Instructors of the education* program include a certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian.

5 The Meriter Diabetes Self Management Education Program has been Recognized by the American Diabetes Association for Quality Self-Management Education*. Birthing Center and Antepartum/Post Partum Units The Maternal Fetal Medicine Program provides inpatient Level III obstetric care for antepartum, intrapartum and postpartum patients. Maternal transports by ground or air are accepted by the attending maternal fetal medicine specialists 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Newborn Intensive Care Services The neonatal team University of Wisconsin boardcertified neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, hospitalists, nurses, nutritionists, pharmacists, lactation consultants, and social workers along with physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapists. The team cares for more than 450 premature and/or ill infants each year. The team shares a commitment to transferring infants back to their community hospitals when they have made sufficient progress.

6 The 30-bed, tertiary-care Newborn Intensive Care Unit offers a comprehensive spectrum of pediatric and surgical sub-specialties. The NICU is supported by state-of-the-art facilities for resuscitation of the high-risk infant, and by a Neonatal Simulation Center that is used for optimizing provider training in the skills applied in neonatal resuscitation. Family-centered care is provided in private single-family rooms. The UW Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Reproductive Sciences Division, the UW Department of Pediatrics and Division of Neonatology, the Waisman Center, and the Center for Perinatal Care are nationally and internationally recognized for participation in research in maternal, fetal and neonatal physiology and disorders. New Era In Neonatal Follow-Up We are pleased to introduce our partnership with the UW Department of Pediatrics and the Waisman Center, an internationally recognized center for the advancement of knowledge about human development, developmental disabilities. Qualifying infants who graduate from the Meriter NICU will be enrolled in a new NICU follow-up clinic based at the Waisman Center where they will have developmental screening and support for complications of prematurity and other disorders of the high-risk infant.
