The LUT420 is a Level Controller, used for level with volume calculation. It has basic pump control functions, and basic data logging capability. The LUT430 is a Level, Pump, and Flow Controller. It has all of the features of the LUT420 plus advanced control routines, including energy saving algorithms, a full suite of advanced pump control and alarm functionality, open channel flow monitoring, and basic flow data logging capability. The LUT440 is a High Accuracy OCM Controller. It has all of the features of the LUT430 plus the industry s best accuracy ( 1 mm within 3 meters). Is the SITRANS LUT400 available in a dual point version? A. No. The LUT400 is a single point controller only that is compatible with the ST-H and Echomax series of transducers. Q. Can I synchronize the LUT400 with other Milltronics controllers? A. Yes. The LUT400 can be synchronized with most Milltronics controllers, with the exception of the MultiRanger Plus (7ML1020), the original HydroRanger (7ML1022), and the OCMIII (7ML1002). Q. How do I program the LUT400? A. The preferred method for programming the LUT400 is through the Local User Interface (LUI display and local push buttons), and through most standard configuration tools, such as SIMATIC PDM, PACTware, Fieldcare and AMS Device Manager. The LUT400 can also be programmed via the web browser interface. Q. What is the purpose of the USB service port? firmware. A. The USB port can be used for configuring your LUT400 via the web browser interface on your computer, extracting datalog files for evaluation, and as a service port for updating device

3 3 Q. How do I activate the Web Browser? A. The Web Browser interface and a USB driver must be installed on a computer. The driver and installation file can be found on the DVD shipped with the device, and on the product page of our website. Go to and click on Support>Software Downloads. Once the software is installed and the driver and COM port set-up complete, simply click on the LUT400 icon on your desktop to quickly activate the web browser and connect to your LUT400. Q. What can I do with the Web Browser? A. The Web Browser is a simple configuration tool that can be used for commissioning your SITRANS LUT400, viewing and editing parameter values, and for reading process variables and device status, including alarms and relay states. Q. Can I use my existing coax/rg transducer cabling? A. No. The LUT400 is designed to work with shielded two-wire transducer cables to improve performance in noisy applications. Q. Do I need a hand programmer? A. No. A hand programmer is not required to program the LUT400. All programming is done locally via the device Local User Interface (LUI display and local push buttons), or remotely using various software packages, such as SIMATIC PDM. Q. I need to enlarge the cable entry holes on the LUT400 for my cables. Can I do this, and if so, how do I enlarge them? A. Yes. The LUT400 is designed to fit both M20 cable glands and ½ NPT threaded conduit. If you need to enlarge entry holes, a ¾ step drill bit may be used. Note: It is the installer s responsibility to maintain IP65 rating of entry holes if alternate cable glands are used. Q. I am replacing my OCMIII with the LUT400. How can I log my flows? A. You can use the integrated Datalogger in the LUT400, or use the SITRANS RD500, depending upon your communication requirements. Q. Is Flow Reporter required to extract my datalog files from the LUT400? A. No. The LUT400 has an integrated Data Logging feature that is easy to use, and replaces the need for Flow Reporter. Extracting datalog files is as simple as connecting a computer via the USB port to the LUT400 and dragging and dropping the files from the LUT400 to the computer.

4 4 Q. How do I extract the datalog files from my LUT400? A. Data logs may be extracted via the USB port on the device. When a USB cable is connected between the LUT400 and a computer, the LUT400 will appear as an external drive on the computer. Simply select, drag and drop the files (.txt) from the LUT400 drive folder into a folder on your computer. If data logging files need to be emptied, the original files on the LUT400 drive can be deleted and the device will recreate the folders when data logging restarts (after USB cable has been disconnected). Q. What is minimum datalog interval? A. The LUT400 supports data logging intervals from a minimum rate of 1 minute to a maximum of 24 hours. Q. What temperature sensors can be used with the LUT400? A. The LUT400 is designed for use with the Siemens TS-3 external temperature sensor. Q. What is the battery used for on the LUT400? A. The battery is used only to back-up the real-time clock during a power outage. Q. Can a LUT400 DC version be converted into an AC version, or visa versa? A. No. Each unit is equipped with specific hardware and cannot be exchanged in the field. Q. How do I perform a Firmware upgrade? A. A factory-supplied software program (self executable.exe file) must be downloaded to the user s computer to perform an upgrade. Once downloaded, connect the computer to the LUT400 using the USB port and a standard USB-B to USB-Mini B cable. Once connected, run the.exe file and follow the prompts. Siemens recommends that all outdoor field mounted products are installed with a sun shield to minimize the ambient temperature of the device, and to protect the enclosure and display from environmental attack and impacts. An optional sunshield designed for the LUT400 is available. Q. I can't read my display in direct sunlight. Is the display adjustable? A. Yes. The display has a contrast adjustment and can be modified (see Operating Instructions). In addition, the backlight may be turned ON (always ON), ON for a timed period (5 minutes from last button press), or OFF as required. How many LUT400 devices can I connect to from my computer via Internet Explorer? A. You can connect your computer to any LUT400 device, but only one LUT400 at a time.

6 6 Q. Can the LUT400 be wired for HART Multidrop? A. Yes. Using the passive HART communications terminals and by providing power from an external source on the ma loop, it is possible to multidrop with this device. No. The LUT400 does not support SmartLinx modules. The unit comes standard with HART communication onboard. Q. What is a Figure of Merit (FOM)? A. FOM is a value assigned to the quality of the reported process value (echo). The LUT400 generates FOM based on a number of criteria including the historical confidence, noise, echo strength, and quality of tracking (ability to predict next level reading). It is a percentage based measurement and can be interpreted as follows: FOM greater than 75% = good quality, FOM less than 50% = poor quality. If FOM is low, check the installation or reduce the noise in the process to increase signal quality. Q. How do I use the LUI (Local User Interface) to backup programming? A. The operating parameters are automatically backed up in the LUI during programming and every hour thereafter. To perform a manual backup, or if fault code 132 PARAMS REQUIRE BACKUP is displayed and you want display programming to match device programming, access parameter Backup Control, and select the relevant option. Q. What trending capability does the LUT400 have? A. The unit calculates trends and locally displays the last 3000 measurements. Trends are taken at a fixed interval of five minutes and are scaled from 0 to 100% of the measurement range. Once the trend line has reached its capacity, it will overwrite the oldest data and capture the latest information.

7 7 Q. How can I view trends from the device on my computer? A. The trend on the Local User Interface (LUI) is used for local diagnostics. It is possible to recreate these trends on your computer using the data from the LUT400 integrated Datalogger to build a chart in a spreadsheet program (such as MS Excel). Q. Which open channel flumes and weirs are supported by the LUT400 series? A. The SITRANS LUT430 and LUT440 support 13 Primary Measuring Devices (PMDs), including the most common British Standard (BS3680) devices. (See Operating Instructions for a list.)
