3 Composite Decking Installation Guide Joists must be set to 300mm centres. If not boards may warp or move. Composite boards need to be supported across their length. Ends of deck boards must be supported and not have an overhang of more than 20mm. If not boards will move or be damaged. Butted boards must have an expansion gap between boards & be supported separate joists. At edges a gap must be left for expansion. If not boards may warp or crack under pressure.

4 Decking Installation Data Sheet Slip tests have been performed on the ridged side of the boards. The wood grain effect side is purely for decorative use. Do not use the wood grain effect side as a walking surface. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION: Select the location of your decking carefully having regard for privacy, sun, shade and wind. Consider the nature of exit and entry to the home. Keep the size of the deck in proportion to your home and garden. For all but a simple ground level decking property owners should satisfy themselves as to whether planning regulations apply. If you are unsure always contact your local planning office to discuss your intentions. Our honeycomb profile is suitable for light domestic walking surfaces. The solid profile is suitable for commercial ambulation. If you are unsure with which to use please call us for advice. DRAINAGE: When designing and building decking always plan to achieve a free draining structure. If the water collects in the chambers for a long period the boards may start cupping and structural damage may occur due to moisture absorption. To achieve rain water run off decking should be laid on a slight gradient of at least 1 in 80 in the direction of the long side of the boards. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: When handling and processing Everlast products always wear gloves, eye protection and work in a well ventilated area. Always wash your hands after handling Everlast products, especially before smoking or eating. Wear eye protection when pressure washing or scrubbing the decking. Keep children and animals away from the work area until the job has been completed and the tools have been stored in a safe place. When cutting, planing or sanding Everlast products, be aware that the creation of dust and noise will occur. We recommend that all operatives carrying out these tasks wear suitable P.P.E. including gloves, eye protection, dust masks and ear defenders. STORAGE: Everlast decking should be stored flat. Full details are available upon request. If stored outdoors the decking should be kept in a covered area to prevent exposure to direct sunlight and weathering. EXPANSION: Everlast decking boards will expand and contract at a rate of around 0.3% to 0.5% of the boards length. Expansion gaps are should be calculated based on this sum. For example, allow a 30mm gap when fitting boards short ends on / perpendicular to a solid structure i.e. a wall. For decks with a width of over 3.6m, leave expansion gaps at intervals every 1.8m or 2.2m. MINOR DAMAGE: As with any product that is meant for outdoor use, scratches and acts of nature will inevitably occur. If this does happen a high grain sandpaper can be used to remove the scratch with no detrimental effect to the longevity and performance of the decking. USE OF CONCEALED CLIPS: Everlast deck boards are designed for use with our Stainless Steel Concealed Clip & Screw and Joist fixing system. Screwing directly through the face of the product is not recommended as it can damage the structure of the boards. Any holes that need to be drilled for installation of clips on our joists must be pre drilled to a minimum of 90% screw width and at least 90% of the length of the screw prior to fixing. SUBFRAMES & JOISTS: Everlast decks should be fixed securely to either composite joists that are on a solid surface such as concrete, or for raised deck designs use of treated timber or steel subframes using specialised screws to suit the material of the support frame. Installation of joists should not be made directly on to grass or a uneven surface. Any holes that need to be drilled for installation must be pre drilled at 90% width of screw. MAINTENANCE: Regularly use a brush and hot soapy water to wash Everlast. For water stains or any marks caused birds, berries or leaves, use a soft cleaning detergent to wash off. For harder stains such as marks containing dyes that leave permanent stains, clean the surface using wire wool or sandpaper lightly to carefully remove. If using a power washer to clean your product, keep a distance of at least 30cm from the boards. Do not use solvent based materials on Everlast. Do not stain, oil or paint Everlast without guidance. Everlast s composite decking will fade due to sun bleaching within the first 2-3 months. There after it will remain stable. Our composite products are a recycled man-made product. There may be colour variations in different batches. Initial Installation Colour After 3 Months

Composite wood behaves differently to traditional timber, hence for different spacings that you may be used to. Lay your Joists 300mm centre to centre, running the opposite way to the direction of the Deck Boards. Make sure to leave a 30mm gap between your walls / fence to allow for expansion. 2. Pre-drill and screw the Joists to your concrete base. (If using Composite Joists pre-drill & over-drill holes to allow for expansion. Use of expansion screws are recommended). See Figure A. 3. Fix Starter Clips along the edge of each Joists at the end you wish to start laying boards from. Pre-drill the screw holes & screw in place. Push your first board into place, clipping into the Starter Clips. 5. Clip Concealed Fixing Clips into the first board along each of the Joists. Pre-drill and screw in place. See Figure C. Space between boards should be 5mm. 6. If joining 2 lengths of board together, make sure both ends are supported separate Joists. Leave a gap calculated on the expansion rate of 0.3% - 0.5% of the board length to allow for expansion. See Figure D. 7. Push the next board in place. Repeat until your deck is the required length.

Pre-drill the holes and screw Starter Clips in place. 9. Clip your last board into the previous board and push down into place using a rubber mallet if required. (See Figure F) Slide In Skirting & Trim (Decorative Use Only) Slot the Slide In Skirt along the long edge of exposed deck boards. Screw the Edging Trim into the joists of the long edge of exposed deck boards. Both trims for non walkway edges. For walkway edges use 90 Step Board Endcaps Push into exposed short ends of Honeycomb deck boards to finish. Overhang Overhang of boards from joist should not exceed 20mm. 20mm max. 20mm Finishing Trim For Non Step / Non Walking Edge Lay your final joist with a 20mm over hang to allow for expansion. Screw the 90 angle directly into the joist. If for a walkway or doorway, use an aluminium L shaped cover from your local DIY store to hide the gap.

8 Laying A Framed Deck & Steps LAYING THE JOISTS 1. Lay and secure your joists at the usual 300mm centres along the opposite way to the main deck board body. 500mm 2. At the corner, lay 2 shortened joists with a gap cut to a 45 angle. (See 2 on diagram) 3. Lay another joist 146mm alongside the lower most joist. This will support the framing board. (See 3 on diagram) 4 300mm 2 4. Lay another joist away from the last. This will support the edge of the main deck body. (See 4 on diagram) 5. Repeat on the remainder of the corners applicable. 146mm 3 All cut to 45 angles (Suitable for Solid decks) 5mm 5mm Expansion Gap LAYING THE DECK BOARDS Expansion Gap 1. Cut your Solid profile framing boards to Secure Starter/Finisher Clips at 300mm intervals along the lengths of the outside edge of the subframe. 3. Clip in your cut boards into the Starter Clips to make the frame. 4. Secure Starter/Finisher Clips to the two sides where the main body will have short sides against the frame. 5. Lay the main body of the deck as you would do usually. (We recommend frames to be made from Solid boards)

9 Installation Guide For Composite Decking Steps Option 1 Option 2 90 STEP BOARD 1. Use Starter/Finishing Clips to fit the step board. 2. Apply adhesive to last board of deck along joists. Glue down to joists. 3. Leave expansion gaps as per previous drawing over sheet, calculated on the expansion rate of 0.3% to 0.5% of the board lengths. SOLID EDGED STEP 1. Use Starter Clips to fit the last board. 2. Trim off the groove along one side of a Solid board. 3. Line up to the top of the edge of the deck. 4. Pre drill and screw the board in to the joists, adding glue to the top side for more security. Side View Other Options Concealed Clip Starter Clip Starter Clip WITHOUT RISERS 300mm Using treated timber (with at least a 15yr guarantee) as a frame, you can construct a base with a maximum of 300mm between the running joists. Securely anchor the frame to your solid groundwork to ensure maximum stability. Everlast installation leaflets are designed as a quick and simple guide. They may not cover every installation scenario envisaged. Since each installation is unique; the installation method used and/or the actual installation and its actual performance are the sole responsibility of the installer. Everlast recommends that all designs be reviewed a licensed architect, or engineer before installation. Please ensure your plan and/or design meets building regulations and permission before you begin installation.

Composite newell posts must be lined with supporting treated timber. Not doing so will cause movement and will potentially be unsafe. Always pre-drill composite wood products. If you don t you risk damaging the product over time. Make sure to use mechanical supports (not provided) to support the bottom handrail of the balustrade. An offcut of a spindle can be used.

11 Fixing Posts Option I Remember: Leave 3mm gaps around the inside post wall to allow for timber expansion FIXING TO GROUND USING AN ERECTA PLATE 1. Bolt erecta plates into your solid base. 2. Insert timber posts into the erecta plates and secure in place. 3. Slide your Newell Posts over the timber post. 4. Ensuring to leave enough inside gap for expansion. See above. Option 2 Remember: Leave 3mm gaps around the inside post wall to allow for timber expansion FIXING TO GROUND USING CONCRETE 1. Dig holes suitable for your timber posts. 2. Bury the timber post and concrete it into the ground. 3. Once the concrete is set slide your Newell Post over the timber. Pre-drill the holes to at least 90% screw to secure. 4. Ensuring to leave enough inside gap for expansion. See above. Option 3 Remember: Leave 3mm gaps around the inside post wall to allow for timber expansion FIXING TO TIMBER SUBFRAME For advice, please contact a structural engineer if your proposed area is above ground floor level. 1. Cut your timber and newell posts to wanted height. 2. Cut crossbearers out of timber to hold timber post in place. 3. Bolt timber crossbearers and posts together making sure everything is safe and secure.

12 IMPORTANT: Leave gaps around newell posts for decking & post expansion. Top Handrail 1. Slot a Post Skirt on to disguise the gaps. 900mm Bottom Handrail Solid Deck Boards Line Newell Post with timber insert 900mm 2. Cut your handrails to the correct length (max 900mm). 3. Mark centre points of each of the Spindles location on the top & bottom handrails. Pre-drill the holes to at least 90% of the hole required. We recommend spindles to be spaced at 100mm centres. Please Note: Both the top and bottom handrail should be installed with the inner groove facing down. Remember to Pre Drill Top Handrail Remember to Pre Drill Bottom Handrail 100mm /----/ 4. Screw the U Shaped Connectors into the pre marked rails using the screws provided. 900mm / / 5. Push the Spindles into the U Shaped Connectors. Ensure the spindles are straight.
