How to update the PAC device 1. Connection settings: Please check your communication settings like it is shown in the screenshot. powerconfig-communication_settings.jpg Communication Device Interface: PC Interface: Ethernet Interface IP Address: Subnet Mask: Gateway: Protocol: MAC Address: Define the interface for the communication with the PAC Connection to the PC by Ethernet Unique IP Address The device has to be in the right network area with the same subnet. Gateway is not required MODBUS TCP The MAC address is fixed and cannot be changed
Windows Local Area Connection Settings: You can define any IP address but you have to ensure that the IP address is in the right subnet! Please have a look on the windows local area connection IPv4 settings: Furthermore please deactivate the local area connection IPv6:
Please note: The update of the device won t be working if the device is not in private IP network area. Another important point to consider is the network interface card. You have to define the direction of communication between PAC and the right network interface card. If more than one network interface card is available, only the network interface card may be activated which is relevant for the communication with the PAC device. So please deactivate all irrelevant network interface cards which are not important for the communication with the PAC device. Please ensure that your network interface card is able to do crossover. If there is no crossover function: - Take a switch with crossover function - Take a Crossover Ethernet Cable Please take also care of following points: Is any firewall on the operating system active? What switches did you install? Are the switches intelligent switches? You have to open following ports for the switches and also firewall: TCP-Port (Communication by Modbus TCP) UDP-Port (for broadcast to the devices) TCP-Port (Only PAC4200 with gateway function for expansion slot 1) TCP-Port (Only PAC4200 with gateway function for expansion slot 2) - 69 TFTP/UDP-Port (Only necessary for PAC3200 firmware update by powerconfig) The ports have to be opened explicit for outgoing and incoming rules with the exact port number. Also outgoing and incoming rules have to be checked for intermediary components (between PC and PAC e.g. Router). So please write the exact port number. Attention: If there are any intelligent switches (e.g. with integrated firewalls or communication management) which could block the protocol, please open the described ports for these switches, too. Otherwise the connection will not be able to work.
2. Description how you can update the PAC device Please pay attention that the switched ethernet/profinet module or any communication module (if available) is not plugged while the firmware update! During the firmware update the connection to the PAC device must not be interrupted because the device could be destroyed irreversible. So please avoid all interrupting influences! We would recommend deactivating the firewall. Additionally open the ports! Realize a connection with a normal 10/100 mbit switch like netgear, D-Link, etc. (no intelligent Gigabit switch please) (For updating the switched Ethernet module, please plug it on the PAC device. Only update the module firmware after updating the PAC device firmware.) Please try to use a PC independent from the network, without any firewall or communication blocking tools. In case you are using a Siemens-PC with CAT-Client there can be administration restrictions which can also cause problems during updates and communication. Please follow the steps 1-3 how you can realize the firmware update by powerconfig. 1. powerconfig Search for device
2. powerconfig Create Device 3. powerconfig Update Device
