2 The TRACKER PLUS satellite signal meter is microprocessor controlled, making it very reliable and accurate. The instrument is unique as it can measure satellite signal from one and up to four LNBs at the same time. Signal strength is resented graphical on the LCD-display in form of thermometer scales and in numbers (from 0-999). It can also present pitch tones from one of the selected inputs. The TRACKER PLUS satellite signal meter is very sensitive and can detect the weakest of signals. Strong incoming signals (powerful satellites, big dishes) can easily be attenuated for a better readout. TRACKER PLUS can be switched from normal to sensitive mode for more accurate alignment of the dish. The TRACKER PLUS can control DiSEqC, Toneburst 22 khz and 13/18v that makes it very useful for setting up and testing systems. The instrument can operate any DiSEqC 1.2 actuator. The combination of actuator control and satellite finder is very useful and always needed. The TRACKER PLUS is powered by either the replaceable and rechargeable 8xAA batteries or from a satellite receiver (through the coax). The unit is operational for about four hour with a fully charged battery. Charging of the unit is done with the enclosed power supply. It takes about 14 hours to recharge a fully drained battery. The inputs are short circuit protected by automatic fuses. Even though the TRACKER PLUS has a lot of functions it is still very easy to use and has a very compact design. 3 THE TRACKER PLUS satellite signal meter is DEVELOPED FOR SATELLITE-TV INSTALLATIONS AND MANUFACTOR BY ORBITAL TRACKER. The TRACKER PLUS IS DESIGNED TO BE AN AFFORDABLE COMPACT SATELLITE SIGNAL METER THAT IS CAPABLE OF RECEPTION OF THE ENTIRE BANDWIDTH USED FOR SATELLITE-TV INSTALLATIONS. THE METER USES FIELD-REPLACEABLE CONNECTORS AND RECHARGEABLE AA CELLS TO KEEP MAINTENANCE COSTS TO A MINIMUM. THE METER IS ALSO FULLY UPGRADEABLE. The TRACKER PLUS satellite signal meter has a data port located on the top of the meter for future use and will allow the TRACKER PLUS to remain flexible with developments by giving the user simple access to firmware or software upgrades. To expose the data port, remove the outer case covering. The data port is located on the top of the meter (the opposite end from the DC charging port/f-connection end.) The TRACKER PLUS was developed primarily for the installation of the DirecTV and DishNetwork Satellites and is capable of receive both the Ka Band and Ku Band signals from DTV s 5 satellites at the 99, 101,103, 110, as well as 110, 119, and 129 for DishNetwork. The TRACKER PLUS adds the ability to be use with a DiSEqC commands, such as the Dish Pro Plus, which is found on the Dish For DirecTV SWM LNB, the TRACKER PLUS has a SWM mode allowing you to select the SL3S or SL5S LNB form As more satellites actively begin transmitting in the Ka Band widths, the TRACKER PLUS will become Increasingly more dynamic in functions. Power Supply: The TRACKER PLUS Satellite Meter is supplied with 8 AA NiMH rechargeable cells and an AC transformer charger, as well as a DC car charger. A 75 ohm terminator is included for meter-only alignment applications. 3

4 The terminator comes already attached to the meter s Receiver port. The F connectors are field-replaceable and should be replaced with F- 81 barrel connectors (hi frequency). The TRACKER PLUS is protected by a neoprene rubber outer case, with adjustable carrying strap, and is easily removed (see below) for access to the battery compartment. The unit is delivered with a caring case, power supply, Car charger and manual. To remove the TRACKER PLUS meter, push the cover off the top of the meter first. To reinsert the meter, insert the bottom (input side) first. (See illustration below.) After removal from the protective case covering, you may access the battery compartment door on the back of the meter. Note: The TRACKER PLUS meter does not have a battery strength indicator. If the meter will not power on or fails to stay powered on, you may need to charge the batteries 4

5 Battery Charging: To charge the rechargeable batteries provided with your TRACKER PLUS satellite meter simply plug the AC wall charger into a common household outlet before connecting in the meter. Use the center port in the bottom of the meter for the AC charger connection. The meter should display the start up screen momentarily, before displaying the charging screen. The charging screen will appear as the countdown timer begins the count down from 14 hours. The voltage reading of the combined AA battery cells will be displayed in the upper right-hand corner of the screen and the charging status displayed in the center with text reading Charging Battery. The 14 hour timer will stop it s countdown when the cells are fully charged and the charging status text will read Battery Charged (with the voltage of the cells displayed in the upper right-hand corner). Note: To maximize the capacity and life of the batteries, it may take up to 3 complete cycles of charging/discharging to bring the battery up to it s full stated capacity. The TRACKER PLUS satellite meter uses five rechargeable batteries, while you can substituted this for regular AAA batteries, it is recommended that they only be used for short periods when the recharging of the NiMH cells is not possible. When using AAA batteries, insert them into the tray compartment as indicated by the battery diagram in each individual cell holder. Note: Only use ALKALINE batteries for substitution and do not attempt to recharge alkaline batteries! Under NO circumstances should charging of ALKALINE batteries be done! Not only is this unsafe, it will void all warranty coverage of the TRACKER PLUS Satellite Meter 5

6 Menu: Power the meter by pressing the Power ON/OFF and then press the MENU button The MENU button text is highlighted in white. All white arrows and text on the faceplate indicate which function the buttons control when in the menu screen. Click on the white UP or DOWN buttons to make your selection and then click on the OK button to select that option. The screen below will appear after pressing the MENU button. 8 DTV mode: Select the DTV mode from the MENU. The default satellites names are the Ka (Hi) 99 West and Ku 101 West, this will show on the bottom left of the screen. To change the satellite names; press the Satellite Select button top left in black. The satellite name and orbital slot are displayed at the bottom of the LCD screen. They are 4 different c with different configuration of satellite names to choose from. 1. Satellite screens for Ka band 99 WEST, Ku band 101 WEST on 13V. (RHCP) 2. 9 Sensitivity Mode: The blue-text indicates functions controlled by the buttons within the blue outline (each button controls the corresponding bandwidth indicated to the right of the box). Press the button beside the bandwidth you want to zoom in on (bar becomes more dynamic, in relation to it s displayed signal strength movements). When the SENSITIVITY function is On a S will appear on the signal bar to indicate which band width now appears to more freely move. The TRACKER PLUS comes with a 75 ohm terminator connected to the receiver port at the bottom of the unit. This terminator should be used, unless the meter is in-line between the I.R.D. and the dish, to prevent interference as a result fo terristral signal reception on the Ka band. The TRACKER PLUS SENSITIVITY function is shown by an S, you can select the SENSITIVITY on an individual signal or on all 3 signal if you like, this will zoom in on the signal bar you selected, making movement more prominent to the user. Beeper ON/OFF: To activate the Beeper ON/OFF audio buzzer simply press and hold one of the 3 buttons shown on the top right diagram, each button will activate an individual signal corresponding to the signal on the screen. The speaker icon will appear on the signal bar. You will hear an indication through a rise and fall of pitch change, of how strong the signal is currently being received. The TRACKER PLUS will allow you to have the SENSITIVITY function and the Beeper ON/OFF audio buzzer at the same time if you like. You will see the S for the SENSITIVITY and the speaker icon both next to each other. 9

10 SWM Mode: The TRACKER PLUS is not able to power the SWM LNB for a long time; therefore we have provided a power passing splitter to power the SWM LNB. Please see below on how to connect the splitter to your SWM LNB and TRACKER PLUS satellite meter. The Power Supply should always be connected on the Power passing side of the splitter.(red LINE) Select the SWM mode from the MENU. You will then select the SWM LNB, and press OK SL-5S LNB SL -3S LNB SL-3S SL-5S 10

11 After selecting the LNB you will see the 101 satellite and the 119 at the same time on the screen. Multi Mode: Multi Mode allows the user to look at a single LNB or to look at up to 4 LNBs at the same time. It is ideal for use with the DishNetWork multi-lnb systems, like the Dish Note: Because DishNetWork has different manufacturers of the Dish LNB, it is recommended that you connect the TRACKER PLUS to Port 1 of the LNB. Also, because the LNB can drop the stacked mode when you first power up the meter (in Multi Mode), the initial reading will be low until you enter a selection (Diseqc command.) After that initial selection, all readings will be accurate Select the Multi Mode from the Menu. You will start on LNB1 = (119 Satellite) to change to a different LNB simply press the DiSEqC Scan button. Note: You will not be able to see or select any LNB s if the TRACKER PLUS satellite meter is not connected to a DiSEqC switch or an LNB with a DiSEqC control like the DishPro or the Dish 1000 family. By pressing the DiSEqC Select Port button you can see the different LNB s one at a time and the LNB will show on the screen, LNB1to LNB4 By pressing the DiSEqC Scan button you will be able to see multiple LNB s on the screen at the same time. 11

12 Starts on LNB1 = (119 Satellite) Press DiSEqC Scan x 1 for LNB2 = (110 Satellite) Press DiSEqC Scan x 1 for LNB3 = (129 Satellite) Press DiSEqC Scan x 1 for LNB4 = (Optional Sat) Initial Alignment for DircTV Slimline Dish: The TRACKER PLUS powers ON to send 13V and no 22kHz tone to measure the RHCP signal from 101 Eest. Pressing the Satellite Select button 2 times and you will see the third screen on you right. This will send 13V and the 22kHz tone for reading the RHCP signal from the 119 West satellite, only. The remaining selections cover the alternate polarities of the Ku Band signals from DTV 101 West and DTV 119 West, plus the additional Combination of the DTV 110 West with the DTV 119 West using the 18V/22kHz parameters 12

13 Data Port Functions / Future Upgrades: To expose the Data Port, remove the outer case covering. The Data Port is located on the opposite end of the DIGISAT MULTI from the DC charging port/f-connection end. A special cable for connection with PC is needed (optional, not included).
