3 Energy Recovery Total Energy ore Technology Energy recovery is the process through which energy is transferred between the conditioned return air from the space and the fresh outdoor air which imposes the load on mechanical equipment. With the total energy core technology, this is done when the two airstreams cross within the core without direct air-to-air contact. The total energy core is constructed of specially-processed hydroscopic resin material layered in a cross-flow corrugated structure. The core is designed to separate the supply and exhaust air, ensuring only fresh air is introduced into the indoor space. This special material provides superior heat transfer and moisture permeability. Exhaust ir Supply ir 82 F 88 grains/lb. Summer Operation Outdoor ir 95 F 125 grains/lb. Return ir 75 F 50% RH SHRE 90.1 ompliance SHRE requires the use of energy recovery based upon a unit s supply airflow, outdoor air percentage, and geographic location. The standard mandates the total effectiveness (sensible and latent) be a minimum of 50%. This language has been adopted in the 2012 International Energy onservation ode. The effectiveness of energy recovery varies depending on the device type, material, and airflow balance. This value is determined based on the test procedure outlined in the ir- onditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institution (HRI) Standard ll Greenheck energy cores are third party certified to HRI Percentage of Outdoor ir at Full Design irflow Rate (cfm) Zone 30% 40% 40% 50% 50% 60% 60% 70% 70% 80% 80% Design Supply Fan irflow Rate (cfm) 3, 3, 4, 4, 5 NR NR NR NR 5,000 5,000 1, 2, 5 NR NR 26,000 12,000 5,000 4, ,000 5,500 4,500 3,500 2,500 1,500 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 5,500 4,500 3,500 2,000 1, , 8 2,500 1, NR = Not recommended 3
4 Model Miniore Models Miniore-5 and Miniore-10 are energy recovery ventilators that will provide your building with preconditioned fresh outdoor air for applications ranging from 300 to 1,000 cfm. Designed for indoor applications, its compact design and the capability to be mounted on its side, provide a ventilation solution for individual spaces such as school classrooms and small office spaces. The option for Vari-Green motors provides additional energy savings with a highly efficient motor technology. Two removable panels on the unit provide easy access to filters, blowers and the total energy core technology. Model D pprox. Fresh, outdoor air enters the energy recovery unit and is pretreated before entering the heating and cooling equipment. Whether ducting into terminal units, such as air handlers, or directly feeding into a rooftop unit, these preconditioners provide the ability to reduce the outdoor air load of these systems. Recovering Restroom Exhaust SHRE Standard 62.1 dictates that energy recovery devices rated for less than 10% crosscontamination can return restroom exhaust through the device. ny volume of air transferred through the device can be reclassified as fresh outdoor air. ll of Greenheck s energy recovery units are rated well below the 10% limit, therefore it is allowable to return restroom exhaust, and is also recommended to maximize the benefit. 6
7 Optional ontrol Sequences and Unit ontrol Options Optional ontrol Sequences and Product Features Economizer ontrol - available on Model EV When outdoor air conditions are favorable, the controller will allow the economizer operation based off of enthalpy or outdoor air conditions. Two selectable options include: ypass damper - n integral bypass damper will cycle open, allowing incoming cool air to flow past the energy recovery core and enter the building unconditioned. Independent blower control - Unit will have the capability to receive an external signal to power off the supply fan. Energy ore Frost ontrol The frost control prevents frost buildup on the energy core in climates that have cold outdoor winter temperatures; typically less than -10º F. Timed exhaust - ycles supply blower to melt frost with only warm, return air. Motor Options - available on Miniore and EV-10 vailable motor options include: Standard PS motor - ontrolled by a speed controller. Optional Vari-Green E motor - Features a soft start, overload protection, locked rotor protection, thermal protection and easy RPM adjustment. Demand ontrol Ventilation Varies the amount of outdoor air based on occupancy. vailable options are: O 2 sensor - Mounted in the return air duct or in the space, this sensor determines occupancy and modulates the fan speed accordingly or it cycles the unit on and off to provide the appropriate amount of outdoor air. Time clock - remote panel can be equipped with a 7-day programmable time clock to turn the unit off based on a schedule. Mounting Options - available on Model Miniore Miniore is designed with the appropriate energy core support to allow the unit to be mounted horizontally, vertically or on its side. Horizontal - Standard Vertical - Optional Side - Optional Fan Speed ontrol - available on EV-20 and EV-30 To accommodate the system requirements, the fan speed can be adjusted with a variable frequency drive to: Multi-speed - llows the fan to operate at three preset speeds determined by a set of input contacts. Modulating - Varies the fan speed from % based on an analog input signal. Unit ontrol Options In addition to standard analog control, Greenheck is proud to offer the following direct digital control option. Network Interface - available on Model EV The network interface offers an easy-to-use, remote-mounted display which can monitor and control the unit to verify proper operation and assist with maintenance notification without the need for full microprocessor capabilities. It easily integrates to net MS/TP or IP, LonWorks or Modbus RTU. Two operating options are available: Monitor - llows the MS to monitor the status and functions of the unit through a factory-installed controller. Monitor and control - llows the MS to monitor the status and command the basic functions of the unit through a factory-installed controller. remote panel is not available with this option. 7
