Columbus City Schools Page 2 of 8
3 Day One: Getting the Assignment, Choosing the Photos/Graphics, and Writing Captions Your editor has asked you to layout and design a single yearbook page for the Halloween Dance. You have all of the following items: information about the dance, pictures from the dance, and dance graphics that can be used on your page. Spend today looking over these items and decide which pictures and graphics you will use. Then, write a caption for each of the pictures you selected. (You may or may not need to write a caption for the graphics.) Write the caption beside the pictures/graphics you have chosen to use or type them into a document and print them out. (Note: You may make up names and situations for the people and activities pictured in the photos.) Information about the dance -Held on October 31, 2014 from 8-10pm at the school -Attended by students in grades DJ Dan played pop, R&B, and Halloween music -Decorations were Fall- and Halloween-themed -Students were allowed to come in Halloween costumes and prizes were given for best costumes -Chaperones were Mrs. Danek, Mr. James, and the administrators Pictures from the Dance Columbus City Schools Page 3 of 8

7 Day Two: Writing the Story Write the story for your yearbook page here or type it in a document on your computer and print it out. It should only be a paragraph long and really capture the dance for posterity. Remember that the pictures you chose yesterday only tell part of the story. Be sure you fill in the gaps using the information about the dance listed in day one s assignment. Columbus City Schools Page 7 of 8
8 Day Three: Page Layout and Design Using one of the methods listed below, design a one-page layout for a yearbook page about the Halloween Dance. Keep in mind the design principles you have learned about in class this year. Crop pictures as necessary. Attach a copy of your design to this page. -You may physically cut and paste the pictures, graphics, and copy (from captions and story) that you completed on days one and two into an original design on your own paper. Be sure to add title(s) to your page. -You may digitally copy and paste the pictures, graphics, and copy (from captions and story) from this document and your own digital documents into an original design on your own paper or on a digital page that you print out. Be sure to add title(s) to your page. Columbus City Schools Page 8 of 8
