specific training and coaching experience requirements for these credentials, please see the Credentials section on the ICF website:
