5 Studying in Germany - Costs Tuition fees No general tuition fees at public universities, but fees may be charged for some Master programs (e.g.llm) Semester contribution of up to 200 per semester (administrative costs, student union contribution for student dining, sports, cultural events and a semester ticket) Private universities/business schools do charge tuition fees. Europarecht. Schwerpunktstudium: Vertiefte Ausbildung in einem von mehreren angebotenen Schwerpunktbereichen nach Wahl der Studierenden Fachbezogene Fremdsprache(n) mindestens eine Fremdsprache mit Fachbezug; Schlüsselqualifikationen Kompetenzen außerhalb des Fachstudiums; z.b. German universities offer international degrees: - Bachelor - Master - Doctorate Exception Staatsexamen (state examination) in the following subjects: Medicine (Human & Vet), Law, Pharmacy Mutual recognition of degrees between Taiwan and Germany! 14 Studying in Germany Language requirements Studying in Germany Page 14 Courses taught in German: TestDaF or DSH, (required level differs between unis and courses) Courses: taught in English: IELTS or TOEFL (required level differs between unis and courses) TestDaF (Test of German as a Foreign Language) 2 times a year (November, April) in Taipei, Kaohsiung) DSH (only in Germany, administered by German universities Most universities require 4x4 in TestDaF or DSH 2; requirements for law can be higher (5x5 in TestDaF ~ level C2)

International Programs in Law More and more universities offer LL.M. programs in German Law for Foreign Graduates (taught in German) e.g. in Regensburg, Freiburg, Heidelberg, Berlin, Passau The Master's degree in German Law for foreign graduates is a research-focused degree that imparts professional legal expertise and allows you to develop your legal skills Required level of German: B2 Studying in Germany Page 18

21 Studying in Germany Application process Depending on the institution and your country of origin, there are two ways to apply for admission to a German university: In most cases: Direct application to the university Application through uni-assist (a service centre for German universities) service fees apply Application deadlines mostly 15 January, 15 July, but attention: deadlines may vary!!! Visa application with the Deutsche Institut ( 在台協會 ) in Taipei even before receiving offer from university (approx 6 weeks) Studying in Germany Page 21
