1 Lesson: The Ghost in the Attic Lesson Topic: Who You Gonna Call? Ghost Hunters! Who You Gonna Call? Ghost Hunters! Written by Peter Rhomberg You are all alone in a dark house watching TV. Your parents went out to pick up some groceries. Creeeeeeeek. You startle. Was that the stairs creaking? Is there someone else in the house with you? You turn on all the lights and slowly begin to investigate. There is nothing there. Maybe it was a ghost! Is someone there with you?
2 A ghost hunter uses a special tool to search for ghosts. People have been telling ghost stories for thousands of years. Today, many people do not believe in ghosts. They think there is a scientific explanation for ghosts. Other people think they can find and record ghosts using high-tech devices like night vision cameras and special thermometers. These people are called paranormal investigators, but most people call them ghost hunters. Most scientists say that paranormal investigators are just making things up. So far, there is no scientific proof for the existence of ghosts, but that doesn't stop the ghost hunters from exploring haunted houses and searching for signs of ghosts. Paranormal investigators look for things that are out of the ordinary. Cold spots in houses, unexplained radiation, blurry shapes that appear in pictures, or strange noises are all things a ghost hunter might look for on their quest to prove that ghosts are real. A strange fog appeared in this photo. Ghost hunting has become a popular topic of TV shows and movies. Movies like Ghostbusters and TV shows like Scooby Doo poke fun at paranormal investigators. Other shows, like Ghost Hunters, follow real life teams of paranormal investigators as they explore haunted buildings. A ghost hunter looks for signs of paranormal activity. So, was that creaking on your stairs a ghost, or did you just think you heard something? There's only one way to find out - call a team of ghost hunters!
3 Question 1: What do you call people who look for ghosts? ghost busters ghost buddies paranormal investigators paranoid investigators Question 2: What is something that paranormal investigators do NOT look for as evidence of ghosts? people with strange names blurry shapes that appear in pictures cold spots in houses strange noises Question 3: What is the main idea of this article? Paranormal investigators look for ghosts to prove that they are real. Anyone who believes in ghosts is strange. Ghost stories make the best kind of campfire tales. Ghost hunting is very common in movies and television shows. Question 4: What is the connection between scientific proof and the existence of ghosts? There is scientific proof that ghosts exist but the government is trying to keep people from knowing. There is scientific proof that ghosts exist but it has not yet been put into science textbooks. There is overwhelming scientific proof that ghosts exist and are living among us. There is no scientific proof that ghosts exist.
4 Question 5: Read this sentence. You turn on all the lights and slowly begin to investigate. What does the word investigate mean? to have a panic attack to run around the room in circles to scream in terror to study and search in order to find out what's going on Question 6: How does the article tell us that ghost hunting is popular in storytelling? Paranormal investigators look for things that are out of the ordinary. Most scientists say that paranormal investigators are just making things up. Today, many people do not believe in ghosts. Paranormal investigators use a compass to find their way through a place where there might be ghosts. Paranormal investigators use special tools to look for ghosts. Paranormal investigators like to make phone calls while ghost hunting so that they are not alone. Question 8: Read this paragraph. So, was that creaking on your stairs a ghost, or did you just think you heard something? There's only one way to find out - call a team of ghost hunters! How do you think the author feels about the existence of ghosts? The author does not think that ghosts exist, and he thinks that anyone who does is weird. The author is open to the possibility that ghosts exist, but will not think so until there is proof. The author thinks that ghosts exist and that the government is hiding the proof that they do. 6 Question 9: Alice and Peter from "The Ghost in the Attic" look for a ghost in their grandma's home. Suppose that Alice and Peter had called a team of paranormal investigators. How do you think the team would have reacted when they finally met the "ghost"? The team would have had to vanquish the ghost because it possessed Peter. The team would have celebrated for finally finding a real ghost. The team would have run away in fright because the ghost could pick up objects and use them as weapons. The team would have felt silly as the "ghost" was only a cat. Question 10: The author tells us that investigators sometimes look for strange things in pictures.
