Butterfly Newsletter Dates- Monday 2nd June - Wednesday 22nd July Alice in Wonderland This is to be the last 1/2 term for many of our butterflies who will be leaving us to start infant school in September- so we have planned a fantastic term full of fun and exciting games and activities - and we will creating special memories to treasure as we go off on our exciting adventures with Alice to Wonderland. Each week we will be meeting crazy characters such as the Mad Hatter, the Cheshire Cat and the white rabbit. We will be exploring this weird and wonderful world where there is lots of silly nonsense going on, as each week we will be re telling and acting out our own version of the story. We will be posting our story week by week on our website- so you can carry on reading this at home with your child and let them share what they have been learning with you. ************************************************************************************************************** Competition - create a weird, wonderful or mad hat at home. Come wearing it on week 5 for our Mad Hatter's Tea Party. There will be a prize for the winning hat as well as a special treat for everyone who takes part. Week 1- Down the rabbit hole. This week Alice dreams of her own magical world and follows the white rabbit ( who is running fast because he's very very late ) down the rabbit hole. She drinks from the bottle that says "drink me" and shrinks so that she can fit through the small door, before being swept up in an ocean of tears- which carries her into the strange and wonderful world.
We will be playing a fun 'eat me, drink me game' where we will be shrinking and growing and also a game of matching number keys to the different door locks to see which one fits We will be creating our own 'my world' dream stories- describing what we would like in our own magical world as well as creating this world using paints and collage materials. We will also be making white rabbit pocket watches for a special 'time in wonderland' keepsake. Week 2- Tweedledum and Tweedledee. This week we will be meeting Tweedledum and Tweedledee - the identical twins. We will be playing a Tweedledum and Tweedledee identical actions game.we will be pairing up with a friend and taking turns to copy the different actions and exercise movements they are performing. We will also be taking part in lots of identical challenges such as constructing matching towers with the blocks, creating the same sound patterns with the instruments and creating symmetrical paintings. As it is Fathers a Day on Sunday we will be creating our own cards for our Dads or Grandads and making them special 'eat me' cookies. Week 3- the enchanted garden This week we will be meeting the big blue caterpillar and the talking flowers in the wonderland garden. We will be learning the life cycle of a butterfly and learning how flowers grow using books, jigsaws and sequence picture cards. We will be exploring our garden to see what mini beasts we can find there and also discovering the different plants, herbs and flowers using our senses. We will be creating beautiful butterflies, growing flowers and singing in our flower garden choir.
We will be learning names of lots of flowers and creating pictures to show, if we were flowers, which we would be? We will also be making a flower chart to see which of our flower named rooms are the children's favourite. Do they like the pansies pretend room the best, or maybe the roses reading room. Or even the marigold messy room. They will be taking their own photos using the digital camera of their favourite room and this will be stuck in their special memory book with a list of all the things they enjoy doing the most in their favourite room. Week 4- the Cheshire Cat. Whilst continuing her search for the white rabbit, Alice meets the Cheshire Cat this week. We will be painting our own Cheshire Cat pictures and talking about what makes us smile. We will be taking part in lots of activities about different emotions, including circle games and dancing along to our 'fabby dabby dee' feelings c.d. We will also be making giant Cheshire Cat smiles on sticks, which we will be making ourselves with paper, scissors and sticky tape.we will then use these to sing our Cheshire Cat disappearing song. The boys and girls who are leaving to go to school will be helping to make their transition books to share with their new teacher and drawing portraits of themselves( with Cheshire Cat smiles) on the front page. Week 5- Mad Hatter's Tea party. There are 365 days in a year. We have only 1 birthday- but we have 364 un birthdays. All week we will be enjoying our own pretend un birthday tea parties with the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the dormouse. We will also be extending this activity in the garden- and outdoors we will be creating ' silly nonsense ' pretend food and drinks to serve. As a special keepsake we will be designing our own porcelain tea cups to take home.
Week 6- We're painting the roses red. This week we reach the Queen of Hearts garden and we will be playing games of croquet in our garden with our friends as well as painting all the silk white roses that have been planted red. Indoors we will be making playing cards and having lots of fun as we count and match the numbers and shapes on the cards. We will also be joining in our new "off with your head" counting game, as we wear playing card tabards( that we create ourselves) In the craft room we will be decorating the queens hearts and giving these to a special friend. Week 7- That's enough nonsense! This week Alice is chased by all the story characters she has met in Wonderland. She goes back through the little door and finds herself back in her own little garden, where she has woken up from her silly, but wonderful dream. We will be recalling all the story that we have been telling over the last 7 weeks and writing all about our favourite bits as well as painting our favourite characters. Week 8. This week is our fun week. The children will be playing with all their favourite toys and activities that they choose. All the story props and costumes will be set up in the role play room so that they can act out Alice in Wonderland with their friends. On the final week we will be having a special farewell party in wonderland for all the boys and girls who will be leaving to go to Infant school. This will be held at Alfreton Memorial Hall across the road. Details will follow at a later date- when invitations will be sent out and tickets will go on sale.
Please note- this is only for the school leavers as we are restricted to numbers, but the children who are not leaving will have their own dreamy day pyjama party at Pre School and will be taking part in fun games and activities as well as having party food at snack time. ( they will get the chance to have their own special party and presentation next year when they too leave to go to school) *************************************************************************************************************** Reminders- anyone wishing to attend during the Summer holidays- please book as soon as possible to ensure you get a place as numbers are limited. booked places must be signed for and payments will need to be paid in advance. Children who are still with us after the the Summer- please confirm the days and hours you would like to attend. We will be holding a parents/ carers day this 1/2 term where you will be invited to come along and speak to your child's key worker about their progress and development. Details will follow shortly. Don't forget to check out our website each week to see what the children have been doing..
