Standard of the Bi- Color and Parti Poodle STANDARD OF THE BI- COLOR AND PARTI POODLE History of the Bi- Color and Parti Poodle: The Poodle is one of the oldest breeds, but they have never been able to trace the true origin. Certain is that the single color and bi- color parti poodle have a similar history. The "primal poodle" which is called also the "Great Water Dog 'was plain black or white or white with black spots, known as" parti color. "From these ancestors we find more dogs in these colors similar to Poodles in Lion Groom. We find these dogs already back on Roman and Greek art. The country of origin is, according to ancient scriptures, in Germany, Russia or England. Some even claim that the ancestor of the Poodle is from North West Africa, and still others say he comes from Spain or Portugal, or even from Greece. Probably all poodles descend from these dogs. And in any case this proves that the ancestors of the Poodle were bicolor! The experts come to this conclusion following the papers of Konrad Gessner and Dr. Fitinger from The ancestor of the poodle was not just black or white, but white with black markings. In time, these markings or platings disappeared, around this time the first white Poodle has been observed in England. Not much later the black Great Poodle nobility emerged in Russia, but at least 50% of these monochromatic black poodles had a white spot on the chest, a white spot on the lip or one or more white toes, which to date still may occur. And therefore, since the Standard of the Poodle was founded in 1880 in Berlin, has been established that there should be bred only with the one colored Poodles. Later they settled in France in 1936 based on this standard. If one breeds with two black individuals, it can occur by mutation that there are two colored dogs born again. If a solid colored dog would be bred to a two- color, it will be only after the third generation that a bicolored litter with
the real genes of a harlequin poodle will be born. When we continue with these breeds it looks that the spots are recessive. From documents from 1955 the experts agreed that the spots we see in the ancestor of the poodle are not the result of crosses but could only appear when both two- colored poodles mated. George Stubbs ( ) was a famous artist. His paintings have been exhibited in art galleries all over the world. He was the first British painter who painted the animals in real life. The photo of the Poodle «Vulcan Champagne Polka- Dot" made in 1953 looks a lot like the painting of the artist from Mrs. Jane Lines of kennel «Nunsoe" in England, was one of the first to breed Great Harlequin Poodles. «Hayes Blake Hoy", was the most popular Harlequin Poodle in Most of the poodles of the kennel «Vulcan» from England come from this line. Multiple monochromatic poodles from the Vulcan line carry the genes of the Harlequin Poodle, and often, even when both monochrome poodles are crossed harlequin pups were obtained by the strong line of "Vulcan Champagne Wopper». In November 1964, the last puppy in the kennel "Vulcan" was born. Fortunately there were other known breeders that fell in love with these bicolored poodles and they kept on breeding them. Thanks to these enthusiastic breeders, the Parti Color went not into oblivion, like the Standard in 1880 would have wished. The first standard in Germany of this color variety was prepared by Mrs. Eckstein (Honorary President of ADP), given that, in 1959, after crossing two black poodles monochromatic, bicolor pups where obtained. At a Congress of a scientific committee, the two- color version was presented to the FCI. The FCI claimed that Mrs.Eckstein would have to prove this over a period of then generations.
Mrs. Eckstein succeeded in this in 1980, basing it from the default of 1959 and could thus generalize the conditions for breeding and shows. For all breeders from all countries, the SC VOE donates recognition for their work and gives pedigrees. ORIGIN: Appeared in different countries. DATE OF PUBLICATION OF THE OFFICIAL STANDARD: point made by fans of the breed and all European clubs: UCI CLASSIFICATION: pending GROUP 9: Companion and Toy Dogs Without working trial BI- COLOR AND PARTI POODLE GENERAL APPEARANCE: Dog of proportional type, breed typical frizz, curls or cords. Lively and intelligent appearance, alert and listening to their master. Elegant and proud type, which give him the "popular" nickname "ROYAL" for the Great Poodle. Harmoniously built. IMPORTANT PROPORTIONS: The length of the muzzle of the skull is about 9/10ths of the saddle. (Note that for too long and / or fine nose since, this often makes for missing teeth). The length of the body is slightly longer than the height. The height is almost equal to the height of the ground to the cross. The height of the elbow to the ground is 5/9ths of the withers. BEHAVIOUR / CHARACTER: Faithful dog, intelligent, soft, casual and cheerful, this makes the Poodle a very pleasant companion.
Head Sophisticated, rectangular in proportion to the body. The head should be well formed and not too heavy or too fine (note missing teeth related to too little chin) Cranium Well formed. The width is less than half of the length of the head. Shows the top of the skull was observed as a whole appears as a horizontal oval in the longitudinal direction viewed from the side, while it is slightly convex. The longitudinal axes run slightly from each other. Moderately prominent brow covered with long hair. The frontal furrow is broad between the eyes, and reduces to the direction of the mind. The occiput is very pronounced. Among dwarfs may stop slightly less pronounced. FACIAL REGION Nose Black or brown (chestnut to liver) without spots. Vertical profile developed with open nostrils. lips Straight nose bridge, the length of which is approximately 9/10ths of the length of the skull. The side view of the muzzle is determined by the lower jaw, which is parallel to the upper jaw and by the length of the stop to the occiput. The muzzle looks sturdy and graceful but not pointed. LIPS Poorly developed, fairly dry and average thickness. The upper lip rests on the lip without depending. The desired color is black or brown pigment in function of the color patches. The mouth should not be sharply defined.
JAWS AND TEETH Normal closing complete scissor bite with strong teeth. Under overbite, under bite and tang bite are serious faults and are not tolerated. Attention is also paid to the quality of the enamel of the teeth. CHEEKS: Not protruding, close to the bones. The lower Eye arches are delicate and not very full. The poorly developed chewing muscles form the anatomical basis of the cheeks and jawbones protruding a little bit. EYES: Attentive expression. The eyes are placed at the height of the stop and stand somewhat obliquely in the head. They are almond shaped. The eyes are black, brown, green or amber in color. EYELIDS The edges of the eyelids are colored according to the color of the markings. Black on the black / white, gray and white, black / tan, black / silver and brown on the brown / white, brown and tan and white / red and white / apricot. Small spots are accepted. EARS Fairly long, depending on the cheeks, is turned on the extended line, which begins at the top of the nose. Slightly widened after the onset and rounded towards the apex. The ears are covered with very long wavy hair. The leather of the ear should at least reach out to the corners and no longer than the nose. NECK Sturdy construction and strong, slightly curved and the neck of moderate length. Well proportioned. Head held high and proudly worn. No dewlap. THE BODY
Well balanced. The body length is slightly larger than the height. WITTERS Moderately developed BACK Harmonic outlined and briefly. The height from the ground to the withers is practically the same as that from the ground to the cross. LOIN Strong and muscular. GRID Rounded but not downward FORE BREAST The point of the sternum protrudes slightly and somewhat high. BREST The depth of the chest reaches the elbows bent and the width is about 2/3rds of chest depth. In large poodles, the chest just behind the shoulders measured at least ten centimeters longer than the height. The cross section is oval and wide in the back. Poodles should not be too skinny. ABDOMEN AND FLANKS Raised without being to whippety. THE TAIL Rather high. In action the tail is obliquely erected. The tail may touch the back but may not make a full turn. The tail should not lay flat or in a corkscrew shape.
LIMBS: Forehand Perfectly straight and parallel, well muscled with good bone. The length of elbow to ground is slightly more than half the shoulder height. Shoulders Sloping and well muscled. The blade of the upper arm forms an angle of 110. Upper arm The length of the upper arm is equal to the length of the shoulder blade. Wrist Straight and in line with the rest of the front leg. Metacarpus Strong and almost vertical viewed from the side. Feet Rather small, robust and oval in shape. The toes are well arched and closed properly. The pads are thick and hard. The nails are preferably black with black and tan and black silver. Brown or black with brown and tan or silver. Black, brown or white in dogs with a white base color and stains. Hindquarters Running parallel seen from behind. The muscles are well developed and highly visible. The hock joints relatively well angulated. The angulation in hip, knee and foot are visible. Thigh Well muscled and strong.
Centre footing Rather short and erect. Poodles would be born without dewclaws on the hind legs. Feet Equal to advance. Feet, see front feet. Gait / Movement The poodle has a resilient and nimble gait. Skin Supple, not loose, tinted. The two- tone poodles have to have a pigmentation in accordance with the color of their coat FLEECE The frizzy poodle: A composition of fine abundant hair, woolly, resilient and resistant to pressure by hand. The coat should be very thick and dense. The cord poodle: A wealth of hair, fine composition, woolly and dense, which is characteristic strings of equal length. These serve at least 20 cm long. The longer they are the more they are appreciated. The cords on either side of the head with a strap may be held above the ears, the cords of the body on both sides of dividing, in order to avoid a disordered coat.
COLOR BI- COLOR AND PARTI BICOLOR: Toy, Miniature Poodle and Central Battle - > Black / White or "Harlequin" Color distribution: 60% white and 40% black. (Once the limbs are white we have a good approach division). With a black head or white "flame" in the toupee. White cheeks and chin white are allowed. The "Point Allen" pattern is tolerated (markings on eyebrows, loins, and a few hairs on the ears and tail). This is on obtained by crossing poodles 2 bicolor (black / white and black / tan) to improve the structure the coat in the black an white s. Some offspring will have the endorsement and some are carriers of the markings. The endorsement can occur in litters from parents without these markings. At birth, the markings are tan in color, but white around the twelfth week. These markings are tolerated if they are white in color. Individuals who do not meet these standards (body too white - too pronounced flame - white band on the head - too much white on the muzzle - white ear, ear or partially white -...) may be bred but not without taking precautions ( see breeding charter). "Ticking" (small spots) on the limbs or other body parts are not seen as wrong, but their presence is less desirable. These stains come by the introgression of gray poodles by the British in The three varieties are as follows: Tuxedo (black back, with or without white collar). The back is covered with a jacket other than the color white. A white collar around the neck. A white belly that runs from the collar and extends up to the legs (in such a way that this is a continuous white zone from front to back). But the Tuxedo can also only have white paws, or the white cannot run farter. "Ticking" on the legs is not desirable, but is allowed. The picture below shows a perfectly marked tuxedo, white is lively and covered all parts drawn, and are clearly defined.
Jacket «Spotted» (minimum 3 black spots on the body) TOY, MINIATURE POODLE OR MEDIUM SIZE - > BLACK / TAN (The Black / Silver has recently admitted on the show) Color proportions: 80% black and 20% Tan. The "Tan" must be evenly browned to wheat, gold or colored sand. The body is all the same color black, and only markings on eyebrows, under the tail, inside and bottom of front and rear are allowed. The head should be marked with a "phantom" mask, and a few hairs on the ears. One finds a butterfly drawing on the chest. The top of the feet should be tan with or without black markings on toes, but the colors must remain well defined. The markings must be clearly defined as possible. On show will the dogs physical appearance is preferred over the markings.
PARTI COLOR: The study about the color genes is constantly evolving. This Standard, in the course of time is to be adjusted. 1) PARTI: INDIVIDUAL WITH A WHITE BASE AND STAINS IN A DIFFERENT COLOR. Toy, miniature poodles and middle size: not Harlequin (black / white) or black / tan since 3-4 since generations. Large poodles à can never be referred to as "bicolor" while they have too much color genes. Since the breeding recommenced with white / black and black / tan individuals, the breeders' of mulit colours try to fix the color genes. In the Great Poodles, this is still very difficult. The genes of the Parti colors are too varied for the moment. The dogs carry the genes for different colors and since several generations. Two white / black can generate offspring: white / black, white / gray, white / chocolate, white / apricot,... this is because they have several generations of dogs where different colors are combined. black / white blue / white gray / white brindle / white chocolate / white red / white apricot / white - > White with black spots - > White chocolate brown spots
- > White with apricot spots (champagne to light orange) - > White with gray spots (bright blue or gray) - > White with red spots - > White with "brindle", "sable" or "merle" spots Colour Proportions: Minimum 50% white. It also prefers to have dogs with white legs and a tai 2) "TUXEDO":
The back is covered with a jacket other than the color white. A white collar around the neck is allowed. A white belly that of the collar extends up to the legs (in such a way that this is a continuous white zone is from front to back). But the Tuxedo can only have white paws, white without going further. "Ticking" on the legs is not desirable, but if they are not allowed to be domineering The picture below shows a perfectly marked tuxedo, white is lively and covered all parts drawn, and are clearly defined. 3) "PHANTOMS" They are patterned as the Black / Tans. On the show they are judged in a separate class. All colors are permitted as long as a 80% - 20% proportion is respected. 4) "BRINDLE", "SABLE" OR, "MERLE» The genes of these colors are very unstable and are only allowed to breed under certain conditions (these colors come from combination of specific genes) These colors are allowed, but must be judged in a separate class 5) THE "MISMARK» (ABSTRACT) is not bi or parti color but there carry the genes.
These individuals may have white markings on the chin, throat, tip of the legs, chest and tail tip. They may be mated with a bicolor if he himself derived therefrom, or with a parti color, if made of a parti color. On conditions that each generation with a bi or parti- color has been mated. There should be showing them, but also in a separate class. FOR THE SHOW Bicolor White / Black by sex à CAC + CACIB, Best of Breed (BOB) Bicolor Black / Tan à CAC + CACIB by sex, Best of Breed (BOB) Parti Color to stain à CAC + CACIB by sex, Best of Breed (BOB) Tuxedo à CAC + CACIB by sex, Best of Breed (BOB) Phantom à CAC + CACIB by sex, Best of Breed (BOB) Brindle, sable or merle à CAC + CACIB by sex Mismark à CAC An individual without a pedigree that offers himself at a pre selection, he only gets a pedigree as a "GOOD" assessment board is received. An individual may only serve to breed if obtained a "VERY GOOD" rating. An individual who has a "fail" will receive no pedigree. Format Poodle (Standard Poodle) 45cm above the limit without going over (the dogs from the USA are often much higher) but the proportions must remain harmonious. Attempts are maintained to follow the European directive and a maximum of 60 cm with a tolerance of 2 cm. Characteristics of giant growth are not desirable.
The poodle should be an enlarged and developed reproduction of the Miniature poodle, retaining the same properties. Miniature Poodle: Above 35 cm to 45cm Dwarf Poodle: Above 28cm to 35 cm The dwarf poodle should give the same appearance as a medium size poodle, smaller but similar as much as possible while keeping the same proportions, without dwarfism. Toy poodles Under 28 cm (ideal to pursue size is 25 cm). The toy poodle must give the same appearance as the dwarf poodle and respond to the same general proportions and to any requirement of the standard. Each presentation of dwarfism is excluded, but the occiput may be less developed. ERRORS: Any deviation from these should be considered a fault being in proper proportion to its severity. Roach or saddle Stop too pronounced or absent. Too small nose, not open enough. &xtoo big nose, or light colored (except for brown / white, apricot / white nose where the liver may be). Too thin or pointed snout Prognathisme is a mistake that should be judged according to its severity. Teeth: «Carré teeth» (Yellowed teeth due to distemper) is not an error if the bite is correct. An irregular teeth or missing teeth are a fault which must be judged according to the seriousness of the irregularity. All incisors, canines, premolars and the first two molars should be present in the mandible. A missing PM1 is not penalized. With two missing PM1: Maximum review: "Excellent." With three missing premolars (3 PM1 or 2 PM1 PM2 + 1): Maximum review: "Very Good".
The absence of a Molar 1 or 2 (M1 or M2) in the upper jaw, or a Molar 2 or 3 in the lower jaw is not penalized. Too big, too small, too round eyes. Not dark enough or a red appearance (except for brown / black, apricot / white or black / tan, which depends on the angle of the main a "red" (or otherwise colored) appearance can perceive). Ears too short, too narrow or backwards To strongly sloping croup Tail lying flat on the back, too fine or too strong back turned. Too high on legs Not enough angulation in the hindquarters. Flowing or extended gait Not enough general pigmentation, absence of pigmentation around the eyes. Lack of fur around the eyes. Thin, soft or too hard hair Individuals with dwarfism can not get "Excellent" achievement. The sign and include:ound head, too pronounced stop, round eyes, too short and pointed snout, short mandible, missing chin. s ELIMINATING FAULTS: If the dog is showing any of these errors, they will receive no pedigree or is labeled "Do not conform to the breed standard or unfit for breeding purposes" Too aggressive or fearful dog. Lack of type in the main Prognathisme in upper or lower jaw. Missing incisors. Missing canines. Corkscrew tail Dog with no or short tail Dewclaws or traces of dewclaws in the rear Less than 23 cm for Toys Too fine in bone
