1 Sandon Business and Enterprise College Environmental Policy The world is so empty if one thinks only of mountains, rivers and cities, but to know someone here and there who thinks and feels with us, and who, though distant, is close to us in spirit, this makes the earth for us an inhabited garden. 2 Sandon Business and Enterprise College Environmental Policy The Environmental policy of the school aims to:- Give a high profile to environmental issues Develop a responsible attitude towards environmental concerns and encourages pupils to become environmentally aware so that their own actions will help to build a balanced environment. Create an pleasant, working, teaching and learning environment for staff and pupils To provide a nurturing environment where students will develop to their fullest academic, social, emotional, spiritual and physical potential Strive towards the conservation of energy and precious natural resources Provide an unbiased view of environmental issues Have a fully integrated cross-curricular approach to Environmental Education Use the philosophy of the school to teach environmental issues in addition to the curriculum Make full use of the school grounds as an educational resource Continue to work closely with outside agencies on the environment Above all prepare students for the local, national and global community. European Eco Schools Status European Eco School status was achieved by Sandon Business and Enterprise College for three consecutive times: 1998, 2001, 2003 and in 2005 the school was awarded Permanent European Eco School Status. European Eco School status was awarded for the fifth time in April One of only a handful of High Schools in the country to do so.

3 Sustainable Schools The aims of Sustainable Schools 1. To empower students to lead sustainable lives, teaching them the skills and behaviours they need to challenge the demand on resources, water and climate change. 2. To ensure their quality of life for the future. 3. To help students to improve communities and the environment in which families and students live. 4. It is integral to community cohesion. Sustainable Schools is a tool to promote an ethos for life where students to care for themselves, for one another and for the community. There are 8 gateways to Sustainable Schools.

The experience benefits Sandon Business and Enterprise College, by giving pupils the opportunity to be actively involved in making decisions on school policy. It raises pupil awareness of Environmental Issues. It raises the status of Environmental Education. It is directly responsible for improvements in the school grounds and local community.
