15 Recent work in APFS: Terrestrial Code Salmonellosis in poultry Chapters revised to include measures at the animal/farm level to protect human and animal health Ch Prevention, detection and control of Salmonella in poultry (adopted in 2009) recommendations relevant to the control of all Salmonella in poultry with special attention to S. Enteritidis and S. Typhimurium Amendments adopted in 2014 Ch Biosecurity procedures in poultry production (adopted in 2011) general recommendations for control of infectious agents in poultry that affect animal and/or human health.

Infection with Echinococcus granulosus - adopted in 2013 Ch 8.5. Infection with E. multilocularis - adopted in 2013 Ch Infection with Trichinella spp. - adopted in developed in close collaboration with Codex
17 Adopted at 2014 General Session Brucellosis chapters revised Chapter 8.X. Infection with Brucella abortus, B. melitensis and B. suis adopted at the 82nd General Session in May 2014 will replace Chapters (bovine), (caprine and ovine) and (porcine).
18 Under development Infection with Taenia solium an OIE listed disease; new chapter was developed by an AHG; Circulated for Member Countries comments in Feb report of the Terrestrial Code Commission; Important: Submit comments to the OIE, if relevant to your country prior to 8 August 2014.
19 In progress / future work Salmonella in pigs ad hoc Group to meet in Sept to draft new chapter; Salmonella in cattle work will follow work in pigs; Work to be undertaken in parallel with proposed new work by Codex on nontyphoidal Salmonella spp. in beef and pork meat.
20 How does OIE decide what pathogens to develop standards for? OIE listed diseases i.e. that meet the criteria for inclusion on the OIE list (Chapter 1.2) e.g. Brucellosis, E.granulsosus, Trichinella, Porcine cysticercosis OR Pathogens important to Codex that can be controlled at the farm level e.g. Salmonella spp. in poultry, Salmonella in pigs and cattle
21 What you can do to participate in these standard developments? Review Reports of the Terrestrial Code Commission for any work relevant for APFS, e.g. draft chapter on T.solium and future work on Salmonella in pigs and cattle. NOTE: FPs should also communicate with Codex Contact Points in food safety in your country to coordinate standard setting activities of OIE and Codex at the national level, e.g. Salmonella work.
