1 PLANNING & VISIONING/EXECUTIVE MEETING Video Conference via Zoom, March 7, 2016 Attendance! Order of Ministry: Frank Lewis; Chair, David Boyd, Kim Horwood,! Ivy Thomas, Conference Minister!! Lay: Jody Dudley, Guy Duchaine, Sheila McDonald,! Carol Patton, Secretary! Regrets: Jean Daniels, Authority: This meeting of Kootenay Presbytery Planning and Visioning Team (PVT) was held at the call of the chairperson, Frank Lewis, by the authority of the previous Full Court meeting held at Windermere Valley Shared Ministry, November 6, 2015, Invermere, BC. A quorum was present. Call to Order; Frank Lewis called the meeting at 10:05/11:05am (Pacific Standard time(pst)/ Mountain Standard time(mst) to order. Ivy Thomas, Acting Conference Minister said a prayer. The meeting was conducted via ZOOM video conference. Check-in: members shared events happening in their lives over recent weeks Approval of Agenda: MOTION: MSC Jody Dudley, Guy Duchaine, as circulated with additions Approval of Minutes: Minutes of February 2, 2016 as circulated by . MOTION: MSC Carol Patton, Jody Dudley. Announcements: Covenanting Service for Paula Ashby was held in Creston at the RotaCrest Hall, Covenanting Service for Sunny Kim was held in Kimberley. Both services went well. Ivy announced The Holy Shift - Spirit Rising. Equipping Leaders for Change with Jason Byasee, John Pentland, Deb Bowman and Prominent Conference Leaders April 22-24, Vernon BC. Correspondence Report: RECEIVED FOR INFORMATION : Attached as Appendix 1. Thank you letters were received from Robin Murray and Caroline Rogers, current theological students, for monetary gifts received from Presbytery.

Jody Dudley, Chair of Support to Congregations Team presented the theme Caring in a Complex world for the Spring and Fall 2016 gatherings. Ivy Thomas will be our resource, convening 2 or 3 sessions on Pastoral Care within the Presbytery. These sessions will involve Panel presentations on Pastoral care and how it is provided in different communities, Question and Answer sessions and workshops. 2. MOTION: m/s/c Guy Duchaine/David Boyd. that Planning and Visioning Team (PVT) approve the attendance of non presbytery delegates for pastoral care workshop with funding provided from MIssion Support Grants. 3. More Planning for Spring Meeting in Nakusp.!!! - Frank Lewis will check with Hilary Bitten who will deliver Sunday!!! morning sermon. - Jody Dudley!will confirm the presence of the book display at Spring Presbytery from Woodlake books with Donald Schmidt.!!!!! - David Boyd and Carol Patton will provide a Consensus Motion for opening of business meeting. 4. Worship Leaders!!! Friday Evening with Communion, David Boyd!!! Saturday Morning, Guy Duchaine, Nakusp!!! Saturday Evening Youth, Michelle Matson to confirm!!! Saturday afternoon Theological Reflection. Paula Ashby to confirm. 5. Beaver Valley (BV) developing as a new pastoral charge. Ivy Thomas gave an update. She encouraged Beaver Valley to have conversation with all concerned. It was recommended that Michael Hare give them guidance with bylaws and constitution. They are looking at the possibility and implications for a Sacraments Elder. Retired clergy could also possibly serve to provide communion and baptism. Beaver Valley are happy to be on their own. PVT and Presbytery will act if called upon by Beaver Valley. Presbytery will take the vote at Spring Presbytery to give approval for Beaver Valley to go ahead with separation. 6. PVT membership for Greg Powell has agreed to step in as Chair and Sheila McDonald will serve as Treasurer. 7. Conference Minister for Kootenay Presbytery Update. David Boyd reported Posting still open.
3 " March 7, 2016 The future of Mission Support -Spring conference call is coming up. 8. BC Conference meeting in Nelson Update.[David] meeting end of May. Opportunity for Presbytery to come and talk about our issues. Congregations should be allowed to send reps.. Purpose is to engage people of this area. 9. Building capacity in our Congregations.[Frank]Nothing to report. Looking at regional gatherings. 10. Frank Lewis and Sheila MacDonald left the meeting. David Boyd assumed the chair. 11. The future of Mission Support: We need to look at other events, possibly in June since there is no conference this year.. Presbytery wide event. i.e. Festival of faith moving into Fall. perhaps Mid October, with President Keith Simmonds, involving Fall Presbytery. 12. October 14th was chosen for Fall Presbytery in Fernie. Frank Lewis will check with Fernie, and Jody Dudley will check with Keith Simmonds for availability. 13. BC Conference Executive meeting in Nelson Update. David Boyd reported it be the last weekend in May. Not much information available as yet Building capacity in our Congregations. Frank Lewis talked about looking at possibilities of helping congregations to deal with smaller numbers of ministers and smaller source of funds available for full time worship and pastoral care. Frank Lewis reports we still have funds from MIssion support grant. These funds are available and we are obligated to use them. Next steps would be to contact Allen Buckingham from Banff.
