1 Nextgen VPN VPLS and IP VPN Customer Controlled Simple Management End-to-End QoS Voice & Video Ready Customer Managed Access Options: 512Kbit/s to 1Gbit/s and up to 10Gbit/s [1] Nextgen Group s VPN Nextgen offers customers the choice between IP VPN, which includes access to an enhanced customer portal for simplified WAN control, or VPLS, which gives customers complete flexibility to deploy and manage their own Layer 3 WAN. Both Nextgen VPN solutions are a premium performance, data service for connecting the multiple sites of Australian organisations. Nextgen s implementation of VPLS and IP VPN employs Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) as the underlying technology to deliver carrier grade Quality of Service (QoS) and network availability. The key user advantages of multipoint VPN solutions are: Simplicity of management with a single data service to each site. Fully meshed network core for carrier grade availability and performance. Empowerment of customers to manage their existing network attributes. Cost effective network architecture compared to deploying individual point to-point services.
2 The Customer Experience Our Customer Value Proposition The ability to be flexible and responsive A key feature of Nextgen Group s VPN is its customer controlled flexibility. This translates into the ability for network managers to say easy to any reasonable request from the business that they support. Without additional charges or carrier-imposed controls, customers can: Transmit data between any sites, fully meshed, without having to consider interstate traffic dimensioning or charges. Centralise or distribute hosted applications as and when required for cost savings, disaster recovery and general risk management. Connect with routers or switches on a site-by-site basis to fit local needs. Deploy in a staged approach with the option to commence a VPN deployment by mirroring current architecture, and then implementing more advanced capabilities later. Manage change by performing moves, adds, changes and deletes with minimal carrier involvement. Simple cost management Standard monthly charges mean that customers can expect consistency of fees through the life of the service, regardless of traffic volume or how the performance capability of our network is used. Design IP address architectures to meet functional business needs, not networking constraints, and change these as required. Deploy real-time convergent applications such as voice and video, which require end-to-end QoS. Nextgen VPN Features The features of Nextgen Group s VPN are summarised as follows: Connectivity Single national network with bundled interstate bandwidth Customers connect to a single VPN network, which is engineered to provide uncongested bandwidth to the full capacity of any access circuit. Range of access options Customer access circuits are available with fibre, microwave and copper technologies to provide a range of customer price/ performance options up to 10 Gbit/s. Customer interconnect options Most access options (see table below) support 802.1Q VLAN tagging which allows customers to transparently carry multiple customer s VLANs over their VPLS network. ADSL and NBN access are supported on Nextgen IP VPN services. The customer equipment for an access circuit can be a layer 2 switch, layer 3 switch or router, depending on the customer s requirements. To simplify customers network management and improve application performance, Nextgen can group a customer s different access circuits into separate VPN instances, at no additional charge. 3 Performance Uncongested performance QoS priority levels Nextgen Group s core VPN network is engineered to offer customers uncongested transmission performance and minimum latency. Nextgen Group provides a choice of one, four or seven traffic priority levels* for customers to manage congestion end-to-end through their network. Quality of Service (QoS) QoS ensures that time sensitive and mission critical applications have the priority they require. This allows customers to contain costs by delaying or reducing the need for bandwidth upgrades. While Nextgen Group s VPN network is engineered for uncongested performance, it is possible for congestion to occur in access circuits when customer sites attempt to transmit more data than the access circuit is able to handle. Nextgen Group includes QoS as a standard feature to enable customers to prioritise traffic in case access circuit congestion occurs. Both Nextgen VPLS and IP VPN also use the same QoS definition allowing seamless interconnection to create a hybrid network if required. CUSTOMER TRAFFIC SCENARIO
4 Nextgen VPN Customers can choose seven class QoS to accommodate their complex network requirements. Seven Class QoS Class Priority Maximum Rate Typical Use Network Control 1 10% of SIR** Customer Network Control Realtime 2 30% of SIR** Voice over IP Multimedia 3 100% of SIR Interactive-video Interactive 4 100% of SIR Voice/Video signaling; Business critical interactive applications Data Transfer 5 100% of SIR Non critical business applications Best Effort 6 100% of SIR Bulk data transfer Default 7 100% of SIR Internet traffic * QoS priority levels require an access circuit of 1 Mbit/s or more. Access circuits smaller than 1 Mbit/s support Default class only. ** These service categories are rate limited to protect customer network performance. Nextgen also offers single and four class QoS for customers who have simpler business requirements. Customer Data Control and Management Customer control Nextgen IP VPN absorbs the routing complexity whilst providing customers with simplified network control via the enhanced customer portal. More details about the customer portal can be found in the Nextgen Group IP VPN data sheet. Nextgen VPLS offers the customer full control of their network and provides network protocol transparency, supporting all existing routing protocols as well as IPv4, IPv6, MPLS, IPX. For details about VPLS control, please refer to the Nextgen Group VPLS datasheet. Online customer portal With the portal, customers have more analytics at their fingertips to monitor and manage key performance metrics, such as traffic utilisation and drops per QoS class. This provides an understanding of network performance allowing customers to optimise accordingly. With Nextgen IP VPN, customers can also manage the IP addresses and routing of their services instantly without needing to contact the Nextgen Service Management Centre, saving time and money. Price model Nextgen offers a simple, bundled pricing model inclusive of features such as QoS, VLANs or interstate bandwidth as a single access circuit price per site. Billing information Customers can nominate their own reference per service to allow easy verification of their charges.

Support for static route only, allowing customers to choose low cost routers due to reduced requirement for CPU power and memory.
