1 2016 Application Guide Shanghai University Applicable Programs As one of the key universities directly under the Ministry of Education of China, SHU has been appointed to accept international students either with Chinese Government (hereinafter referred to as CSC) or Shanghai Government (hereinafter referred to as SGS). Each year, SHU accepts over 150 government scholarship students from all over the world to pursue undergraduate (bachelor s) or postgraduate (master s or doctoral) degrees or study as visiting scholars in undergraduate or postgraduate programs. In case you fail in receiving the scholarship, with this Pre- admission Notice, you will have chance to study at SHU as a self- funded student (you need to contact SHU before Jun. 30 for this issue). 4 China * Schooling & Duration: (1) Master s degree programs: 2 to 3 years (can be extended for 1- year Chinese language study) (2) Doctoral degree programs: 3 to 4 years (can be extended for 1- year Chinese language study) The actual scholarship duration is subject to the information on Admission Notice, which cannot be extended in general. * When to Apply: from present to March 31, 2016 (fall intake only) * Applicant Eligibility: (1) Be a non- Chinese citizen in good health. (2) Not be an enrolled degree student in Chinese universities at the time of application. (3) Be a master s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs. (4) Be a bachelor s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master s programs. (Notarized in English or Chinese.) o Transcript of Study Records of the Most Advanced Studies (Notarized Photocopy). o Language Certificate: u HSK certificate photocopy (For Chinese delivered program) u TOFEL or IETLS test certificate photocopy (For English delivered program) o Study Plan or Research Proposal o Examples of Artworks (6 color pictures) or Music Work (1 audio tape) (Only for the applicants applying for Fine Arts and Music). o Other Attachments (A List Is Needed). * Application Procedures

6 Step1: Please apply online and download the application form. Step2: Prepare the whole set of your application materials and send them to the contact at SHU & post them to the following address: Shuyang CAO Admission & Program Development Office, College of International Exchange, Shanghai University No 149 Yanchang Road, , Shanghai E- mail: (for SGS); CSC) Step 3: Shanghai University will publish the result of CSC (Chinese University Program) & SGS candidates on our official website and inform the final candidates for confirmation through E- mail in mid- May (CSC) and mid- June (SGS). Step 4: All the candidates who are rewarded (Chinese University Program) & Shanghai Government will receive the Admission Notice and Visa application form (JW202 form) from SHU to apply for student visa to enter China. Tips v v v We don t charge registration fee for scholarship application, but please cherish the opportunity if you are luckily chosen as our final candidates. Please make your application documents reader- friendly because that would be the first impression you left for us. In order to increase your opportunity to study at SHU, we strongly recommend you to try to contact some professors of relevant major first. If they recognize your academic background and ability, they will issue an acceptance letter if they agree to be your supervisor for your further study at SHU.
