2 ( ) Preparation Faxback Doc. # CONNECTING POWER Using Internal Battery Power You can power your radio using three AA batteries. For up to 60 hours of operation, we recommend alkaline batteries, such as Radio Shack Cat. No Caution: Use only fresh batteries of the recommended size and type. Always remove old or weak batteries. They can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic circuits. 1. Push down on the battery compartment cover and slide it off in the direction of the arrow. 2. Insert the batteries over the ribbon, according to the polarity symbols (+ and -) located inside the battery compartment. 3. Replace the cover. If the radio's sound becomes weak, replace the batteries. NOTE: To remove old batteries, gently pull on the ribbon. Using AC Power To connect the radio to a standard AC outlet, you need an AC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat. No CAUTIONS: The recommended adapter supplies 4.5 volts with the center tip set to negative, delivers 300 milliamps, and its plug properly fits the radio's DC 4.5V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. Unplug the AC adapter from the AC outlet before you unplug it from the radio. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 4.5V. 2. Insert the green-tipped Adaptaplug's black end into the AC adapter cord to read TIP-NEG.

3 3. Insert the Adaptaplug's other end into the DC 4.5V jack on the back of the radio. This automatically disconnects internal battery power. 4. Plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Using Vehicle Battery Power To use your vehicle's battery to power the radio, you need a DC adapter (not supplied), such as Cat. NO CAUTIONS: Your vehicle must have a 12-volt DC, negative ground electrical system. Unplug the adapter from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket when you turn off the ignition. This protects your vehicle's battery from being drained if you leave the radio on when you turn off the ignition. Unplug the adapter from your vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket before you unplug it from the radio. The recommended adapter supplies 4.5 volts with the center tip set to negative, delivers 300 milliamps, and its plug properly fits the radio's DC 4.5V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could seriously damage the radio or the adapter. 1. Set the adapter's voltage switch to 4.5V. 2. Insert the blue-tipped Adaptaplug's two prongs into the DC adapter's cord to read TIP-NEG. 3. Insert the Adaptaplug's other end into the DC 4.5V jack on the back of the radio. This automatically disconnects internal battery power. 4. Plug the adapter's cord into the vehicle's cigarette-lighter socket. USING THE EARPHONE You can use the supplied earphone for private listening. 1. Insert the earphone's plug into the EAR jack. 2. Place the earphone's other end in your ear and adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.

5 ( ) Operation Faxback Doc. # PLAYING THE RADIO 1. Turn on the radio by rotating VOLUME toward the top of the radio until you hear a click. 2. Set FM/TV1/TV2/AM on the back of the radio to the desired band. NOTE: Adjust the radio's position for the best AM reception. For the best FM, TV1, and TV2 reception, fully extend the telescoping antenna. 3. Rotate TUNING to select the desired station. 4. Adjust VOLUME to a comfortable listening level. 5. To turn off the radio, rotate VOLUME toward the bottom of the radio until you hear a click.
