1 Six Easy Ways to Increase Your Energy and be More Vibrant By Trish Watson

2 Manage Cortisol: Eat something small within 30 minutes of getting up. After going all night without eating or drinking, the stress hormone Cortisol is highest when we wake up. Cortisol is known for putting weight around our mid- section and can cause anxiety. However, beware of supplements that block Cortisol; this can be very damaging to hormonal balance. The body makes Cortisol for reasons that are useful and necessary. So the best way to manage Cortisol is to eat something small, preferably protein; four or five bites of leftovers from the night before will do, just something small to bring this stress hormone down. Drink a glass or two of water to rehydrate the brain. Coffee, tea or caffeinated drinks increase Cortisol due to caffeine stressing the adrenal glands, liver and pancreas. Artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame can also effect energy and increase weight gain. Watch for artificial sweeteners, in breakfast cereals, yogurt, basically anything that says sugar free. Xylitol and Stevia are not artificial. Xylitol comes from birch bark or sometimes corn; it has the great benefit of fighting tooth decay. Stevia comes from a plant; both have less than half the calories of sugar and are safe for diabetics. Blood sugar: Eat three meals and two snacks. A blood sugar roller coaster can leave you feeling tired, foggy headed, moody, irritable and with very low energy, some people call it the blahs. Eating regularly keeps your blood sugar balanced, which keeps your energy on a level playing field. Make lunch your biggest meal and dinner your smallest. Eating a small snack before bed can be helpful with staying asleep. Adrenals: Support your adrenal glands with a 1000 mg. of vitamin C and a good adrenal support supplement. I m not partial to adrenal supplements containing glandulars (small amounts of bovine glands). I have a good adrenal support that seems to work well for 98% of clients I ve worked with (ask me more about adrenal support). Be careful of supplements that are sold at Big Box stores that contain dyes, additives and are chemically derived. What is more important is adding a good food based multi vitamin without iron or copper that is supportive to the whole body which aids with energy.

3 Stress: Stress is an energy thief plus it can destroy your health. Learn how to manage stress so it doesn t dominate you. The most effective forms of stress management are resolution, meditation, prayer, exercise, deep breathing, dancing, or what each person finds is helpful for de- compressing. Don t fall in to the trap of using food or alcohol. Alcohol is a depressant and it interferes with sleep. Drinking even one drink a day can increase the chances of depression. If you use food you will quickly gain weight and become depressed because you re overweight. Instead come home and meditate for 15 minutes, walk for another 15 minutes. After 30 minutes total of these two strategies you will feel more relaxed, more likely not to over eat and have a clearer picture of how to handle what s bothering you. Of course, one of the best most effective ways of managing stress is exercising. Just 30 minutes a day is an efficient way to reap several benefits immediately. Some of these benefits are: Strengthening your physical body Raising brain function by stimulating brain chemistry Having an outlet and release of physical and mental stress Suppressing appetite Weight control Anti- aging benefits Helps with anxiety, which can be caused by unreleased or unresolved stress More energy Better health Additional health benefits as the result of regular exercise are; lower blood pressure, lower cholesterol, lowering the risk of diabetes, diminished depression, improved sleep, increased self- esteem and overall life management enhancement. Many people say, I hate exercising, I m not motivated or I don t have time. My answer: DO IT ANYWAY! The alternative of not exercising will not create a healthy life. It s believed that 99% of all illness and disease is stress related! So be the master of stress not its servant.

4 Hydration: When I start feeling tired I get up, walk around, drink a glass or two of water (hydration is key to energy). Drinking water can also remove toxins, clears many bodily systems, and can suppress your appetite. Many times hunger between meals and snacks is a sign of dehydration. The quality of water you drink is important, try to drink purified or filtered water whenever possible. Mental Attitude: Many times our mental criticisms of how to refine ourselves or others is defeating, it robs us of energy and the negative thoughts cause the brain to release negative chemicals. Pessimistic negative people rarely are high energy, joyful or fun to be around. So stay positive! You are in charge of your mind and the energy you create. If you don t like something you re thinking about, change it to something you do like thinking about. Have fall back thoughts, such as a memory of a beautiful place, a friend that makes you laugh, something you re looking forward to, or visualize something positive you want in your life. Think about what you do want, not what you don t want. If negativity creeps in simply direct your mind back to what is pleasing. It s not easy, but becomes easy when done with practice.
