Course Goals To provide a deep and wide undersatnding of the forces and causes which formed modern history. Course Grading Method Final course exam and full attendance. Reading List October 2014 The Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy and Strategy Modern History, Nationalism and the Growth of Zionism Dr. Jonathan Fine Introduction Academic proficiency in Government Diplomacy and Strategy studies requires a background in modern political social and economic history. The major aim of this course is to provide you with a wide historic perspective, analyzing major historical events and turning points which have shaped the modern era, beginning with the discovery of the new world and the era of revolutions, up to World War Two. Special attention will be devoted to the, the age of enlightenment, American, French, and industrial revolutions, the rise of modern nationalism, Zionism, World War One, the interwar period, and World War Two. Course Requirements Besides full attendance (!) and reading assignments, all students must take a final exam.
