1 Date: Teacher(s): Quiana and Kelly Classroom: Kindergarten Prep Science Rocks Investigate Properties We did a color study about yellow paint. We labeled plastic cups with numerals 1 to 6. The teacher poured 1\4 cup of yellow paint in each cup. We set one cup aside and started with cup 2 adding 1 teaspoon of while paint and mixing it together. We continued this manner adding additional spoonful of white to each consecutive cup increasing the amount of white paint. The children noticed as we added more paint the yellow paint became lighter and lighter. Children then recorded the result on their recording form. Together with the teacher the children looked at the graph and its features. Next we answered questions about the graph. The teacher read the choices aloud to the children. There were six choices. After deciding which one they wanted they wrote their names below their choice. After everyone had wrote their name, we had created a graph. Compare and contrast items Make a choice Visual Art, In the construction center children built with the large hollow blocks. Working together two of them built a tunnel. Purposefully choose materials to achieve desired outcomes Represent an idea using materials Plan dramatizations with our peers Constructing a representation of a familiar setting Creating a plan and then using constructions to represent idea Reading In the library center during table time a small group of children read books. As the children looked at the books some tried to read the words by pointing to the words in the books, while others picture read. As the children listened to the songs they moved along doing the actions and singing. Children also had a chance to go inside the circle and do a dance move that the other children copied doing. In small groups we read the book Kites. Before reading the asked the question Have you ever flown a kite? The teacher then encouraged the children to share their experiences. Next the teacher read a list of plural words that would be inside the story. After reading the story answered questions about the story and personal responses to statements. Children used the cubes to create groups or to create a structure. Working together the children built a house with a tunnel that went underground. Before reading we watched a short video about kites and wind. Next we read our reader children taking turns reading with the help of the teacher. We also learned to new vocabulary words: breeze and gust. Next children did a patterning activity where they completed patterns. Children thought about this question and drew about in their journals. Some responses include: airplane, jet, butterfly, bird, and helicopter. In the science center a two kindergarten prep children explored with the jungle animals. They created a game called super animal. They took different animals and saved them from a dangerous spider.
