3 Opening Flag Ceremony Script: The scouts start at the rear, holding the flags. The US Flag is on the right, the Pack flag on the far left. Leader: "Color Guard, Attention!" Leader: "Will the audience please rise." Leader: "Scout Salute!" (Wait for color guard to reach the front) Leader: "Color Guard, Post the Colors!" (US Flag crosses in front, then the pack flag. Wait for flag bearers to move to the flag pole stands) Leader: "Will the audience please join me in the Pledge of Allegiance." (Lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance) Leader: "TWO!" (Everyone drops salute) Leader: "Color Guard, return to ranks!" (Wait for flag bearers return to formation) Leader: "Color Guard, About Face!" (Wait for color guard to reach the back) Leader: "Color Guard, Dismissed!" Leader: "Audience, Please be seated!" Page 3 of 6 Last Updated: 07/29/09

4 Closing Flag Ceremony Leader assembles color guard in back of room or offstage so they are ready. You may only have flag bearers, 2 or 3 scouts following, 2 in front and 2 behind, or any crisp formation depending on number of scouts in color guard. Leader: "Color Guard, Attention!" Leader: "Will the audience please rise." (Wait for color guard to reach the front) Leader: "Scout Salute!" Leader: "Color Guard, Retrieve the Colors!" (Wait for flag bearers to pick up their flags) Leader: "Color Guard, Return to Ranks!" (Wait for flag bearers to return to formation) (US Flag is on the far right facing the audience, the pack flag on far left.) Leader: "Color Guard, About Face!" (Wait until color guard reaches back of room) Leader: "TWO!" (Everyone drops salute.) Leader: "Audience, Thank you for joining us." Leader: "Color Guard, Dismissed!" 5 Bobcat Ceremony CA and CC help parents with face painting CM reads ceremony CM Tonight scouts, once again we have a special event planned for some of our newest members. The first badge a Cub Scout earns is the Bobcat. While it is the most common badge, it is also the most special. I remember when I earned the Bobcat badge... CM: Tonight it is our pleasure to welcome all of you to the fellowship of Cub Scout Pack 99. As I call your name, please come forward with your parents. CM: Scouts, with the help of your parents, you have passed the first test of Cub Scouting. You have attained the rank of Bobcat. I will now ask your parents to assist in the ceremony that recognizes your accomplishment. (Pass out paints to parents and/or assisting leaders). CM: The blue is from the sky. The blue paw print of the Bobcat on your forehead is the spirit of the bobcat, and to remind you to do your best on the Cub Scout Trail. CM: The yellow is from the sun. The yellow marks under your eyes will help you see the light of the Cub Scout Trail, and symbolize the bright spirit of Cub Scouting. CM: The white on your nose is for purity and to help you know right from wrong as you go along the Cub Scout Trail. CM: The red mark on your chin is for courage to always speak the truth. CM: Finally, the green mark on each cheek symbolizes the spirit of nature to guide the Cub Scout in living in harmony with the great outdoors. CM: Remember your marks of the evening, Bobcats. Have fun along the Cub Scout Trail. Parents, will you present this Bobcat badge to your son, marking this first award milestone in scouting? This will be your privilege throughout your son s Cub Scout career. Parents, please pin the badge on your son upside down. Scouts, you can turn the badge right-side-up when you do a good deed. CM: Will all parents in the audience please stand and join these new Cub Scout parents in the Parent's Participation Promise, please repeat after me... We, the parents of a Cub Scout, Promise to assist our son in earning his Cub Scout badges, We will be faithful in our attendance at Pack meetings, And assist in every way possible, As we assist our son to do his best. 6 I Am Your Flag Presenting den quietly approaches the flags two by two. The flags are already placed at the front of the audience. (SCOUT #1) I was born June 14, I am more than just cloth shaped into a design. I am the refuge of the world's oppressed people. I am the silent sentinel of Freedom. I am the emblem of the greatest sovereign nation on earth. (SCOUT #2) I am the inspiration for which American patriots gave their lives and fortunes. I have led your sons into battle from Valley Forge to the mountains of Afghanistan and deserts of Iraq. I walk in silence with each of your Honored Dead to their final resting place beneath silent white crosses, row upon row. (SCOUT #3) I have flown through peace and war, strife and prosperity, and amidst it all I have been respected. My red stripes symbolize the blood spilled in defense of this glorious Nation. My white stripes signify the burning tears shed by Americans who lost their sons... My blue field is indicative of God's heaven, under which I fly. (SCOUT #4) My stars, clustered together, unify 50 states as one, for God and Country. "Old Glory" is my nickname, and proudly I wave on high. (SCOUT #5) Honor me, respect me, defend me with your lives and fortunes. Never let my enemies tear me down from my lofty position, lest I never return. Keep alight the fires of patriotism: strive earnestly for the spirit of democracy. Worship Eternal God, and keep His Commandments: and I shall remain the bulwark of peace and freedom for all mankind. I AM YOUR FLAG. (SCOUT #6- DENNER) Audience, please rise and remove all non-scouting or non-military hats. Scout Salute! Please Join me in the Pledge of Allegiance. Two! Please Be Seated. Thank you.
