ACADEMIC PROPOSAL PERSONAL, CULTURAL AND ACADEMIC OBJECTIVES FOR YOUR STUDENTS: Academic Competence: ü Improve and perfect communicative competence in Spanish through a total immersion context with local people while Spanish is acquired through interesting topics and experiences. ü Be part of a high quality academic program obtaining the Certificate of Spanish as a foreign Language issued by the largest Spanish University. ü Obtain an important linguistic acquisition whilst living a great cultural experience. 4 1. ACADEMIC PROPOSAL School Choice Active Learning 9.30 TO Spanish lessons aimed to acquire and reinforce Spanish skills as well as motivate students through an interesting and enjoyable approach. Communicative skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) will be always integrated in each activity having a continuous grammatical support. Activities will be designed in the line of this communicative approach. Take the following set of activities as example: HISPANIC WORLD: Short texts about famous people (Picasso, Cervantes, Messi, Shakira). SPANISH SONGS to practice vocabulary and grammatical structures. CULTURAL ONLINE BOARD: Blog where they tell what it impresses them more in this city, talk about their experiences and show pictures. ROLE PLAYS: Drama games where they need to act in Spanish and invent dialogues following some scenarios previously given. VOCABULARY GAMES to support the Experiencias TSE activities in the evening. 4

ACADEMIC PROPOSAL Afternoons The afternoons will be spent in our EXPERIENCIAS TSE allowing the student to share, communicate and generally co-exist with people of all ages from the city of Cuenca. These activities are designed from attractive contents that will enrich the student knowledge while Spanish is used for what it really is, as a tool for communication. There will be a great choice of Experiencias TSE available to choose, like adventure activities or photography workshops: Adventure activities Football Camps These activities will be held in the evenings and will give international students the opportunity to merge and enjoy with local teens. Discovering the art and technique of Photography and living the great emotion of the adventure activities with be the perfect scenario for a total immersion. Photography workshop Cooking workshop 5

8 PROGRAM ² BENEFITS FOR ACCOMPANYING TEACHERS: From 8 students, the accompanying teacher will have free room and full board in homestay or free room in a shared apartment. ² TRANSFER FROM MADRID AIRPORT There is a transfer service from Madrid Airport to the accommodation in Cuenca as well as from Cuenca to Madrid Airport with an extra fee ACCOMMODATION: Homestay in Spanish families with full board ( 3 meals per day) Life within a Spanish family carefully selected by the Council Hall (special hosting families program for international students). 9 OPTIONAL TRIPS Madrid Culture This weekend will drive the students into the most significant places of Madrid, enjoying the majestic monument and streets, living the multiculturalism of the city.( OPTIONS: 1 DAY OR 2 DAYS) DAY Departure from Cuenca to Madrid, check in the hotel in Madrid a visit around Madrid and lunch in a restaurant Visit to Plaza Mayor, one of the most typical locations in Madrid, surrounded by great shops where the students will have time to buy Spanish clothes and souvenirs. Students will have the opportunity also to visit a flamenco show and have dinner in one Taberna madrileña. DAY Walk to the Royal Palace and Sabatini Gardens in the heart of Madrid. CUENCA, THE TRUE SPANISH EXPERIENCE ² THE CITY OF CUENCA Cuenca, in the heart of Castilla-La Mancha, is the cradle of the Castilian language and of the famous Don Quijote, and is situated in a privileged position mid way between Madrid (50 min from Madrid) and Valencia (1 hour). In 1996 it was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, for its wealth of art and culture and for the impressive natural and ecological enclave of the Serranía de Cuenca (also awarded the denomination of Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2007). Above all it is the people of Cuenca (60,000 inhabitants) who make this city a warm, welcoming and safe place to study in and, especially, to live an authentically Spanish experience. ² A WHOLE CITY INVOLVED Cuenca, The True Spanish Experience is promoted by local and regional government with all the institutions and educational centres of the city. Your Friend in Cuenca : you will have the chance to meet Spanish people as well as doing activities with them Experience Card This card is given to each student on the first day and serves as your Cuenca Citizen card throughout the duration of your stay. This means that students from any of the programmes of True Spanish Experience will be truly immersed and be a part of our city exactly as if they had been born here. You will be able to use the city s facilities just as if you were from Cuenca (go to the museums, libraries, swimming pools, theatres, sports centres, use public transport etc) as well as discounts in bars, restaurants and shops, beauty salons and spa, theatre shows etc. 16
