3 Eligible Researchers Types of Researchers: 1. Early Stage Researchers (ESR) Research experience 4 years No PhD Duration of appointment: 3-36 months (typical appointment is 36 months) 2. Experienced Researchers (ER) still in their early career PhD or at least 4 years of research experience Duration of appointment: 3-24 months NB: total research experience 5 years

4 5 Years Experience: Initial Training Networks are limited to researchers in the first 5 years of their career at the time of recruitment. No longer eligible Diploma granting access to doctorate studies Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 If PhD Year 6 Early Stage Researchers First 4 years of their career have not yet obtained a PhD Experienced Researchers A PhD or at least 4 years full time research experience Experience is calculated at date of appointment

5 Nationality rule: Researchers can be nationals of any country. Mobility rule: Researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of their host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Short stays, such as holidays, are not taken into account. Exceptions: international organisations: CERN; ESRF; etc. For eligibility examples, please refer to the Guide for Applicants 2010

7 Vacancies published internationally EURAXESS, press, websites, internet, conferences, mobility portals, etc: eligible costs after start date Equal opportunities policy Full-time employment Employment contracts Selection procedures Conforms to the Code of Conduct for Recruitment of Researchers Researchers made aware of Marie Curie network, rights & duties, appointment conditions, etc.

12 Marie Curie Fellows Employed Marie Curie Fellows should have: Pension, full social security, maternity leave etc... Researchers made aware that they are Marie Curie Fellows and of their rights and obligations Researchers Z-card distributed to fellows at the beginning of their contract:

13 Allowances for the benefit of the fellow: Paid regularly: based on the principle of monthly payments Living Allowance Fixed amount specified in Work Programme 2010, adjusted for country of host institution Mobility Allowance Fixed amount depending on family status at date of recruitment, adjusted for country of host institution Travel Allowance Fixed amount specified in Work Programme 2010, depending upon distance from location of origin to host institute

14 Agreement between the fellow and the institution Article III.4 Salary: Living, mobility and travel allowances Payment arrangements Any deductions Conditions of work Description of the research project Signed by both parties Does not need to be sent to the REA Declaration on Conformity submitted through SESAM (presentation later today) Signed Original to be sent to the REA just after each recruitment - MANDATORY!

15 Career Development Personal Career Development Plan (agreed between the fellow and the supervisor) Short and long-term development goals Training needs including complementary skills Scientific objectives Career Exploratory Allowance Fixed amount of 2000 For each researcher with a stay of at least one year

16 Complementary Training Career appropriate skills For example: Communication, IPR, Ethics, Grant writing, Commercial exploitation of results, Research Policy, entrepreneurship, language classes, etc Conference and workshop attendance Eligible costs, not to be charged to the researchers
