1 Frequently asked TD Questions If a player withdraws from a tournament after the online deadline, no entry fee is required to be returned Head tax is applicable for each player in the draw. Juniors-$1 per singles events and $1 per doubles team. Adults-$2 per singles event and $2 per doubles team. After the draw is published, do NOT remove a player from the draw, main or consolation, unless an online generated alternate is available. Tournament canceled notify NCTA as soon as the decision is made. S & S will be notified. Cancelation may be a reason future sanctions are not approved. A Tournament Committee of at least 3 persons shall be appointed. The TD & Referee shall be members. Court Surface-the tournament committee shall not schedule any division on more than one type of surface. Does not apply when there is inclement weather. The Referee or Deputy Referee makes the draw using TDM. Approval of draw before it is published is permissible. The Referee or the Deputy Referee must be present at all times when play is in progress

2 A minimum of one roving umpire per 8 courts is recommended. TDM corrections correct your TDM. If the tournament has already calculated into the standings, the correction will not be changed in the player record or standings list until the next update. TDM default codes- all defaults must have a reason listed. a. Withdrawals occur before the first match played or during the warm-up for the first match in an event. b. Walkovers occur when a player has completed a match in an event and is not able to start the next match in that event. c. Retirements occur when a player is not able to continue playing a match after it has started. d. Defaults occur when a player is not allowed by the referee to begin or continue a match or refuses to play for other than a bona fide reason. Adult Discipline is treated as DEFAULTS if the match has not started & as RETIREMENTS if the match has started. Defaults, withdrawals, walkovers- the advancing player will earn points for the round. No points for a BYE Default/Withdrawal/Retirement report in TDM must be signed by the referee & TD & mailed with head tax to the NCTA Office

In Junior play a pro set may only be used in doubles ( 8 game pro set with a 7 point tiebreak(set) at 8 games all) b. No-ad scoring may be used in singles or doubles, Junior or Adult, as determined by the referee. c. 10-point match tie-break in lieu of the third set may be used in all NC sanctioned tournaments as determined by the referee. However, Adult/Sr., & NTRP tournaments must advertise the used of this format in the entry form & publish the format online in tournament info. How to write a match tie-break score: 6-2,5-7, 1-0(8) d. Match play for the boy & girl 12 s will consist of 2 out of 3 sets, with the third set being a 10 point match tie break. e. Adult Age division & NTRP ONE DAY TOURNAMENTS (QUICK PLAY) may use short setsfirst to 4 games by 2. 2 out of 3 tiebreak sets. 7 point set tiebreak at 4-4. Match tiebreak (10 point). Singles & doubles. Or an 8 game pro set with a 7 point tie-break (set) at 8 games all may be used. Inclement scoring options for all adult tournaments- singles & doubles. Short sets (to 4 games by 2 games) or an 8 game pro set with a 7 point set tiebreak at 8-8.

5 Junior L1, L2, L3, L4, L5 may use short set scoring ONLY when granted permission on a case by case basis by the NCTA in the event of inclement weather. Use short sets- first to 4 games by 2. 2 out of 3 tiebreak sets. 7 point set tiebreak at 4-4. Match tiebreak (10 point) L5 junior Futures Tournaments may play two out of three short sets with a match tiebreak (10 points)in lieu of the third set for singles as long as this is a one day event & this format is stated on the website no later than the first day of the month preceding the tournament. For 10 & Under Tournaments: 8 & Under o Best of 3 games (1 ST to 7 points wins game), first to win 2 games is winner 10 & Under o Singles shall be the best of 2 short sets (first to 4 and win by 2), with a set tiebreak (first to seven (7) and win by two (2) at 4-4 in each set, and a set tiebreak (first to 7 and win by 2) for the third set. o o o Ad scoring Doubles matches for 10 and under tournament play shall consist of a regular six (6) game set with a set tiebreak first to seven (7) and win by 2) at 6-6. In case of inclement weather, singles play shall consist of one regular six (6) game set with a set tiebreak (first to seven (7) and win by 2) at 6-6.

6 Closed : Any person who is a resident of, and domiciled in, the State of North Carolina for at least thirty (30) days prior to the first day of the tournament and who during the current ranking year has not entered a closed tournament in any other USTA District (State) or any Section other than the Southern Section of USTA. The entrants for all Adult/Senior, NTRP, Wheelchair and Family State Closed tournaments must meet the following criteria: a. Must be a US Citizen or meet the resident alien requirements b. Hold only one USTA membership card, residency for which must be NC c. Players may not play in State Closed tournaments of other states (districts) or Sections of the USTA if they play in a NC State Closed. College students who live in another state or country must meet requirements #2 and #3. Junior/Adult/NTRP Standings List- TD s are encouraged to use the most recent update of this list when the seedings are made and use the NC seeding criteria. L5 Eligibility o

7 Hours & Rest Guidelines for Juniors a. Players in the 10 s, 12 s, 14 s should not start a match nor resume a suspended match after 8:00 PM. Players in the 16 s 18 s should not start a match nor resume a suspended match after 10:00PM. b. A Junior player shall be entitled to at least a one-hour rest period between all singles matches in the same age division, 30 minutes for doubles, 30 minutes minimum for a match tiebreak format, 15 minute minimum for short sets. EXCEPTION, 10 s shall have a one-hour rest period between all singles matches c. In the event of inclement weather, the tournament referee shall have the right to depart from these rules if necessary to complete the tournament within the tournament dates. Consolation (FMLC or FIC) or Round Robin or Doubles is required in all Junior events. NTRP tournaments must include on their published tournament web information & in the tournament entry form if the event is ADULT ONLY (18 & older) or OPEN AGE. It is up to the individual tournament director if a junior (one who has not reached the age of 18 years prior to or during this calendar year) is allowed to play in his/her tournament. It must be stated clearly in the entry blank & in the online information at Under 18 may not play in the NTRP State Closed tournaments NTRP tournaments can check ratings online. The box in the OLSF which states, check player ratings should be checked.

8 NTRP Ratings for Tournament Play a. May participate at a higher level of play than ones latest NTRP rating, but never lower. For doubles, the team must play at the level of the higher rated partner. Doubles & Mixed Doubles points will be ranked individually. b. Players with a current rating from the USTA League Tennis NTRP Computer Ratings are required to compete at that level or higher for the entire calendar Year. Players without a NTRP rating must self rate online before entering the tournament. c. Any player disqualified from playing a NTRP level in the USA League Tennis Program is also disqualified from playing that level in NTRP tournaments for the remainder of the year. The newly defined level shall be considered the most current NTRP computer rating for tournament competition. d. A player may play at the level indicated by one s current NTRP Computer rating even though playing on a USA League team at a higher level. e. NTRP tournaments do NOT count toward a players rating. f. At the discretion of the NTRP State Closed Tournaments, players may be limited to two events (1 singles and 1 doubles or two doubles- one being mixed). NO player under 18 may play the NTRP State Closed

9 Adult Consolation procedures. The TDM scheduled draw must be used. If a player notifies the TD immediately after a loss in the main draw that he will not participate in the consolation, the match will be recorded as a Walkover on the draw sheet. Otherwise, he is still in the event & the default rules apply. Adult & NTRP UNEXCUSED DEFAULTS All players who enter a tournament are expected to play all scheduled matches unless the player withdraws prior to the beginning of the tournament. Any unexcused default, whether in the main draw or consolation rounds, will result in the removal of any ranking points including participation points received in the tournament. Players in the Adult State Closed Tournaments must be allowed to enter 1 singles and 2 doubles events. Doubles is defined as age group or mixed.

10 The Adult Competition Committee strongly recommends Adult/Senior tournaments seed players using the following guidelines: 1. Appoint a seeding committee 2. Use the most current National standings 3. Use the most current Southern standings 4. Use the most current NC standings 5. Use the NC final rankings 6 The tournament retains the right to adjust if necessary. Tournaments may not be rescheduled.the tournament is over once the sanction dates end. Matches may NOT be extended beyond the sanction dates.
