STOP! Read this section before you start! Always make sure to visit AZEK.com to ensure you are viewing the most current installation instructions, care and cleaning, technical information and more. AZEK Siding should be installed using the same standard building principals used to install wood or typical alternate material siding panels and in accordance with the local building codes and the installation guidelines. CPG International LLC accepts no liability or responsibility for the improper installation of this product. AZEK Siding may not be suitable for every application and it is the sole responsibility of the installer to be sure that AZEK Siding is fit for the intended use. Since all installations are unique, it is also the installer s responsibility to determine specific requirements for each siding application. CPG International LLC recommends that all applications be reviewed by a licensed architect, engineer or local building official before installation. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please call AZEK Customer Service at ASK-AZEK, (877) or visit our website at AZEK.com/siding. Failure to install AZEK Siding products in accordance with applicable building codes and this Installation Guide may lead to personal injury, affect performance and void the product warranty. Extreme Heat Warning Be aware of excessive heat on the surface of AZEK products from external sources, such as but not limited to, BBQ Grills, fire, or reflection of sunlight from energy-efficient window products. Low-emissivity (Low-E) glass can potentially harm AZEK products. Low-E glass is designed to prevent passive heat gain within a structure and can cause unusual heat buildup on exterior surfaces. This extreme elevation of surface temperatures, which exceeds that of normal exposure, can possibly cause AZEK products to melt, sag, warp, discolor, increase expansion/contraction, and accelerate weathering. Current or potential AZEK customers that have concerns about possible damage by Low-E glass should contact the manufacturer of the product which contains Low-E glass for a solution to reduce or eliminate the effects of reflected sunlight. Page 2

Tools AZEK Siding can be installed with a minimum number of readily available tools. Many other tools are available that can be used for installation. All tools should be used per applicable manufacturers instructions. Some of the basic tool recommendations: Power Drill Pneumatic Roofing / Siding Nail Coiler Hammer (do not use milled-faced hammer) Tape Measure Chalk Line Miter Saw (12 100T carbide finish blade is recommended) Jig Saw Caulk Gun Square Level Utility Knife Dust Mask Safety Glasses Sealant: (For best results, AZEK recommends OSI QUAD MAX Sealant or equivalent) Fasteners Aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized or other corrosion resistant nails / screws. Minimum penetration into framing member of 3/4. Fasten siding panels with a minimum of 2 x.099 ring shank fasteners, final length determined based on a minimum of 3/4 penetration into framing member. Properly adjust fastener depth or pressure to ensure fastener is driven flush but not overdriven. Sealant/Caulking For best results, AZEK recommends OSI QUAD MAX Sealant or equivalent. This can be used in almost any application with AZEK Siding and can be painted or ordered in a complementary colored product. For best results, AZEK recommends the use of OSI QUAD MAX at penetration points of the home, including but not limited to: o All penetrations made for electrical lights, outlets and switches or controls o Hose bibs or other fixed pipes o All dryer hoods, intake and/or exhaust hoods for mechanical ventilation and any PVC penetrations o Where AZEK Siding meets with: Outside or inside corner trim Window or door joints Window and door trim Band, rake or frieze boards Soffit joints Siding transitions of dissimilar substrates Contact the sealant/caulk manufacturer for specific information regarding recommended application conditions and best practices. General Considerations Consult local building codes/regulations prior to installation. May not be suitable for every cladding application. AZEK Siding is designed for horizontal orientation only. Due to the range of motion needed to engage siding panels, in most cases it is recommended to remove existing trim and/or install trim after siding is installed. Be sure to properly measure and locate final trim position for corner, windows, doors, etc. Fasteners should be driven flush - not over driven. Position cutting station so that wind direction will direct dust away from user or others in the work area. Primed panels should be finished as soon as possible following on-site installation; no later than 90 days. o It is recommended to rinse panels prior to painting For best results when cutting, use a 12 Miter Saw with a minimum 100T carbide finish blade. Rabbeted Trim, Rabbeted Cornerboards or other profiles accepting AZEK Siding must have a 3/4 or greater rabbet height to properly fit the thickness of AZEK Siding. Storage and Handling Store AZEK Siding products on a flat and level surface. Keep AZEK Siding panels in boxes until application. To prevent damage to boxes, store covered and free of moisture. Use care when removing panels from box avoid sliding. Panels should be handled and cut with painted side up. Do not stack units more than 2 high. CPG will not be responsible for damages caused by improper storage or handling. Page 3

1 DETERMINE LOCATION OF STARTER STRIP ON THE WALL AZEK Siding must be installed over sheathing (OSB, plywood, etc.) which provides a smooth, flat surface capable of accepting nails or screws. After the sheathing, install a continuous moisture barrier with flashing to be incorporated per industry standards, manufacturer guidelines & local code requirements. Determine and mark stud locations on the wall. Level and fasten starter strip at each end and at every stud location. MAX 1/2 MAX 1/2 When fastening starter, be sure fasteners are driven straight into the stud, not at angles. Allow a maximum gapping of 1/2 between starter strips. If cutting of starter strip is necessary - use a carbide tipped blade and miter saw. After cutting, use care as cut edges may be sharp. *While AZEK Siding assists in water management efforts, it is not designed to be waterproof. Page 4

2 INSTALLING THE FIRST AZEK SIDING PANEL Siding panels must be installed from left to right. It is recommended in most cases that finished corners, trim/moulding around windows, doors, etc. be removed or be installed after installation of siding is complete. If preferred, trim off left side of first panel to ensure that the nail guide marks found in the nailing hem of the panel are lined up with the studs or to align placement of butt joint. o A maximum of 16 on-center should be maintained when fastening siding panels. Fasten panel within 3/4 at all butt joints and end cuts. A To lock first panel onto starter strip, tilt top of panel away from wall slightly, use downward pressure to engage lock. Do not use excessive force, such as driving with a hammer or other striking tool as damage to the panel could occur. B A B C MIN 3/4 Nail Hem Stud Fastener Nail Guide Marks Fasten within 3/4 from edge of siding panel Check to ensure panel is locked onto starter strip along the entire length. This can be accomplished by pulling outward at the bottom of panel. If the panel is locked correctly, it will not pull away from the wall. Fasten the panel securely at each stud location. Fasteners should be driven flush and not over driven to nailing hem. Nails should be driven straight, not on angles. Fasteners must be driven a minimum of 3/4 into stud / framing member. C Make sure that fasteners are positioned within the nailing hem. Fastening above the nailing hem will pinch the top and hinder locking of the next panel. Fastening below the nail hem may result in fasteners being visible. 3/4 Moisture Barrier OSB Snap onto starter strip and slide to left 2 1 W ork from L eft to R ight Page 5

3 COMPLETING THE FIRST ROW Place the next siding panel to the right of the installed panel, but not yet overlapping. Lock panel onto starter strip, tilt top of panel away from wall slightly, use downward pressure to engage lock. Do not use excessive force. After engagement of lock, slide panel to the left over the engineered lap joint on the previous panel while butting panels tightly together. Prior to fastening, ensure that butt joint is tight and nail locators on the nailing hem align with the stud locations on the wall. Fasten the panel securely at each stud location. Fasteners must penetrate a minimum of 3/4 into stud / framing member. Fasteners should be driven flush and snug to nailing hem. o Nails should be driven straight, not on angle Leave appropriate spacing to allow siding to properly fit into rabbeted trim or cut panel to chalk-line indicator for proper trim attachment. o Then install last panel per previous instructions A maximum of 16 on-center should be maintained when fastening siding panels. Level and fasten siding panels at each end at every stud location. o Prior to fastening, ensure panels are locked correctly by pulling outward at the bottom of the panel. 4 INSTALLING COURSES UP TO A FINAL ROW To ensure that butt joints are staggered, cut beginning panel in each row as needed, also keeping nail indicators in line with studs. Always working from left to right, ensure that each panel is securely locked onto panel(s) below prior to fastening. Continue to install remaining courses exactly the same way while continuing to stagger the overlapping butt joints. o For best results, center butt joints on studs or framing member Avoid having any panel joints immediately above and below any windows, doors, or other wall penetrations. Leave appropriate spacing to allow siding to properly fit into rabbeted trim or cut panel to chalk-line indicator for flush trim finish. o Then install last panel per previous instructions *Proper house wrap and flashing must be installed per industry standards, manufacturer guidelines and code requirements. Page 6

5 INSTALLING SIDING PANELS AROUND WINDOWS AND DOORS Due to range of motion needed to lock siding panels, it is recommended in most cases to remove existing trim and/or install trim after siding is installed. Be sure to know exactly where final trim will be placed around windows, doors, etc. when planning cut outs in siding panels. Take accurate measurements to determine where siding should finish around windows, doors, etc. (Double check measurements prior to cutting siding panel). Transfer measurements, mark panel(s) to be cut, again double check for accuracy. Keep in mind that you should plan and cut siding so that finished edges are as close as possible to where trim around windows, doors, etc. will be placed after siding installation is complete. If notching or cutout is necessary, siding panels are easily cut using common woodworking tools, such as a jig saw equipped with a fine kerf blade. Prior to fastening, dry fit panel around opening to be sure panel finishes at desired location, again keeping in mind allowance for placement of final trim pieces. Recommended: Do not place any overlap joints directly above or below windows, doors, etc. to help prevent water permeation. It may be necessary to shim behind cut or ripped panel to maintain solid backing to the wall. This will help to maintain rigidity of the cut panel and keep the panel in the proper plane for appearance. Ensure panels are locked together and then fasten per previous instructions. Where shims have been placed along ripped or cut panels, fasten using aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized or other corrosion resistant fasteners. o Minimum penetration into the framing members must be 3/4 After siding has been completed, and trim installed or re-installed, if channel or rabbeted trim boards were not used, apply clear or color matched caulk adhesive along any edges where siding meets trim. For best results, AZEK recommends OSI QUAD MAX Sealant or equivalent. This can be used in almost any application with AZEK Siding and can be painted or ordered in a complementary colored product. **For best results, AZEK recommends the use of OSI QUAD MAX at penetration points of the home, including but not limited to: 1. All penetrations made for electrical lights, outlets and switches or controls 2. Hose bibs or other fixed pipes 3. All dryer hoods, intake and/or exhaust hoods for mechanical ventilation and any PVC penetrations 4. AZEK Siding meets with: Outside or inside corner trim Window or door joints Window and door trim Band, rake or frieze boards Soffit joints Siding transitions of dissimilar substrates **Contact the sealant/caulk manufacturer for specific information regarding recommended application conditions and best practices. Cut Panel Shi m Trim 3/4 3/4 *Proper house wrap and flashing must be installed per industry standards, manufacturer guidelines and code requirements. Page 8

6 INSTALLING FINAL COURSE The frieze board or trim member will generally need to be attached after the siding is complete. If covering the edge of the siding panel, the trim must completely cover the fastener nailing hem. Due to the range of motion needed to engage siding panels, it is recommended in most cases to remove existing trim and/or install trim after siding is installed. Be sure to properly measure and locate final trim position for corner, windows, doors, etc. Take accurate measurements to determine where siding should finish up to frieze board or other desired trim/moulding location. Transfer measurements, mark panel(s) to be cut, again double check for accuracy. For best results, siding panels should be ripped with a circular saw or table saw using a high tooth count finish blade. Prior to fastening, dry fit panel to be sure panel locks and finishes at desired location, again keeping in mind allowance for placement of frieze board or other desired trim/moulding. It may be necessary to shim behind cut or ripped panel at each stud location to maintain solid backing to the wall, this will help to maintain rigidity of the cut panel and keep the panel in the proper plane for appearance. Where shims have been placed along ripped or cut panels, fasten using aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized or other corrosion resistant fasteners. Mechanically fasten ripped panels in location to ensure caulk joint covers exposed fasteners. Minimum penetration into the framing members must be 3/4. After siding has been completed, and frieze board or desired trim/moulding has been installed, apply clear or color matched caulk continuously along top edge where siding meets frieze board or trim/moulding. Shim behind panel as needed for proper alignment Page 9

7 FINISHING GABLE ENDS Due to range of motion needed to engage siding panels, existing trim must be removed and installed after siding is installed. The rake board or trim member will need to be attached after siding is complete, if covering the edge of the siding panel, the trim must completely cover the fastener nailing hem. Take accurate measurements to determine where siding should finish up to the rake board. After proper angle is determined, transfer measurements, mark panel(s) to be cut, again double check for accuracy. Desired angles on siding panels can be cut using common woodworking tools, such as a sliding compound miter saw or jig saw with fine kerf blade. Continue to mark and cut panels as you complete the gable, and fasten the panels per suggestions in Step 2. Final panel on gable may need to be rip cut, follow instructions for shimming and fastening in Step 6. Trim Siding Trim Trim Shi m Siding Trim Shi m Page 10

Care & Cleaning AZEK recommends cleaning your siding 1 to 2 times annually. Wait a minimum of 2 weeks after field applied paint before washing to ensure the paint has properly dried. To clean AZEK Siding, a multi-purpose cleaner such as Simple Green or Mr. Clean may be used. Follow cleaning product manufacturer directions on dilution rates and application methods for each cleaner. Light scrubbing with a micro-fiber cloth, soft sponge or white cotton terry cloth is acceptable, if desired. Work in manageable sized areas to avoid cleaner drying on the siding surface. Use low pressure garden hose to thoroughly rinse with water as you go. For spot or stain treatment, use either Simple Green All-Purpose cleaner or Mr. Clean Multi-Purpose cleaner. Apply full strength cleaner to soiled area; lightly scrub with a soft sponge or white cotton terry cloth, and then rinse with water. Repeat if needed. Avoid allowing concentrated cleaner to dry on the siding surface. To remove mildew, wash the surface with a solution of 1 part liquid bleach and 3 parts water. Spray the solution on the areas needing treatment and rinse thoroughly with water. Always read the cleaning product manufacturer s specific information before using any product on your AZEK Siding and follow their instructions. It is also a good idea to test the cleaner on a scrap piece or small inconspicuous area of the siding to make sure it does not harm the surface. DO NOT USE high pressure power washers, abrasive cleaners, solvents, or stiff bristled scrub brushes, as damage to the siding surface could occur. If there are any questions about a specific cleaner, stubborn stain, or any other concern, please AZEK Customer Service at info@azek.com or call 877-ASK-AZEK for further assistance. Field Paint Application Use a premium 100% Acrylic exterior paint for field application on AZEK primed or prefinished siding (such as Sherwin-Williams Exterior SuperPaint, Resillience or Duration). Sherwin-Williams Exterior SuperPaint Low Luster closely matches the gloss level of AZEK Siding prefinished gloss. Prior to painting, the AZEK Siding surface must be clean and dry. Refer back to the Care & Cleaning section for cleaning details. For best results, do not field apply paint if rain or snow is expected. Refer to the paint manufacturer s product data page for specific application instructions. General application methods include airless spray (preferred), brush or roller. For airless spray, apply paint around 2,000 psi and with a tip (.017 preferred) Page 11
