4 1 HP Point of Sale Peripherals 1.1 HP Retail Jacket Scanner Connection The barcode scanner is connected by installing the ElitePad 900 into the HP Retail Jacket Windows Drivers for Scanner The HP Retail Jacket barcode scanner uses native drivers for Windows operating system in the default USB HID-KBD mode. When the HP Retail Jacket barcode scanner is in USB-COM mode (OPOS/JPOS) a Windows device driver is required OPOS Drivers for the Scanner There are no JPOS drivers needed for this device if the device is used in the human interface device (HID) keyboard emulation mode (default mode as shipped from the factory). If the POS application needs the OPOS drivers, the OPOS and COM drivers must installed via the appropriate setup utility and the scanner put into USB-COM mode JPOS Drivers for the Scanner There are no OPOS drivers needed for this device if the device is used in the human interface device (HID) keyboard emulation mode (default mode as shipped from the factory)

5 If the POS application needs the JPOS drivers, the COM drivers must installed in the image via the appropriate setup utility and the scanner put into USB-COM mode Testing the Scanner Testing scanner in Windows mode The default mode of the scanner is Windows mode when shipped from HP. In order to test the scanner in Windows mode one can open an application like Microsoft Notepad and scan a barcode when the scanner is in default scanner mode. You may use one of the barcodes below for testing if you do not have an item with a barcode handy. This is PDF

6 Testing the scanner in OPOS The scanner must be in USB-COM mode (OPOS) and USB-COM drivers must be installed. If one is not sure what mode the scanner is in, open an application like notepad and scan a barcode. If the scanner is in OPOS mode, when you scan a barcode in Notepad nothing will appear in Notepad. If something appears in Notepad the scanner is USB HID Keyboard emulation mode. Note: The barcode to change the scanner into USB-COM mode can be found in the HP Retail Jacket Scanner OPOS_NonOPOS Barcodes.pdf file. The following is an overview of the steps to test the scanner followed by details steps: 1. Launch the scanner OPOS Test utility from C:\SWSetup\Point of Sale\Scanner (Mobile Retail Jacket)\Mobile OPOS Test Utility folder. 2. Select appropriate scanner device from the drop down box. 3. Click Open button. 4. Click Claim button. 5. Click Enable button. 6. Scan a barcode and the data will appear in the dialog box. 7. After scan is complete click on Disable button. 8. Click Release button. 9. Click Close Scanner button. 10. Exit the application

7 Detail Steps 1. Launch the scanner OPOS Test utility from C:\SWSetup\Point of Sale\Scanner (Mobile Retail Jacket)\Mobile OPOS Test Utility folder. 2. Select appropriate scanner device from the drop down box

8 3. Click Open button. In the OUTPUT section should see OPEN SUCCESS. 4. Click Claim button. In the OUTPUT section should see CLAIM SUCCESS

9 5. Click Enable button. Make sure Always Enable Data Event has is checked. 6. Scan a barcode and the data will appear in the dialog box

10 7. After scan is complete click on Disable button. 8. Click Release button

11 9. Click Close Scanner button. 10. Exit the application

12 1.1.6 JPOS Drivers for the Scanner The JPOS drivers are located in C:\SWSetup\Point of Sale\Scanner (Mobile Retail Jacket)\ Mobile Retail Jacket Scanner JPOS folder. In order for the scanner to work with JPOS driver, the scanner must be programmed into the USB-COM mode and USB-COM drivers must be installed.. Note: The barcode to change the scanner into USB-COM mode can be found in the HP Retail Jacket Scanner OPOS_NonOPOS Barcodes.pdf file. The following is an overview of the steps to test the scanner followed by details steps: 1. Select the proper device from the drop down menu. 4. Click on the OPEN button. 5. Click on the CLAIM button. 6. Scan a barcode and the data will appear in the Scan Data and Scan Data Label boxes. 13 2. Click on the Scanner tab. 3. Select the proper device from the drop down menu

14 4. Click on the OPEN button. 5. Click on the CLAIM button. After clicking on the CLAIM button a few seconds later a check should appear next to the Data event enabled / Device enabled / Decode data boxes

15 6. Scan a barcode and the data will appear in the Scan Data and Scan Data Label boxes. 7. After scan is complete click on Release button. 8. Click on Close button

16 9. Click on Exit to close the test application

17 2 HP Point of Sale Peripherals 2.1 HP Retail Jacket Scanner Question: How can I tell which COM port the scanner is assigned when it is USB-COM mode for OPOS/JPOS? Answer: Open Windows Device Manager and open the com0com serial port emulators device to see which COM port has been assigned. Note: The above screen capture show the scanner assigned as COM1, your system setup could vary

18 Question: In JPOS when I click on the OPEN button, nothing seems to happen, what should I check? Answer: There are three items that need to be checked: 1) Make sure the COM port drivers are installed and make a note of the COM port. 2) Scanner is in USB-COM mode. 3) The JPOS.XML reflects the COM port that is shown in the Windows device manager
