1 Lew Abrams Trish Attia Lew Abrams, LCSW and Trish Attia, PhD, LCSW have designed a three hour workshop intended to give attendees an overview of couple s therapy with a sex addicted spouse. Dr. Attia will describe techniques from Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples an attachment based couples therapy methodology. Specific issues of betrayal, fear of relapse and early attachment styles will be discussed. There will be opportunity for attendees to review case studies and role-play specific dilemmas. Lew Abrams will define sex addiction, the stages of recovery for the partner, the role of the spouse, when (and if) disclosure is indicated and the process of healing. Participants will be able to define sex addiction Participants will be able to identify the stages of recovery for sex addiction Participants will understand when disclosure is therapeutically indicated Participants will understand the unique issues of the couple impacted by SA Participants will understand the stages of Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples Participants will realize the three major changes in EFT: de-escalation of the negative cycle, withdrawer re-engagement, and pursuer softening.

ABRAMS, ACSW, LCSW, CASAC Licensed Clinical Social Worker Offering Specialized Psychotherapy Bio For the past 33 years, Lew Abrams has been treating those afflicted with addictions and mental health challenges including adolescents, adults, couples and families. He has created and directed programs at all levels of care including traditional outpatient, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and residential services throughout New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Mr. Abrams was the Clinical Director of Marworth Treatment Center ( ), a nationally recognized system of addiction treatment services located outside of Scranton, Pa. From 2002 through 2007, Lew directed the Yatzkan Center, a not for profit residential long-term rehabilitation program for Jewish adolescents with substance abuse and emotional/behavior problems. As the Executive Director, he developed the program, increased the quality of treatment and assisted in excess of 200 families, from all over the world. Currently, Lew is in the process of obtaining a certification in sex addiction treatment. In addition to addiction treatment, Mr. Abrams has specialized training in clinical supervision, group therapy, psychodrama, family therapy, and experiential techniques including anger discharge and grief work. He is a graduate of the Columbia University School of Social Work (1980). Currently, Mr. Abrams has a full-time private practice serving individuals (adults and adolescents), couples and families. Offices are located in Manhattan and New Jersey. Lew has written numerous articles regarding substance abuse and mental health topics including Yiddishkeit and Substance Abuse Treatment: Recovery and Renewed Spirituality.
